Meghan Markle says ‘a lie can't live forever' in new podcast episode

Yahoo5 hours ago

(NewsNation) — Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, has revealed how she would rewrite her public narrative if given the chance on the latest episode of Emma Grede's podcast.
The 43-year-old appeared in Tuesday's episode of 'Aspire with Emma Grede.' In the 90-minute episode, Grede asked Meghan about the public's perception of her and what she would change if she had the chance.
'I would ask people to tell the truth,' Meghan revealed. 'A lie can't live forever. Eight years is a long time, but it's not forever.'

Meghan was in the spotlight before she started dating Prince Harry in 2016 as one of the lead actresses on USA Network's 'Suits.' Meghan married Harry in 2018 and performed her royal duties until the couple stepped back in 2020 and moved to the United States.
Since they stepped back, both Harry and Meghan have talked about the mistreatment they received while doing their royal duties and how the palace didn't protect them. In 2021, the couple shared their story in a CBS interview. They also revealed a lot more in their 2022 docuseries 'Harry & Meghan' on Netflix.
Meghan also spoke with Grede about a video she recently posted on Instagram that has gone viral. The 'baby mama dance' video was a throwback that she posted for her daughter, Princess Lilibet's, birthday.
Grede told Meghan that she did a 'little secret cheer' when she saw the video that Meghan had filmed in the delivery room before Lilibet was born.
Meghan explained that the clip 'was four years ago.' She also told Grede, 'So it's also a really great reminder that with all the noise or whatever people do, there's still a whole life — a real, authentic, fun life — that's happening behind the scenes.'
She also said, 'I'm just grateful that now, being back on social as well, I have a place where I can share it on my own terms.' Meghan rejoined Instagram back in January after years of being off social media completely.
'I'm just grateful that now, being back on social as well, I have a place where I can share it on my own terms,' she added, referring to her personal social media handle.
On the podcast, Meghan said she and Harry have been working with Netflix for five years. Netflix also fully produced Meghan's 'As Ever' product line. Her show, 'With Love, Meghan,' had dropped off the streaming service's top ten list in less than a week. Netflix also fully produced Meghan's 'As Ever' product line.

NewsNation's Paula Froelich reported that Meghan's Netflix show will still be given a third season, regardless of viewership, because the streaming giant is invested in making her products and show a success.
Froelich heard that many people are 'done' with the Sussex family at Netflix, but the third season will be used to see if commerce and entertainment can be combined for profit.

Jeff Bezos-Lauren Sanchez wedding protested by Venice locals

(NewsNation) — While Amazon boss Jeff Bezos may be hearing wedding bells at the end of June, the world's third-richest man might also have to endure protests from Venetians. Bezos is set to marry Lauren Sanchez later this month at an undisclosed location in the city of Venice, Italy. Protesters in the city have joined the chorus of millions across cities in Europe, pushing back on tourists who they say displace residents and damage their homes. The organized group protesting the wedding is called 'No Space for Bezos,' and they're seeking to send a message not only to the tech giant but to the rest of the world. Protester Federica Toninello told reporters that the group wants to 'spark a citywide conversation and to say that people like Bezos — who represent a future we don't want and a world we don't want to live in — are not welcome here.' On Thursday, the group unfurled a large banner from St. Mark's bell tower, which had Bezos' name crossed out on it. While details about the wedding's location and time aren't public knowledge, the group feels they're gaining appropriate intelligence and will be able to protest at the wedding on the day of the ceremony. While many of Venice's 50,000 full-time residents have filled the streets of the city, they are not supported by Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro. Brugnaro is rolling out the red carpet for Bezos, calling him 'such an important person' and celebrating the nuptials in the city. Lilo & Stitch actor dies weeks after new film's release 'I don't know if I have time, or if [Bezos] will, to meet and shake hands, but it's an honor that they chose Venice. Venice once again reveals itself to be a global stage,' Brugnaro reportedly said. The actual location of the ceremony is kept private, as is the guest list. However, the list is expected to include musical artist Katy Perry, who joined Sanchez on the Blue Origin space flight in April. NewsNation's Paula Froelich reported that she's expected to be joined by Orlando Bloom amid past rumors of a breakup between the two. Other superstars expected to be in attendance include Kris and Kim Kardashian, Gayle King and Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump. Froelich expects the 'intimate' wedding to cost up to $11 million. The festivities, which are set to begin on June 24, are also expected to be a celebration of the city of Venice, with an estimated 80% of the wedding provisions sourced from local Venetian vendors. Doug Ford blasts Netflix doc on late brother Rob Ford: 'Let him rest in peace'

TORONTO — Ontario Premier Doug Ford says a new Netflix documentary about his late brother Rob Ford is "disgusting." The doc titled 'Trainwreck: Mayor of Mayhem" chronicles Rob Ford's rise to power as Toronto mayor in 2010 and his chaotic time in office. Speaking at a news conference in Toronto, Doug Ford said he wasn't going to watch the film, and he doesn't see eye-to-eye with the creators. Ford said he spoke to one person who saw the doc and that it "absolutely infuriates" him. The film's director Shianne Brown told The Canadian Press last week that she had asked Doug Ford to participate in the film but he 'kindly declined.' It includes archival footage and interviews with journalists and insiders from Rob Ford's circle to trace the populist wave that swept him into office in 2010 and his struggles with addiction while in the spotlight. "It's just disgusting. Leave the guy alone, let him rest in peace. Let his family rest in peace," Doug Ford said Tuesday when asked about the documentary, which debuted that day. Rob Ford died of cancer in 2016 at age 46. He served as mayor until 2014. This report by The Canadian Press was first published June 17, 2025. Alex Nino Gheciu, The Canadian Press

