
Two more held in Kompally drug racket case in Hyderabad; arrest tally hits 10
The Eagle team also issued notices to seven pubs in relation to the case and started recording the statements of the pub operators.
According to Eagle SP Ch Roopesh, the newly arrested accused, Lochan and Sandeep, are residents of Hyderabad. They both are peddlers who were arrested three days ago, the SP said.
On the intervening night of July 7 and 8, the Eagle team arrested A Surya, the operator of a restaurant at Kompally, and seized 10 gm of cocaine, 3.2 gm of OG Kush ganja, and 1.6 gm of ecstasy.
Police named 25 accused in the case, including six Nigerians.

'We have initiated the process to issue look-out circulars against the Nigerians who are accused in the case. We have also issued notices to seven pubs whose names cropped up during the investigation. Our team has recorded statements from the pub managers. As part of the investigation, we are calling suspects whose names cropped up for drug consumption and subjecting them to tests. If they test positive, we are booking cases against them.
We are analysing technical data to identify more accused,' the SP said.
Among those who are arrested in the case are Rahul Teja, son of a senior intelligence officer, and P Mohan, son of a deputy commissioner of police (DCP) rank officer.

HYDERABAD: Following the confession of a drug peddler, EAGLE sleuths identified 100 consumers, including 32 medical students from a private college in Medchal. Drug tests were conducted, and nine students tested positive. Traced through UPI transactions On August 1, acting on a tip-off, the EAGLE team apprehended Arfath Ahmed Khan, a drug peddler with a three-year history of trafficking. He was caught with 2 kg of ganja worth around Rs 50,000. Police said the identities of the 100 consumers were traced through UPI transactions. All nine students who tested positive are hostel inmates. Counselling sessions were held in the presence of their parents and the college principal. They have been admitted to a de-addiction and rehabilitation centre. The EAGLE team said it would continue its crackdown on drug abuse and announced that drug tests would be conducted regularly across educational institutions in the state. College heads have been instructed to prevent any illegal activity on campus.

25,807 cases registered under ‘Operation Safe Campus Zone' in A.P.
The Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE), in association with the law and order police of various districts, conducted raids on shops near educational institutions under 'Operation Safe Campus Zone' and booked 25,807 cases. As part of the State-wide drive, the EAGLE and police teams conducted raids on 16,806 establishments in the last month to check for the sale of narcotic drugs, ganja, cigarettes, tobacco and gutkha products near educational institutions. In total, ₹40,62,092 lakh was imposed as fine on those who violate the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003, said Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta, in a release, on Thursday. The 'Operation Safe Campus Zone' aims at preventing the sale of cigarettes and illicit drugs within 100 yards of educational institutions, as per the Tobacco Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) guidelines, the DGP said. Based on the intelligence inputs, the police will keep a strict vigil on the hotspots and conduct raids on the shops located near the schools and colleges across the State. 'The raids will continue to maintain drug-free zones around educational institutions and protect the youth from drugs,' the DGP said.

Police target drug sales near schools in state-wide crackdown
Vijayawada: Director general of police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta on Thursday said the police department booked a total of 25,807 cases and imposed a fine of Rs 40.62 lakh during the five-day (July 8-12) anti-drug checks conducted under the 'Safe Campus Zone' initiative. This drive aimed to eradicate illicit drug sales within 100 yards of educational institutions, following the TOFEI Guidelines framework in the state. The DGP stated that the five-day state-wide operation was conducted across all 26 district police units against the illegal sale of narcotic drugs, including ganja, NRX drugs, cough syrups, cigarettes, tobacco products, and gutka being sold near or within 100 yards of educational institution premises. The state-wide crackdown was executed by SPs/CPs of all 26 district police units under the strategic direction and coordination of EAGLE IG Ake Ravi Krishna. The DGP further said the police department verified a total of 16,806 establishments during the continuous five-day raids. This involved multi-agency coordination with the district intelligence wing and special branch, maintaining a surprise element through operational secrecy, and ensuring legal compliance under the NDPS Act 1985, BNSS 2023, and BSA 2023. "Operation 'Safe Campus Zone' successfully achieved its primary objective of disrupting drug sales near educational institutions. The substantial number of cases registered and fines imposed demonstrate the operation's effectiveness in creating a strong deterrent presence. The comprehensive state-wide coverage and systematic approach have laid the foundation for sustained anti-drug enforcement around educational premises," the DGP stated. The ongoing anti-drugs drive will continue with surprise operations at identified hotspots in coordination with educational institutions, Gupta added.
