Cynthia Erivo remains one of the most talented performers working today.
One letter shy of an EGOT, Erivo most recently garnered critical acclaim for her iconic performance as Elphaba in "Wicked," which earned her a second Academy Award Nomination for Best Actress.
Now, with "Wicked: For Good" releasing later this year, Erivo is ready for her next project: "Jesus Christ Superstar" at the Hollywood Bowl.

Erivo's casting has received complaints from conservative critics over, and it seems that she really doesn't care about that.

In an interview with Stephen Daw of Billboard, Erivo addressed the claims that her performance as Jesus in the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical was "blasphemous," pointing out that there was no reason she shouldn't be able to play the character.
"Why Not?" Erivo asked with a chuckle. "You can't please everyone. It is legitimately a three-day performance at the Hollywood Bowl where I get to sing my face off. So hopefully they will come and realize, 'Oh, it's a musical, the gayest place on Earth.'"

Erivo received similar criticism when she was cast as Elphaba, with many critics claiming she was a "woke hire."
"I had to audition, just like everybody else. And I'm glad I had to do that," Erivo said, per Afua Hirsh of Elle. "I have the credentials for it. I've done the work. But I'm glad they got to be sure about the choice. It allows me to take this, and to know that I had to work really hard for it."
In fact, she believes her experience as "the other" informed her performance as the future Wicked Witch of the West.
"I was conscious that I didn't want to erase the thing that I am underneath the green," Erivo said. "For me, it was about using my own experience as the 'other,' as someone who exists in that way. So, that's partially the reason why Elphaba has braids, as opposed to straight hair. It's the reason why she has long nails."
Erivo will be performing in "Jesus Christ Superstar" at the Hollywood Bowl from Aug. 1-3, 2025. "Wicked: For Good" hits cinemas on Nov. 21, 2025.

The timeline order on Disney Plus makes it much easier to follow along and see when each of these titles are intended to take place. With several other installments in the works or headed to theaters, including The Fantastic Four: First Steps and the next two Avengers movies, it'll be interesting to see how these new titles will alter the timeline. Zenless Zone Zero Plans on Bringing Back Its Coolest Forgotten Feature
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors HoYoverse's urban fantasy action RPG, Zenless Zone Zero, will celebrate its first birthday in July 2025 and can look back at a rollercoaster of a debut year. Following a difficult start, the developers managed to turn things around by making significant changes to the game. Some beloved features from the original version were forgotten during this process, though, as the team's resources had to be focused elsewhere. In an interview with DBLTAP, ZZZ's lead producer Zhenyu Li fueled fans' hope for the return of one of the coolest forgotten features of the game: Faction-based Chain Attacks. Zenless Zone Zero character Pan Yinhu battling a mutated Ethereal. Zenless Zone Zero character Pan Yinhu battling a mutated Ethereal. HoYoverse The combat game boasts an ever-growing cast of characters, called Agents, players can use on their adventures. All of these Agents belong to specific Factions present in the game's world — these range from military units and government agencies to construction companies and martial arts temples. Players can combine these characters into teams of three without restrictions and their abilities lend themselves to certain team compositions. What many players have forgotten about by now, though, is that the original release featured an additional factor that went into team-building — the aforementioned Faction-based attacks. Ben and Koleda, two members of a Faction called Belobog Industries, get special animations for one of their combat moves when they're teamed up with each other. At launch, this was one of the most exciting features and players hoped that they'd be able to discover more of these secret combos. However, the Ben and Koleda combination was the only one available at the time and then the team had more pressing issues to work on than adding more of these. Gradually, players even forgot that this feature exists. Asked about this aspect of the game, Zhenyu Li said that Faction-based Chain Attacks are "one of the future directions for combat design" in ZZZ, not only confirming that the feature is still on the developers' minds, but actually marking it out as one of the core pillars for the future, which is an exciting prospect for all players who enjoy building themed teams. With today's release of ZZZ 2.0, the game also arrived on Xbox Series X|S, allowing an entirely new wave of players to enjoy its action-packed battles and twisting narrative.