Tyler Perry Hit With Sexual Assault Lawsuit Amid Trending 'Straw' Movie

Tyler Perry is in the news again, this time for a scandalous reason! The famous movie producer, who is being talked about for his latest Netflix movie "Straw," has now been sued for sexual assault by a cast member in his hit show "The Oval." Tyler Perry's accuser, Derek Dixon, claimed the assault began in 2020 after the filmmaker approached him to offer him a role in one or more of his productions. Dixon claimed that after Perry took his number and promised to get in touch in 2019, he then offered him a two-episode role in a show titled "Ruthless." Afterward, the producer reportedly invited him to his home in 2020, with the hope that a friendship between them would lead to more acting roles, so he accepted the offer. While there, Dixon recalled passing the night in the guest room as he was too intoxicated. As the night went on, Perry reportedly got into bed with him and started rubbing his thighs; although he rejected his advances, Perry remained committed to winning him over. After that episode, Dixon landed a significant role as Dale in "The Oval," and then his alleged nightmare started with the sexually suggested texts from Perry getting intense. Perry also informed him that he bears a sexual preference for men. Dixon also drew similarities between his on-screen role and the type of men Perry reportedly preferred - loyal and dependent on him. He described Dale in the show as gay, homeless, and desperate, who had to offer sex in return for assistance or favors. As confirmed by TMZ, Dixon reportedly told Perry off quietly, fearing that doing so with firmness might affect his growing acting career and damage his standing with the producer. Dixon disclosed revisiting Perry in 2020 in Atlanta. What reportedly began as a warm exchange turned into sexual charges as Perry reportedly grabbed the actor's throat and said suggestive words. The lawsuit also carried evidence of text messages exchanged between Perry and Dixon where he reportedly said, "No straight man would be going on walks with you or cooking dinner for you unless they wanted to f-ck you. I would f-ck you." He added that another scary incident happened in 2021 at Perry's Atlanta home, where he was staying. He recalled wearing nothing but underwear and the producer undressing him after he came in to hug him goodbye. After these series of alleged encounters, Dixon claimed he forwarded a complaint to the Equal Employment and Opportunity Commission in June 2024. He even quit "The Oval" based on finding the constant sexual harassment unbearable. He is now suing the producer and his firm, Tyler Perry Studios, for quid pro quo, workplace sexual harassment, sexual assault, and battery. Dixon also wants $260 million in damages. Dixon's accusations come right on the heels of the actor's blazing-hot success with his latest movie, which was dropped on Netflix. Titled "Straw," the film features Taraji P. Henson as the lead actor playing the role of Janiyah Wiltkinson. Since its release on Netflix, "Straw" has sparked numerous conversations centered around the filmmaker's talent. While some view the story as his best one yet, others think it reinforces the narrative of him portraying a Black woman who cannot get her life together in yet another of his movies. The stats for the movie are living up to the hype as well. In the week of June 2 to June 8, "Straw" reportedly gathered over 45 million hours of viewing from subscribers on Netflix in just two days following its release on June 6. Data on Netflix also shows that the movie was in the top 10 in 81 countries worldwide. It topped the charts in countries such as the United States, Venezuela, Bolivia, El Salvador, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, and Panama, among others. As 2024 rounded up, Perry's home was targeted by masked intruders who attempted to break into his sanctuary and part with his valuables. The Blast shared that law enforcement officers identified four mask-wearing raiders who wanted to infiltrate the building. Thanks to the producer's sophisticated security system, the invaders were immediately captured with the home's thermal imaging camera, which alerted the security guards on the property, forcing the invaders to leave. Items recovered from the scene revealed that the invaders came with tools, including crowbars, bolt cutters, screwdrivers, gloves, a hat, and a saw. Authorities also discovered a cell phone alongside these sharp objects. By the time the building's security personnel called the Los Angeles Police Department to report the incident, the suspects had fled, resulting in zero arrests and only reports for attempted burglary and investigation. The producer lent his voice to advocate for better treatment of victims of the Los Angeles wildfires as they dealt with the aftermath of the damage. Perry reacted to the decision of the insurance companies to cancel policies for homeowners in Los Angeles before the wildfires. "Watching a daughter use a garden hose to try to protect her 90-year-old parents' home because their insurance was canceled was just gut-wrenching to me," wrote the actor on his Instagram story. He wondered why the insurance companies would decide to leave the homeowners without a safety net, especially after they had paid premiums all their lives. "Does anyone else find it appalling that insurance companies can take billions of dollars out of communities for years and then, all of a sudden, be allowed to cancel millions of policies for the very people they became rich on?" he stated further as he asked how he could offer comfort to the affected parties. Perry's questions also raised attention to the issue as his colleagues contributed to the discourse, wondering about the legal basis for such acts by these companies. Will Tyler Perry's new case go to trial, or is a settlement around the corner?
