New York Giants legend Bill Parcells to be inducted into Patriots Hall of Fame
Legendary New York Giants head coach Bill Parcells will soon add to the long list of honors that currently line his resume.
In addition to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Giants Ring of Honor, Parcells will be inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame during a ceremony on Saturday, September 20 at 4:00 p.m. ET on the Patriot Place Plaza.
Parcells served as head coach of the Patriots from 1993 to 1996, helping restore credibility and competitive success to a struggling franchise. Inheriting a team that had gone 14-50 over the previous four seasons, including an NFL worst 2-14 season in 1992 and 1-15 season in 1990, Parcells made an immediate impact. In 1994, he led the Patriots on a season-ending seven-game win streak to secure their first playoff berth in eight years. The performance earned Parcells NFL Coach of the Year honors. After finishing 6-10 in 1995, the Patriots rebounded with an 11-win season in 1996, tying the then franchise record for wins and earning their first division title in a decade. After a convincing, 28-3, victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the divisional playoff game in foggy Foxborough, the Patriots hosted their first AFC Championship game and defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars, 20-6, to reach Super Bowl XXXI, marking just the second Super Bowl appearance in franchise history.
Parcells was a Patriots Hall of Fame finalist five times (2011, 2012, 2014, 2020 and 2023) before his 2025 induction. A Pro Football Hall of Famer (Class of 2013), Parcells is the only head coach in NFL history to lead four different teams to the playoffs and three different teams to a conference championship game. He is also a member of the Patriots 1990s All-Decade Team.
Although Parcells' career success transcends what he did with the Giants, he is most well-known for his time as linebackers coach (1981-1982), defensive coordinator (1979, 1981-1982), and head coach (1983-1991) of Big Blue.
During his time with the Giants, Parcells led the team to two Super Bowl championships, including their first ever (1986). He was also named Pro Football Weekly NFL Coach of the Year, The Sporting News NFL Coach of the Year, and AP NFL Coach of the Year that season.
Parcells will be inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame alongside wide receiver Julian Edelman.

NY Giants' Cam Skattebo might play in final preseason game: What to know

Former Arizona State star running back Cam Skattebo could suit up for the New York Giants' preseason finale, Thursday, Aug. 21, and is now more likely to play in Week 1. The do-everything standout for last season's Big 12 champion Sun Devils was cleared to return to practice for the Giants on Tuesday, Aug. 19, Giants coach Brian Daboll told reporters, and reports indicate things are looking good. Skattebo, whose nagging hamstring injury caused him to miss several practices and the Giants' first two preseason games, sits at No. 3 on the running back depth chart. Skattebo was "on the field (Tuesday, Aug. 19) and was involved in team drills." Cam Skattebo's status changes: New York Giants practice update When will Cam Skattebo play? Skattebo's return to practice ahead of the team's preseason finale Thursday, Aug. 21, against the New England Patriots indicates he has a chance to start the season on time, Sept. 7 at the Washington Commanders. He also could play in the preseason game that kicks off at 5 p.m. MST (8 p.m. Eastern). The Skattebo health trending is looking up, according to a report after Tuesday practice from the Giants. Art Stapleton, Giants beat writer for said Skattebo "did more today in team drills than either Andrew Thomas or Malik Nabers. That's not a bad thing for AT or Nabers, just a good thing worth noting for Skattebo and the Giants." Running backs Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary are listed ahead of Skattebo. 'Better than advertised': Cam Skattebo turns heads at Giants training camp Is Cam Skattebo playing against the Patriots? Skattebo, a fourth-round pick by the Giants, has missed much of training camp. Daboll indicated before the Aug. 19 practice that Skattebo's participation could be limited, but it was encouraging news nonetheless for a player expected to receive a healthy dose of touches this season. The Giants will consider resting Skattebo for their final preseason game, Thursday, Aug. 21, at home against the New England Patriots but Stapleton, during his podcast published Wednesday morning, Aug. 20, said, "It would not shock me to see him make a cameo" in the preseason finale. "I'm not talking a full load, but maybe a couple snaps," Stapleton said. "... He was running yesterday and it did not look like he was encumbered in any way." There had been concerns that Skattebo's hamstring issue could result in him being placed on injured reserve after final roster cutdowns on Aug. 26. Such a move would require Skattebo to miss the first four weeks of the regular season. Placing him on IR before the squad is trimmed to 53 would force him to miss the entire 2025 season. That concern has been dramatically altered, however, with the news that Skattebo returned to practice and reportedly performed well. Skattebo set the Arizona State single-season record last year with 1,711 yards. He also scored 21 touchdowns, became the first player in school history to amass 2,000 or more yards from scrimmage in a single season and finished fifth in balloting for the Heisman Trophy. OLB coach thinks Patriots found rare NFL talent in undrafted rookie