WICKED: FOR GOOD Drops Wickedly Good First Trailer
Few shows have ever been or will likely ever be as highly anticipated as Wicked: For Good. As the second half of Jon M. Chu's adaptation of the Broadway stage show, itself a loose adaptation of Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel, it hits a sweet spot of fandoms. With powerhouse stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande portraying protagonist Elphaba Thropp and initial rival and later friend Glinda Upland, respectively, the film's musical pedigree is anchored. Indisputably, Chu's vision of Oz is a worthy heir to 1939's The Wizard of Oz, a groundbreaking piece of cinema when it first premiered. RELATED: GGA Crush of the Week: Elphaba Thropp Wicked: For Good arrives in theaters on November 21. Wicked: Part 1 ended with Elphaba breaking away from the pack, rejecting the Wizard's (Jeff Goldblum) offer to help subjugate Oz under his rule with her powers. Always able to pivot, the Wizard turns her into a villain he can pit the people against. This buoys his popularity and distracts from the real problems in Oz. Image Credit: Universal Pictures Wicked: For Good At the heart of the story is Elphaba and Glinda's friendship, painted on the lore established in The Wizard of Oz . Wicked: For Good picks up with Oz's residents taking up arms and a contagious mob mentality against Elphaba, now branded by the Wizard as 'The Wicked Witch of the West.' Glinda has retained a place of societal status. Secretly, she remains friends with Elphaba. Meanwhile, the magnificent Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) continues to spin her spells on the Wizard's behalf. Image Credit: Universal Pictures RELATED: It's Gonna Be Popular: First Wicked Trailer Debuts Glinda's popularity and social savviness make her the obvious choice as the Wizard poster girl for 'Good.' This includes marrying Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey), now the head of the Wizard's army, and appearing to be as magical as Elphaba thanks to the Wizard's gadgetry. Image Credit: Universal Pictures Elphaba lives a solitary life, hiding from the Wizard while honing her powers with the help of the Grimmerie, the tome of magical knowledge. Unseen in the trailer are her sister Nessarose (Marissa Bode) and the Munchkin Boq (Ethan Slater). As tragic as their story is, one wonders if it'll factor into Chu's narrative. There are, however, many Animals in what can only be assumed to be a revolution of sorts. World Building Brilliantly, Wicked: Part 1 and Wicked: For Good not only build the backstory for the familiar characters and relationships of Oz, they literally lay the foundation for major infrastructure developments. The Wizard understands the benefits of keeping the populace busy, after all. In the trailer, we see Elphaba lay a hand on the gold-painted bricks that eventually form that infamous road to the Emerald City. Image Credit: Universal Pictures Perhaps the most tantalizing scenes in the trailer are those of Dorothy Gale (Alisha Weir). Two iconic moments are reimagined for Wicked fans. There's a far-away shot of Dorothy setting out on her journey with Toto and some enthusiastic Munchkins (presumably after parking her house on Nessarose). The one that sent chills down my spine is the four of them standing in front of the Wizard's mechanical talking head. Remembering the anxiety the original characters felt in The Wizard of Oz , it's pretty horrifying to realize the man behind the puppetry is much scarier. Image Credit: Universal Pictures RELATED: Wicked 's Newest Trailer Defies Gravity There's also an enigmatic shot of the silver slippers as someone walks across a wet floor wearing them. Is it Dorothy (as the ankle socks seem to indicate), or could it be that moment for Nessarose? Get Ready to Thank Goodness The nearly three-minute-long trailer packs in a lot of plot points. One slightly spoilery one shows Fiyero revealing his true allegiance. What isn't rushed is the lavish production value. The sweeping shots of the lavish setting are just as breathtaking as Wicked: Part 1. And, of course, soundtracking it with clips of Erivo's 'No Good Deed' and Grande's 'For Good' only stokes the flames of fan fervor. Can Wicked: For Good defy gravity even more than Wicked: Part 1 did? Besides dropping this trailer, the publicity team also opened the soundtrack's pre-save option online. Wicked: For Good hits theaters November 21.
