Khaleej Times27-03-2025

Fans eager to step back into the dark, monster-infested world of The Witcher will have to wait much longer than expected. According to reports, CD Projekt has officially confirmed that The Witcher 4 won't be released before the end of 2026, meaning the highly anticipated sequel is now looking at a potential 2027 (or later) launch.
The news came during an investor meeting, where CD Projekt's CFO Piotr Nielubowicz reaffirmed the company's financial goals but ruled out a pre-2027 release for the next Witcher entry.
First announced at The Game Awards 2024, The Witcher 4 will mark the beginning of a new trilogy, placing Ciri in the lead role. The reveal trailer teased a darker, more grounded world, with game director Sebastian Kalemba confirming the game will explore Ciri's journey to becoming a full-fledged witcher.
Beyond The Witcher 4, CD Projekt is also developing a remake of the original 2007 game and a multiplayer-focused spin-off codenamed Sirius, helmed by The Molasses Flood studio in Boston.
Interestingly, rumours suggest Microsoft is targeting 2027 for the release of its next-gen Xbox, which means The Witcher 4 could launch alongside an entirely new console generation. With such a long wait ahead, fans can only hope CD Projekt delivers an experience worthy of its legacy when the game finally arrives.

OpenAI faces copyright lawsuit from Bollywood music labels

Dubai: A group of leading Bollywood music labels, including T-Series, Saregama, and Sony, have sought to join a copyright lawsuit against OpenAI in New Delhi, expressing concerns over the unauthorized use of their sound recordings for AI training, according to a recent Reuters report. The Indian Music Industry (IMI) group, alongside T-Series and Saregama, approached a New Delhi court on Thursday, claiming that OpenAI's alleged use of their copyrighted material violates intellectual property rights. The labels argue that the outcome of the case is significant not only for the Indian music industry but globally as well. Microsoft-backed OpenAI faces mounting legal challenges in India, its second-largest market by users. However, the company asserts that it adheres to fair-use principles when utilising publicly available data to develop its AI models. The lawsuit, initiated by the Indian music companies, aims to address what they describe as "unauthorised use of sound recordings" in training AI models, which they claim violates their copyrights. The labels argue that this issue is pivotal for the global music industry, with their filing emphasizing its importance. The music companies are seeking to join a lawsuit filed last year by Indian news agency ANI , accusing OpenAI's ChatGPT application of using its content without permission to train AI models. This case has sparked opposition from media groups and publishers, some backed by billionaires Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani. Bollywood and Hindi pop music are major industries in India. T-Series, one of the country's largest music labels, releases approximately 2,000 songs annually, while Saregama, over a century old, owns iconic Indian music collections featuring legendary singers like Mohammed Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar. The IMI group also represents international names such as Sony Music and Warner Music. The Indian music labels are concerned that OpenAI and other AI systems could extract lyrics, compositions, and sound recordings from the internet without permission, according to an industry source who spoke anonymously due to the ongoing legal matter. This legal action follows a similar case in Germany, where GEMA, representing composers and lyricists, sued OpenAI in November for allegedly reproducing song lyrics without a license. OpenAI has opposed the ANI lawsuit, arguing that Indian courts lack jurisdiction as the company is based in the US, with servers overseas. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for February 21. Meanwhile, OpenAI chief Sam Altman visited India last week to meet with the country's infotech minister and discuss plans for developing affordable AI technologies.
