Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale joins Newcastle on season-long loan
Ramsdale has secured a Premier League return by joining Newcastle for the 2025-26 season, with Southampton receiving a substantial fee and seeing his wages covered in full as part of the loan.
The PA news agency understands the Magpies, who lost out on Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford to Manchester City, also have a purchase option as part of the agreement.

'It's great to be here,' Ramsdale said. 'I've always loved coming here and I've seen how passionate and loud the fans can be.
'I've always loved playing here at St James' Park – I've not always had the greatest of results, but when the fans get behind you it's some place.'
Ramsdale has made 183 Premier League appearances since being handed his top-flight debut in 2019 under Magpies boss Eddie Howe at Bournemouth.
'Working with the manager and his coaching staff again were a big draw for me,' the England international said.
'They've already had a great influence on my career and the gaffer turned me from a man into a professional footballer at Bournemouth.
'He really showed me the ropes, so the manager and his coaching staff were a huge selling point for me to come here.'
Newcastle head coach Howe added: 'Aaron is an exceptional goalkeeper who adds further quality and international experience to our squad.
'Having worked with him before, I know what he can bring to us on and off the pitch, so we look forward to welcoming him into the group.'

Responding to the announcement of the signing, one fan wrote: 'delighted to welcome Wilson - a man who mocked our European trophy, said Michail Antonio would never play CL, and made a career out of scoring against us. Truly the West Ham way. Another said: You know Callum that most Hammers were against you signing, for a number of reasons, including the times when you have dissed the club over the years. Newcastle are pursuing a deal for Benjamin Sesko, but have established a back-up plan if they cannot land the RB Leipzig striker. The future of Sesko has become one of the transfer sagas of the summer, with Arsenal interest in the forward now seeming like a dim and distant past. The Gunners snapped up Viktor Gyokeres instead and now it is a race between Newcastle and Manchester United for the Slovenian's signature. The Magpies have made a bid of a £69.8m for Sesko and seen it rejected by Leipzig as the German club sense a bidding war in the offing with the Red Devils. Manchester United are yet to make an official bid for the in-demand forward, and it seems that Sesko must make a decision on which Premier League club he wants to join and then a deal will be struck. The Daily Mail report that PSG striker Goncalo Ramos is on Newcastle's list of targets, should they fail in their attempts to sign Sesko. Still just 24 years old, the Portuguese forward joined PSG from Benfica in the summer of 2023 and has since scored 33 goals in 86 appearances across all competitions. The 16-cap Portugal international scored 19 goals in all competitions last season as PSG enjoyed a stunning treble-winning campaign. He featured regularly, but often as a substitute, starting just 12 Ligue 1 games last season and only one in the Champions League. The Mail's report states that PSG are open to letting Ramos leave this summer. An asking price has not been suggested, but it is very likely to be less than Leipzig's for Sesko. Aston Villa and England striker Ollie Watkins is also believed to be on Newcastle's radar as they look to improve on a frustrating summer so far in the transfer market. This all comes as the future of Alexander Isak remains in the balance, with Liverpool still interested in a big-money move for the Magpies superstar. The 25-year-old Swede has had his head turned by the Premier League champions' interest this summer. Isak did not travel to Asia for Newcastle's pre-season tour due to what the club called a 'minor thigh injury', only for his interest in a move to emerge along with the fact he has been training at former club Real Sociedad. The Reds have seen a bid of £110m turned down by Newcastle, but may return with an improved offer. The Magpies reportedly want £150m for their star striker and Liverpool are unlikely to meet that demand, but they will hope to convince Newcastle to do business with Isak wanting to leave. Eddie Howe's team drew with Tottenham in a friendly on Sunday and the manager was asked whether Isak will return to training in the coming week. The England defender is a new arrival in the Spanish capital after the La Liga giants fought hard to bring him in from Liverpool, even agreeing to pay the Premier League side £10m to ensure he arrived in time for the Club World Cup in June. Alexander-Arnold arrives in Madrid with pedigree having just won his second Premier League title with Liverpool, where he won eight cups in total - including the Champions League in 2019. Alonso sees the 26-year-old as "the chosen one", according to Spanish outlet E-Noticies, who says the manager has put his faith in the England star due to his "quality, vision and offensive contribution". Alexander-Arnold knew he had work to do in order to unseat Carvajal - the boyhood Madrid star who has made 428 appearances for the club, winning every trophy available to him. That includes four La Liga titles and an astonishing six Champions League titles. But the report claims that Carvajal will "have to get used to the bench" and says the veteran defender is "no longer untouchable" after spending much of last season on the sidelines with a cruciate ligament tear. Carvajal - who has been at the club for so long that he played with Alonso at Real Madrid - will turn 34 in January and no longer has the same pace and power he was once renowned for. Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, has been a huge hit since arriving in Madrid - wowing the press with his fluent Spanish-speaking ability. He also gets along well with the club's centre-backs, the report adds, and has the "character, talent and profile" that fits the playing style Alonso wants to implement on the team. It says Alonso is looking more towards a youthful outlook for the team, saying that stars like Endrick, Arda Guler and Brahim Diaz could start becoming "key pieces" of the puzzle at Madrid. Carvajal is not the only long-serving star who faces a bench role in the upcoming season. Rodrygo appears to have fallen down the pecking order under Alonso already after the coach after he was benched for their Club World Cup semi-final clash against PSG. Alonso said he needed "another player" when asked for a reasoning behind the decision, but said he hadn't decided whether on the Brazilian's future just yet. "The fact that he didn't play again is a game-by-game decision," he said. "The way things were going, we needed another player.
