Galaxy Unpacked 2025: Live updates as Samsung unveils new Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7

Engadget09-07-2025
The rumor I'm most interested in is the possible appearance of Samsung's tri-fold phone. Info about it has swirling around for a while, but it's been somewhat unclear if Samsung actually has plans to release it in the US. If we do see , I'm betting that it will be as a quick tease or a "one more thing" at the end of the presentation, similar to how they gave us a preview of the S25 Edge at the previous Unpacked event at the beginning of the year.
Do you all think maybe Samsung couldn't find any good catering because everyone is so busy shopping Amazon's Prime Day deals. Did you like how I casually referenced this massive shopping event in the middle of our liveblog? I just wanted to set the scene for those wondering what's going on outside of the Samsung world today and this week. (The Engadget homepage is a good indicator of what else is happening in the consumer tech world.)
Well hi there Sam! I too have a seat, but it's at my desk, at 6:45AM, in sunny Arizona. Looking forward to throwing the Galaxy Z Flip 6 I've used daily for the past year or so into that sun shortly.
Some rumors suggest that Samsung might be preparing to reveal a Galaxy S25 Fan Edition (FE), which would add yet another model to its S25 family. I'm not convinced we'll see that today, but if we did, that would be the fifth S25 phone to date. (Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge
Hey y'all, I'm at Unpacked and I finally grabbed a seat and figured out the Wi-FI situation (hint: it's not good). But I'm still hyped because as a foldable phone enthusiast, it feels like were primed for some big updates to Samsung's lineup.
I guess I could talk about tech and Samsung for a bit. Like we mentioned earlier, this is the third Unpacked this year, with the most recent one being a quick, short pre-recorded video detailing the super thin Galaxy S25 Edge that was first teased at Unpacked in January. In his review, Sam found it delivered more than just a slim frame — it was a compelling alternative to the S25 Plus.
Sam told me there are no snacks at the Brooklyn event, just drinks. I am left with no choice but to go ask Mat about snacks. I know this is the dedicated journalism you are all here for.

By the looks of the picture Mat shared below, it's looking like a stellar spot for an event! I've also heard Sam is in line at the main Unpacked venue in New York and waiting to get in. Don't worry, I will request pictures of snacks.
As it usually does, Samsung is also hosting satellite Unpacked events around the world, including one in London, where our UK bureau chief Mat Smith may has joined us from. Hi Mat!

Hi from the London satellite event. Samsung has wall-to-wall screens here. Picture to follow!
While we think we know all that Samsung has up its sleeve today, I can't help wondering if it might surprise us with something unexpected. There was a lot of talk a few weeks ago about a possible Galaxy Z Fold Ultra, possibly because of the company's use of the words "the next chapter of Ultra" in its teaser blog post in June.
Sam Rutherford might also drop in today to share pictures from the event in Brooklyn, and he's a dedicated foldable fan and to my knowledge currently uses the Pixel 9 Pro Fold as his primary device!
The other one of us just really likes using the Z Flip's external display and camera as a self-standing selfie camera.
Nobody asked but in case you were wondering, one of the two of us writing on this liveblog today use a flip-style foldable as their main phone every day.
I said this in the introduction of this post, but a massive last-minute leak yesterday pretty much told us everything we should expect to see today. Foldables! Thin foldables!
Hello! Welcome to our liveblog of yet another Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event. Today's presentation is scheduled to kick off at 10AM ET today, and you can watch the livestream via the video embedded above. If you prefer to follow along via words, you've come to the right place. I'll be joined by our editor in chief Aaron Souppouris today to keep you updated on all the news out of Unpacked today. We're so glad you're here with us!

Ford CEO Found Young People Didn't Want to Work There Because $17 Wages Left Them 'So Stressed' - Then He Made An Expensive Change 'The Country Needs'

