FASTag users alert! You may risk blacklisting over this common mistake

The
National Highways Authority of India
has tightened its policy against the misuse of FASTags, specifically targeting what are known as "loose FASTags" or "tag-in-hand" practices. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways confirmed the update in an official release, ANI reported.
The new directive instructs toll collecting agencies and concessionaires to immediately report instances where FASTags are not affixed to a vehicle's windscreen. This is a deliberate act by some users that disrupts the automated
toll collection system
. NHAI has also provided a dedicated email ID for reporting such violations, enabling swift action including blacklisting or hotlisting of the reported FASTags.
The initiative comes as NHAI prepares to roll out major advancements in tolling infrastructure, including the FASTag-based
Annual Pass System
and Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling. Ensuring the proper placement and use of FASTags is seen as essential to maintaining system reliability and tolling efficiency under these upcoming frameworks.
Loose FASTags present several operational challenges. They cause lane-level congestion, trigger incorrect chargebacks, and are often misused in closed-loop systems, ultimately resulting in delays and inconvenience for other highway users.
To curb this growing issue, NHAI has asked toll operators to act promptly. Upon receiving a report, the agency will initiate the blacklisting process to prevent further misuse of the concerned FASTag.
Earlier in June,
Union Road Transport
and Highways Minister
Nitin Gadkari
announced that a FASTag-based Annual Pass priced at Rs 3,000 will be introduced on Independence Day. Valid for a year or up to 200 trips, the pass is expected to further simplify highway travel.

EaseMyTrip co-founder shares update on Bengaluru traffic project to ease jams

Prashant Pitti, co-founder of EaseMyTrip, who earlier pledged Rs 1 crore to help fix Bengaluru's traffic woes, has shared a major update on the a post on July 24, Pitti said he is confident of improving Bengaluru traffic by 25–30% within a year using artificial intelligence, Google Maps data, satellite imagery, and large-scale collaboration with public and private this month, Pitti announced the initiative on X, calling it the 'Bangalore Traffic Project.' Within just ten days, he met senior officials from Bengaluru Traffic Police, BBMP, City Police, the Google team, professors from IISc, scientists, road engineers, and entrepreneurs working on traffic solutions. 'All three newly appointed commissioners were very kind to invite me to showcase existing capabilities and collaborate to work together. For the first time we are bringing all key public and private players - to the same table,' Pitti said in his the first set of projects underway are traffic simulation models that can process millions of re-routing options based on real-time data from platforms like Uber, Ola, Rapido, and Google. Some of these companies have already agreed to share their data. The goal is to predict gridlocks before they happen and take corrective steps in advance to avoid traffic component is upgrading the existing government app used to report potholes.'I will take ownership of that app, to increase its scope (report illegal parking, broken signal, wrong side driving, water logging, broken vehicle, etc). I will also increase accountability and recognition by showcasing all the complaints lodged AND action-taken (along with time-stamp) publicly,' he added. Pitti is also working on a hyperlocal rain prediction system to help authorities plan road maintenance more efficiently. 'The government starts infrastructure work, and then it rains on that stretch, halting everything,' he explained. This new tool could also assist in fixing drainage issues before they escalate.A pilot project is already testing "Green Wave Signals"—a system to sync traffic lights so that vehicles can move in waves instead of stopping at every junction. If the pilot succeeds, the concept may be rolled out to those who argue that Bengaluru's traffic issues stem from infrastructure problems, Pitti said, 'If we keep waiting for better infra, we'll always be catching up with the West. There's plenty we can do to optimise what already exists.'He concluded with a call to action, asking citizens to join a WhatsApp community where they can report major traffic trouble spots. 'The more support we get, the more people and institutions we can bring in. I'm in it for the long haul. Are you?'- EndsMust Watch

The findings of this research have been published in the prestigious journal, Environment, Development and Sustainability (Springer Nature), in a paper co-authored by Prof. Poonam Kumari, along with her research scholars Abir Saha and Nikhil Dilip Kulkarni from IIT Guwahati . IIT Guwahati researchers tested four bamboo-based composite formulations consisting of Bambusa tulda fibers reinforced with bio-based or petroleum-based epoxies. By treating the bamboo fibers with alkali, the team improved its compatibility with the base polymer resulting in enhanced durability for real-world use. The developed formulations were then evaluated on 17 different parameters to test their tensile strength, thermal resistance, impact durability, water absorption and cost per kilogram, among others. While these formulations had distinct strength, none of them had all the properties to provide a balanced and high performing option. To identify the same, the team used Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM), a structured evaluation method. The results observed bamboo composite made with bio-based epoxy FormuLite as the best performing option with low moisture absorption, significant thermal stability, and mechanical strength. The cost-effective nature of the composite, priced at Rs. 4300 per kilogram, makes it an eco-friendly solution for automotive parts, such as, vehicle dashboards, door panels and seat backs, among others. Dr. Poonam Kumari said, 'Developed composite can be used for designing components/parts in consumer electronics, automobiles, aerospace, sustainable building materials etc. The product will replace wood/iron/plastic components and will have similar cost and lead to fulfil SGD goals (7,8 and 9). This development is in line with Make in India policy under Green Tech Revolution .' The team is currently conducting a full life cycle assessment of the developed composite to measure its environmental impact from production to disposal. As the next step, the research team is planning to apply industrial techniques such as compression modelling and resign transfer to scale up the production.