New England Patriots' outside linebackers coach Mike Smith had high praise for undrafted rookie linebacker Elijah Ponder. Ponder was an FCS All-American in 2023 and named to the All-Big Sky First-Team in 2023 and 2024. He recorded 167 tackles and 26.5 sacks during his run at the collegiate level. When it comes to training camp standouts, Ponder has been one of the more underrated rookies on the Patriots' roster. He is already viewed as a dark-horse candidate to make the final 53-man team. "I am fired up about that kid [Ponder]," said Smith. "...Watching him come out, because he was a guy that nobody was looking at. But when you look at his athletic ability, it's off the charts. He's a big rusher. He looks great in space. ...He's got this very rare ability of picking up things quick and look like he's done it from Day 1, which is remarkable. That kid is another one who has an extremely bright future. Probably one of the best free agent pickups I've ever seen." Training camp is always exciting, as new stars and impact playmakers begin to emerge. Ponder appears to be making headway in the defensive line conversation, and it could ultimately lead to him earning a spot on the roster. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.

49ers sign Michael Dunn, Malik Knowles and release Demone Harris, Corey Kiner

With just days until their final preseason game, the San Francisco 49ers are trying to put together the best roster that they can before they have to trim the group down from 90 players to 53. With so many injuries, San Francisco's roster has been in constant flux, and that trend continued on Wednesday when they signed offensive lineman Michael Dunn and Malik Knowles. Dunn, 30, played collegiately at Maryland from 2012-16 before signing with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2017. Since then, he's had stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Birmingham Iron (AAF) and Seattle Dragons (XFL). Over the last five seasons with Cleveland, he's appeared in 53 games and started nine. Knowles, 25, earned All-Big 12 honors twice (2021-22) at Kansas State during his five-year collegiate career before signing with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He spent 2024 with the Green Bay Packers and had a stint with the 49ers earlier this offseason. To make room for the two additions, the 49ers release veteran defensive end Demone Harris and waived/injured rookie running back Corey Kiner. Harris, 29, joined the 49ers last week after stops with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs (where he won a Super Bowl), Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons. His depature leaves San Francisco with Nick Bosa, Mykel Williams, Yetur Gross-Matos, Bryce Huff, Robert Beal, Sam Okuayinonu, Jonathan Garvin, Trevis Gipson, William Bradley-King and Jaylon Allen on the edge. Kiner, 23, played collegiately at LSU in 2021 before transferring to Cincinnati for his final three seasons. Between the two schools, he rushed for 2,882 yards and 16 touchdowns on 5.2 yards per attempt and caught 32 passes for 172 yards. After signing with San Francisco as an undrafted free agent, he went down with an injury in the team's preseason win over the Las Vegas Raiders. He's now subject to waivers, and if he clears, he'll revert to the team's injured reserve. Without him, the 49ers running back room includes Christian McCaffrey, Isaac Guerendo, Jordan James, Ke'Shawn Vaughn and Jeff Wilson.