Turns out, a $17-an-hour paycheck doesn't go as far as it used to—especially if you're young, exhausted, and juggling two jobs just to survive. Ford (NYSE:F) CEO Jim Farley heard this loud and clear from his own factory floors. And instead of shrugging it off or blaming "kids these days," he made a move that echoed the bold playbook of Henry Ford himself—one that he says America desperately needs more of. In a June interview at the Aspen Ideas Festival with Walter Isaacson—the renowned biographer best known for his books on Steve Jobs, Leonardo da Vinci, and Elon Musk—Farley peeled back the curtain on what younger workers were really telling him about life on a $17 wage. Don't Miss: 7,000+ investors have joined Timeplast's mission to eliminate microplastics—now it's your turn to $100k+ in investable assets? – no cost, no obligation. "The older workers who'd been at the company said, 'None of the young people want to work here. Jim, you pay $17 an hour, and they are so stressed,'" Farley recalled. "They've got to work at Amazon for eight hours, then they come over to Ford for seven hours, and then they sleep for three or four hours—and then they go back. And they're barely getting by." Rather than issue a tone-deaf memo or wait for another generation to settle for less, Farley made a decisive, expensive change: he converted every temporary worker into a full-time employee. "It wasn't easy to do," he admitted. "It was expensive. But I think that's the kind of changes we need to make in our country." Farley's move isn't just about better paychecks—it's about reviving an old-school idea that once turned Ford into a powerhouse: when you pay workers well, they can afford the products they help build. Trending: 'Scrolling To UBI' — Deloitte's #1 fastest-growing software company allows users to earn money on their phones. You can Quoting the legendary Henry Ford, Farley said, "'I'm doing this because I want my factory worker to buy my cars. If they make enough money, they'll buy my own product.'" Then he added, "It's a self-fulfilling prophecy, in a way." In 1914, Henry Ford famously raised factory wages to $5 a day—nearly double the going rate. It wasn't a random act of generosity. It was a smart bet that higher wages would lead to a more stable, productive workforce and—bonus—more people who could afford to drive off in a Model T. According to Farley, it worked then, and it can work now. He also pointed to deeper structural issues. For Farley, the wage issue is just one layer of a bigger challenge: the U.S. hasn't kept up in preparing young people for careers in skilled trades. "Our governments have to get really serious about investing in trade schools and skilled trades," Farley said. "You go to Germany—every one of our factory workers has an apprentice starting in junior high school. Every one of those jobs has a person behind it for eight years that is trained."Farley's big bet may not please Wall Street, but it's not aimed at them. "We decided as a company that a cooler problem than full autonomy in an urban setting was high-speed, eyes-off driving on highways—push a button, read a book," he told Isaacson, in reference to how Ford picks its battles. When it comes to labor, he's taking that same eyes-on-the-road approach—focusing on people, not just profits. And while turning temps into full-timers might not boost short-term stock prices, Farley's betting on a longer game: one where the people building America's cars can actually afford to drive them. No way! Amazon just slashed tons of Roku streaming devices to new lows in time for back to school

While most TVs these days are smart enough with loads of apps and services to dive into, they don't often have super simple and easy-to-navigate interfaces like Roku does. Plus, with the multitude of educational channels (that are totally free, by the way), Roku streaming devices make for the best back to school gear you can find. Right now, you can get the Roku Ultra for $79 on Amazon. That's a 21% slashing, knocking the price down by $20 on one of my favorite streaming devices. And if that wasn't enough, there are tons of assorted Roku streaming sticks slashed to new lows on Amazon right now. The Roku Ultra is a serious upgrade over your TV interface. It offers 4K visuals with the full suite of HDR certifications you'd want, including HDR10+, HDR10, and Dolby Vision. If you want some heightened audio support, the Ultra also has Dolby Atmos support, turning your home entertainment setup into the cinema you've dreamed of. Although many of the best TVs these days might have some of the most powerful operating systems, Roku is a world of wonder all its own. It's one of my personal favorite TV interfaces, offering tons of free channels and features that make it stand out amongst the crowd. The Roku Ultra is what I have in my bedroom. It's the perfect entertainment companion, allowing me to cast YouTube content or movies from my phone with ease. A neat feature I love on the Roku Ultra is Backdrops, a special screensaver function that lets you pick from tons of photos and art from around the world to liven up your TV screen. I tested the Roku Ultra last year when the new model debuted. It offers many of the same features as its predecessor, but the new Roku Voice Remote Pro makes ads tons of versatility. Now you can customize a button to your choosing (I have it set to YouTube) and the remote even has its own backlights, which is a neat addition that many rival remotes are sorely lacking. Of course, you'll have to contend with ads as Roku is no stranger to those in-your-face banners and videos on the home page, but it's not like other TV interfaces are any better. There's also 7 hidden Roku tips and tricks that can help you navigate the OS better and tailor the whole experience to your liking. But if the Roku Ultra isn't quite your thing, there are several alternatives on sale across Amazon right now. The Roku Streaming Stick HD is $19 on Amazon right now and the Streaming Stick Plus is available for $29. Both launched in 2025, making these some of the first deals on our favorite new streaming sticks.
