CM Chandrababu launches 'Stree Shakti' scheme for women
During the bus ride, the Chief Minister engaged with female passengers, inquiring about their concerns and challenges. A formal launch event is planned at the Vijayawada City Bus Terminal, where Naidu will officially hoist the flag to mark the commencement of the free travel initiative. A large turnout is expected, with citizens and members of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) eager to witness the event.
The 'Stree Shakti' scheme enables women to travel without charge on five types of buses, including Palle Velugu and Ultra Palle Velugu buses, as well as city ordinary, express, and metro express buses. To avail of this benefit, women need to present a government-issued Aadhaar card, ration card, or voter ID to obtain a zero-fare ticket from the conductor.
It is anticipated that approximately 2.62 crore women will benefit from this initiative. Notably, the government has also decided to extend free bus travel to transgender individuals. The scheme is expected to impose an additional financial burden of Rs 1,942 crore annually on the state government, but CM Chandrababu remains committed to its successful implementation. Women across Andhra Pradesh have already begun voicing their issues and concerns to the Chief Minister and his administration.

Minister Dr G Parameshwara: Firms keen on Metro to Tumakuru
TUMAKURU: Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara here on Friday expressed confidence that the Metro Rail project from Bengaluru will be extended to Tumakuru as some companies have expressed interest to implement the project under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. 'The Metro Rail feasibility report was submitted to the government and it will be presented before the cabinet or technical committee. Some companies have come forward to implement the project and a special purpose vehicle (SPV) will be floated to run the project. The median running along the National Highway will be used, and for that permission from the Centre is required. If the sanction is not given, we will plan an alternative,' he said after taking part in the 78th Independence Day celebrations at the Mahatma Gandhi stadium here. Metro and suburban rails are two possible transport projects between Bengaluru and Tumakuru, Kolar, Mysuru, Kanakapura and Nelamangala. The cabinet approved an allocation of Rs 25 crore for a feasibility study. He said the work on the six-lane National Highway between Bengaluru and Tumakuru is in progress and it will be converted to ten lanes. The minister said CM Siddaramaiah, PWD minister Satish Jarkiholi and he met Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to discuss this project. Deputy Commissioner Subha Kalyan and Superintendent of Police Ashok KV have cleared some bottlenecks and the work will be completed by 2026, he said. He hoped that the construction of a new international cricket stadium near Tumakuru by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) will help prevent stampedes like the one at M Chinnaswamy stadium that claimed the lives of 11. The government has already handed over 41 acres to KSCA, but the project was delayed after the cricket association was busy battling issues related to the stampede, he said. KSCA has made a provision of Rs 160 crore for the stadium.

More trouble for NCP (SP) leader Eknath Khadse's son-in-law, Pune police book him for taking nude videos of woman
The Pune city police Friday booked Dr Pranjal Khewalkar, the son-in-law of former Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party (SP) leader Eknath Khadse, for allegedly taking nude videos and photographs of a woman in his cell phone without her consent. Khewalkar, the husband of Khadse's daughter Rohini Khadse, the NCP (SP)'s women's wing chief, has been in jail after he was arrested along with four men and two women following a raid on July 27 on a flat in the Kharadi area where the police claimed a 'rave party' was underway. A police press release on Friday said the woman filed a complaint with the cyber police station that Khewalkar, between 2022 and 2025, allegedly took her nude photographs and videos at different locations without her consent and with the purpose of misusing them in the future. The police lodged a fresh FIR against Khewalkar at the cyber police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 77 (voyeurism) and provisions of the Information Technology Act. During the alleged rave party, the police claimed to have recovered 2.7 grams of substance suspected to be cocaine, 70 grams of substance suspected to be marijuana and other items, including ten cell phones, two cars, a hookah pot, liquor and beer bottles, all worth Rs 41,35,400, from the spot. Th FIR in that case was lodged against the accused at the Kharadi police station under sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act (COTPA). Khewalkar's lawyer then alleged that the police planted the contraband seized in this case for 'political' reasons and that drugs were recovered from his possession. The police said analysis of Khewalkar's mobile phone and laptop revealed multiple videos of his alleged obscene and objectionable acts with women during and after the parties. Rupali Chakankar, the chairperson of Maharashtra Women's Commission, wrote a letter to the Pune police to investigate the matter thoroughly. Khadse accused the Pune police of defaming his family by leaking private photos through a conspiracy after arresting his son-in-law.

CHENNAI: Enforcement Directorate ( ) officials on Saturday launched fresh search operations at properties linked to state rural development minister I Periyasamy in Chennai and his hometown Dindigul. While the minister was in Dindigul, a five-member ED team reached his official residence around 7am, accompanied by two CRPF personnel for security. Though the ED has not disclosed the background of the searches, it may be noted that the Madras High Court recently overturned the order of the Dindigul trial court, which had acquitted the DMK leader and his family in the Rs 2.01 crore disproportionate assets case. The case relates to the alleged accumulation of assets worth Rs 2.01 crore between 2006 and 2010, investigated by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC). A chargesheet was filed against Periyasamy, his wife Suseela, and sons Senthilkumar and Prabhu. Although the trial court acquitted all of them, Justice P Velmurugan of the Madras High Court in April set aside the order and directed a fresh trial.
