Rohit Sharma back on the field, gears up for ODI comeback
NEW DELHI:
Rohit Sharma
is leaving no stone unturned in his bid for an ODI comeback. The veteran opener was first spotted training under former teammate and renowned coach
Abhishek Nayar
, working hard to regain match fitness after a break from competitive cricket since the IPL 2025 wrapped up in early June.
Determined to play ODIs until the 2027 World Cup, Rohit is pushing himself in the nets and beyond.
A fresh video, now viral on social media, shows the 38-year-old hitting the ground at a Mumbai stadium.
WATCH:
Amid ongoing speculation about his international future, Rohit climbed to No. 2 in the latest ICC ODI batting rankings released on Wednesday. He leapfrogged Pakistan's Babar Azam — who dropped to third after a poor ODI series in the Caribbean — and now sits on 756 points, just behind India's Test skipper Shubman Gill (784). Former captain
Virat Kohli
remains fourth with 736 points.
Both Rohit and Kohli, who retired from Test cricket earlier this year before India's England tour, have reiterated their commitment to the 50-over format. The two could return in October's three-match ODI series against Australia, with training already underway.
Rohit, one of the ODI format's greatest alongside Kohli, reached his career-best 882 rating points during the 2019 World Cup, when he struck a record five centuries in the tournament. He and Kohli last featured in ODIs during India's Champions Trophy triumph in the UAE earlier this year.
India currently have five batters inside the men's ODI top 15 —
Shreyas Iyer
in eighth and KL Rahul in 15th join Gill, Rohit, and Kohli in the elite list.

Pogba watches as Monaco start Ligue 1 season with a win
Paul Pogba watched as Monaco easily beat Le Havre 3-1 in their Ligue 1 opener on Saturday as Lyon won away at Lens. HT Image The 2018 World Cup winner's appearance in the locker room at the Louis II Stadium was one of the highlights of the first half. Dressed in a vintage Monaco jersey, a cap on his head, and a big smile on his face, Pogba saw his team quickly take the measure of an outclassed Le Havre. Midfielder Pogba signed a two-year contract with Monaco from Juventus this summer in a bid to relaunch his career back home in France. The former Manchester United player had made only 12 appearances across the last three seasons due to injuries, suspension and an extortion case in which he was the victim. However to see Pogba in a Monaco jersey, fans will have to wait a little longer, along with Guinea-Bissau forward Ansu Fati, the club's other big summer signing. Adi Hutter's hosts proved dominant particularly in midfield opening after 32 minutes after Gautier Lloris bundled Aleksandr Golovin's powerful cross into his own net. Englishman Eric Dier, also a summer signing, doubled the lead with a header from a well-taken Lamine Camara corner just after the hour mark. Le Havre pulled a goal back six minutes later when Rassoul Ndiaye got the better of new Monaco goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky before Maghnes Akliouche put the result beyond a doubt after 74 minutes. Earlier Georges Mikautadze scored the only goal as Lyon got their campaign off the mark at Lens. Mikautadze struck at the end of the first half to give the seven-time Ligue 1 champions their first win since American businesswoman Michele Kang took over as president in June to save the club from relegation after compatriot John Textor resigned amid financial irregularities. Lyon turned the page on this era by winning against their former coach Pierre Sage, who took over at Lens after Will Still's departure. Financially constrained for summer signings, Lyon built its success with what it already had with strikers Malick Fofana and Mikautadze and midfield stalwart Corentin Tolisso combining well. Fofana ran rings around the Lens defence, breaking through at the end of the first half when he provided an ideal cross to Mikautadze. Despite 18 shots on goal, Lens were unable to deliver with Wesley Said and Deiver Machado both missing numerous chances. New recruit Florian Thauvin came off the bench for Lens after 57 minutes to rapturous applause from the home fans but despite bringing creativity and freshness, the World Cup winner could not make the difference. bur/ea/dmc JUVENTUS FOOTBALL CLUB

This happened in early August 2025. The fight is set for August 16, 2025, inside the United Center in Chicago. Neal said his wife, Kayla Neal, gives him strong support because she once trained in jiu-jitsu. Her experience helps her know exactly how hard fight training can be. Neal's talk gives fans a rare peek into his private life. Geoff Neal reveals how wife Kayla Neal supports him before UFC 319 in Chicago Geoff Neal and his team recorded behind-the-scenes videos for UFC 319, including episode 1 of UFC 319 Embedded, which dropped during fight week (around August 11, 2025). In that video, Neal said: 'My wife trained before! She used to do jits, and I'm really taking all that, so she has an understanding of what it takes.' That line shows how much he trusts Kayla's own jiu-jitsu background to support him through fight prep. Kayla also spoke up. She described how tough Neal's training week gets close to a fight: 'It's a lot of long days, a lot of heavy training days, especially this close. It's two sessions a day, and he's busy and just exhausted. So, it's just chaotic, and it's a little nerve-racking.' Her words help fans feel the real effort behind life as a fighter. Miami Dolphins cornerback Ethan Bonner suffers hamstring injury in preseason game vs. Lions
Ethan Bonner leaves preseason with hamstring injury (Image via: Getty Images) The Miami Dolphins suffered their first major setback of the preseason when cornerback Ethan Bonner exited early in Saturday's Week 2 clash against the Detroit Lions. The third-year defensive back walked off the field in the first quarter and was later seen heading to the locker room, ending his afternoon early. Hamstring injury clouds Ethan Bonner 's 2025 season outlook Reports from Sun Sentinel's David Furones confirmed Bonner was evaluated in the medical tent before being taken inside, while Miami Herald's Omar Kelly indicated the injury appears to be hamstring-related. The Dolphins are yet to announce the severity, but his absence comes at a sensitive time for Miami's already thin cornerback group. Bonner, who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2023, has worked his way up from the Dolphins' practice squad to a potential rotational role. After impressing in limited opportunities, he earned a roster spot in 2024 and was even given a starting nod against Detroit this weekend. — flasportsbuzz (@flasportsbuzz) General manager Chris Grier had earlier praised Bonner for his intelligence and competitiveness, highlighting how several teams had shown trade interest. 'He's taken advantage of it every time he's had one,' Grier said recently, reflecting the growing confidence around the young cornerback. For Bonner, this preseason was an important audition. With Miami's secondary unsettled, he had an outside shot at locking down a starting role. 'I want to start and I want to play,' Bonner said ahead of the game. 'If it's here or somewhere else, I want to be on the field. I want to be in Miami.' Ethan Bonner's injury adds pressure to Dolphins' secondary depth The Miami Dolphins' secondary was already under pressure ahead of the 2025 season, and Ethan Bonner's injury has only heightened the concern. With recurring setbacks at cornerback in recent years, Miami can ill afford another blow. Bonner's recovery timeline could shape roster calls and defensive rotations in the weeks to come, making his status critical. Also Read: Tom Brady turns heads at Raiders preseason game vs. 49ers; NFL legend back in action off the field For now, the Dolphins are awaiting further evaluation to determine the severity of Bonner's injury. With roster cuts nearing and the regular season approaching, his availability will be an important factor in shaping Miami's secondary for 2025.
