Bihar like Taliban under PM, Nitish Kumar rule: Tejashwi Yadav amid rising violence

India Today5 days ago
Ahead of the Bihar elections, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, on Saturday called the NDA government in the state 'helpless' in the face of the rising wave of violence, alleging that the "BJP has turned Bihar into Taliban."In a hard-hitting post on X, Tejashwi highlighted several major crime incidents in the state, writing: "BJP has turned Bihar into Taliban! Doctor shot in Gaya. Open firing between two groups in Patna. Woman shot in Patna. Businessman murdered in Rohtas."advertisementAs the growing spate of gang-related violence continues, Tejashwi took a veiled dig at Bihar's 'double-engine' government, blaming both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the deteriorating law and order situation.
"The Modi-Nitish BJP government is helpless. DK tax-protected goons and criminals are fearless!" he went on.Tejashwi's tirade against the Nitish-led NDA government in Bihar comes after a series of gang-related violence incidents rocked the state over the past few weeks.Five unidentified assailants stormed into a private hospital in Patna and shot dead a prisoner out on parole in broad daylight. In his post, Tejashwi referred to a retired health official being shot by unidentified bike-borne assailants in Gaya this morning, leaving the doctor in critical condition. He also mentioned two recent murders in Rohtas district — including the killing of a businessman — within 24 hours.A fortnight ago, prominent businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead by a gunman — who was later killed in a police encounter — in Patna. The accused opened fire on Khemka - owner of Magadh Hospital, one of the oldest private hospitals in the state - just as he stepped out of his car near an apartment close to his residence, Panache Hotel, in the posh Gandhi Maidan area.- EndsTrending Reel

‘Modi is my living god': Woman gets emotional during Prime Minister's visit to UK

A woman got emotional after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the UK. Speaking to the media, the woman said, 'He is my living god. I am blessed to have his 'darshan'. I thank the people of India for re-electing him.' PM Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to the UK with the focus on bilateral ties in defence, trade, and technology. The India-UK free trade deal has also been finalised during his trip. Following the finalisation of the trade deal, PM Modi announced that India and the UK have entered a new phase of economic partnership with the signing of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the Double Contribution Convention during his meeting with UK PM Meir Starmer. He highlighted that the agreement has the potential to boost trade and investment between the two countries. "Together, we are laying the foundation stone of a new history. We are meeting for the third time this year. I consider this very significant. The UK and India are natural partners. Today marks a historic day in our relations. This will pave a very strong path for the future generations of India and the UK. This is adding a new chapter in business and trade," PM Modi said. In a post on the social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, 'The talks with PM Keir Starmer were outstanding, particularly in the wake of the successful signing of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. In addition to economic cooperation, this agreement sets the stage for boosting shared prosperity.' He further added, 'Exquisite Indian textile products, footwear, gems and jewellery and engineering goods will gain market access to the UK. The opportunities for agricultural products and processed foods will also get an impetus. All of this will benefit our people, especially farmers, women, youngsters, fishermen and MSMEs. The Agreement will boost 'Ease of Doing Business', reduce 'Cost of Doing Business' and enhance 'Confidence of Doing Business'. Investment linkages are all set to get more vigour.' PM Modi announced the launch of Vision 2035, a plan to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership across defence, education, semiconductors, sustainable development, and people-to-people connections. "It's equally gladdening that we've released Vision 2035 to deepen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This will focus on sectors like defence, education, people-to-people ties, semiconductors and sustainable development," he said. Additionally, he thanked the UK PM's condemnation of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. "My gratitude to PM Keir Starmer for the strong condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack. We also agree that extremist ideologies must not be allowed to misuse democratic freedoms. Those who misuse democratic freedoms to undermine democracy itself must be held to account," he wrote.

Piyush Goyal lists economic benefits of ‘historic' trade pact signed b/w India-UK

On India-UK FTA, Union Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal said, "A fantastic FTA (Free Trade Agreement) has been signed between India and the UK today. Under the leadership and guidance of PM Modi, through this FTA, India opened the avenue to several opportunities by safeguarding all its interests. Every sector that remains sensitive for India - for our farmers, MSMEs, like dairy, rice and sugar have not been opened. All these sectors have been safeguarded. The necessities for India where India will benefit in getting things from UK have been especially focused on. Sectors where India is competitive and has a comparative advantage over other countries, especially in labour-oriented sectors, textiles, footwear, leather, toys, furniture, pharmaceuticals and others - such markets in the UK will open for India; duties will be brought down to 0 and there will be immense opportunities for our workers, farmers, MSMEs and from India who come to the UK to work for short duration suffered around 25% losses earlier - they did not receive any benefit or pension for social security payment. 2 arrested with mephedrone in Bhopal; cops suspect involvement in forced conversions

A pistol and objectionable videos of girls were recovered from the accused in addition to the drug, he said. Yaseen Ahmed (25) and Shahwar Ahmed (42) were arrested by the crime branch of police with more than 3 grams of MD and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailendra Chauhan said. Bhopal, July 24 (PTI) Two men have been arrested with mephedrone in Bhopal, police said on Thursday, claiming that the duo were allegedly also involved in blackmailing and forced religious conversion of college girls. The accused were suspected to be making girls drug addicts and exploiting them, police sources said. National Human Right Commission member Priyank Kanoongo posted on X purported photographs of the accused with some police officials. The girls were being made drug addict at parties, exploited and converted to Islam, he alleged. Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari alleged that the accused had ties with some BJP leaders. In a statement, he said, 'The case that surfaced during action against the drug mafia in Bhopal is not just shocking, but also a living proof of the moral and administrative failure of the state government…. It exposes the BJP government's corruption and collusion with criminals.' Chief Minister Mohan Yadav should clarify whether the accused had connections with any of his ministers, the Congress leader said. BJP spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi rubbished Patwari's accusation as baseless and false. 'In fact, the BJP government in MP has taken action. For our genuine action, we are being questioned. Criminals don't have any religion, caste or political party,' he added. In this era of social media, anybody can get a photograph clicked (with another person), Chaturvedi said.
