Haryana Police book 10 social media operators in teacher's death case
Chandigarh: Haryana Police have served notice to 10 social media account operators for allegedly spreading false news on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook and YouTube in the death case of a playschool teacher. An official spokesperson said that the police have also registered FIRs against social media account operators for publishing inflammatory, false and misleading information on social media accounts. These social media accounts run reports and news without any official confirmation. The account operators are also facing criminal charges for publishing inflammatory posts, false news and misleading information without verification, uploading videos, and thereby disturbing law and order in the district, the spokesperson said. Opposition parties and social activists gathered at Bhiwani's Dhigawa village on Sunday, where family members of a 19-year-old play school teacher have been protesting. The family and villagers are demanding the arrest of those responsible for the "murder". Her family claimed that the police initially refused to lodge a missing persons complaint. However, a case was registered after her body was found. The teacher was found dead with her throat slit in the fields of Singhani village on August 13. The protesters blocked the Delhi-Pilani road, calling for justice for the victim. The blockade lasted for nearly two hours as police intervened to pacify the agitators, following which the blockade was lifted. The case took a U-turn after police said that a suicide note was recovered from the teacher's bag. According to the post-mortem report, no cut marks were found on her throat, the police said. The police added that the autopsy report has denied sexual assault, and that samples have been taken for further forensic examination. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has transferred the Bhiwani SP and suspended five policemen over the handling of the case. However, opposition leaders allege that the measures are insufficient.

Brazil asks Meta to remove chatbots that engage in sexually explicit dialogue
Brazil's government has asked U.S. technology giant Meta to rid its platforms of chatbots that mimic children and can make sexually suggestive remarks, the attorney general's office (AGU) announced Monday. Users of Meta's platforms, which include Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, can create and customise such bots using the company's generative artificial intelligence, AI Studio. The AGU said in a statement that Meta must "immediately" remove "artificial intelligence robots that simulate profiles with childlike language and appearance and are allowed to engage in sexually explicit dialogue." It denounced the "proliferation" of such bots in what it called an "extrajudicial notice" sent to Meta last week, adding that they "promote the eroticization of children." The document cited several examples of sexually charged conversations with bots pretending to be minors. The AGU's request does not include sanctions, but the agency said it had reminded Meta that online platforms in Brazil must take down illicit content created by their users, even without a court order. It comes at a time of outrage in the South American nation over a case of alleged child sexual exploitation by Hytalo Santos, a well-known influencer who posted content on Instagram featuring partially naked minors. Santos was arrested last week as part of an investigation into "exposure with sexual connotations" to adolescents, and his Instagram account is no longer available. In June, Brazil's Supreme Court voted to require tech companies to assume greater responsibility for user-generated content.

Delhi HC slaps Rs 10 lakh fine on RWA for filing petition to extort money
New Delhi [India], August 19 (ANI): The Delhi High Court has imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on the Azad Market Resident Welfare Association (RWA), through its General Secretary Anil Lodhi, after finding that petitions were being filed to extort money. Justice Mini Pushkarna, in an order dated August 7, directed the amount to be paid within 6 weeks, and expressed 'alarm and shock" at the conduct of the petitioner. 'Cost of Rs. 10 lakh is imposed upon the petitioner, Azad Market RWA (Regd.), through its General Secretary Mr Anil Lodhi, to be paid within a period of six weeks, from today," Justice Mini Pushkarna observed. The court also referred the matter to the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) for an inquiry regarding advocate Babu Lal Gupta. The HC noted that all the petitions filed by Lodhi were with the help of Gupta. Gupta made the petitioner a trustee in an NGO. The court also recorded that one of the respondents, Mamta Yadav, was contacted to extort money. The High Court also noted that the said persons are involved in filing petitions that are in relation to unauthorised construction in places which are not in the vicinity of the area where the petitioner Society or the NGO are situated. 'These facts are alarming and shocking, which disclose the deplorable conduct of the petitioner in filing cases for extorting money from people, by misusing and abusing the process of this Court," the High Court said. The court said that on the one hand, cases of unauthorised constructions strictly with an iron hand; but at the same time, the Court has to ensure that the process of the Court is not misused by anyone in order to extort money from the persons undertaking such construction. 'A proceeding before a Court is a solemn process for furthering the cause of justice, and not for aiding unlawful objectives of certain individuals," Justice Pushkarna observed. The HC further ordered, 'On account of the facts that have come to light before this Court in relation to the clear involvement of Babu Lal Gupta, Advocate with a purported NGO, Green Gold Earth of World', and the petitioner, the matter is referred to the Bar Council of Delhi, to consider the conduct of BL Gupta, to assess whether there are any violations of BCD Rules by BL Gupta, in relation to the subject matter, and requisite action that is required to be taken, with regard thereto." Advocate Gupta has a chamber in the Rohini District. The HC is directing the registry to tag this order with the petition filed by the petitioner or Lodhi in future. Justice Pushkarna ordered, 'Considering the misuse and abuse of process of this Court and considering the fact that various petitions against unauthorised constructions have been filed by Azad Market RWA (regd.) through its General Secretary, Mr Anil Lodhi, it is directed that the Registry of this Court, at the time of accepting any petition from Azad Market RWA (regd.) or from Mr. Anil Lodhi, or from the NGO Green Gold Earth of World', shall affix the present order to the said petitions, so that this order is brought to the notice of the Court, in future also."
