Duo arrested in Mohali on murder charge

Mohali: Mohali police on Monday arrested two men for allegedly beating a migrant labourer to death at a dera in Miyanpur Changar village, under Majri block. The deceased, identified as Senki (28), hailed from Madhya Pradesh and had been working at a nearby brick kiln with his family.
The arrested accused were identified as Saudagar Singh, a resident of Morinda, and Inderjit Singh, a resident of Baroli village in Kharar. Police said both were apprehended from the dera itself, where the incident occurred. They are set to be produced in court on Tuesday.
According to the FIR based on the complaint of the victim's wife, Pinky, the assault took place on July 20 night. Pinky told the police that her husband had gone to purchase household goods from the village after dinner but did not return that night.
A search was launched by family members and fellow labourers, but Senki remained missing until the following evening.
At around 5.30pm on Sunday, the dera manager reportedly informed Pinky that a man had been caught naked at Baba's grave. Suspecting it could be her husband, Pinky rushed to the spot with a co-worker and discovered Senki lying injured near the dera's langar area. His vest was torn, and he appeared severely beaten.
In a dying declaration to his wife, Senki reportedly said he had stopped at the Dera to drink water on his way back from meeting his brother in Khijrabad village. There, two Nihangs confronted him, accused him of being under the influence of drugs, and began assaulting him. He pleaded innocence, but they continued to beat and detain him overnight.
Pinky further alleged that when she tried to intervene, Saudagar and Inderjit attacked her as well and chased her away.
When she returned in the morning with other labourers, Senki was critically unwell. Despite attempts to revive him and get him medical help, he succumbed to his injuries at the spot.
Pinky and Senki, who were living in a nearby slum, had five children: Mansi (11), Chadni (10), Mai (6), Pari (4), and Aju (2). The family had arrived in Punjab just 10–12 days ago to work at the kiln.
Majri police, along with a forensic team, reached the crime scene and collected evidence. Following initial investigation, the accused were booked under Sections 103 (murder) and 126(2) (wrongful confinement and torture) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Majri police station. A senior police officer confirmed the arrests and said further investigation is underway.

Lawrence Bishnoi gang members held for ‘Independence Day terror plot', police say
The Rajasthan Police have detained some people who had allegedly planned to carry out terror activities in Delhi and Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, on the occasion of Independence Day, August 15. Additional Director General of Police (Crime Branch) Dinesh MN said that Jitendra Chaudhary, a native of Tonk, Sanjay, a native of Hanumangarh district, and Sonu alias Kali, from Kapurthala, Punjab, apart from three minors, were picked up from Jaipur and Tonk districts last week and handed over to Special Operation Cell, Amritsar, Punjab Police. The accused were wanted in connection with a July 7 blast in Nawanshahr, Punjab. The ADG said that in order to spread terror and extort money, the henchmen of Lawrence Bishnoi gang had thrown a grenade in front of a liquor shop in Nawanshahr and fled to Rajasthan. The Punjab Police had lodged a case under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) sections 49 (abetment outside India for offence in India), 55 (abetment of offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life), 61 (2) (Criminal conspiracy) as well as sections of the Arms Act. He said that a team led by Siddhant Sharma, Additional Superintendent of Police, Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), was sent to Jaipur Range and Ajmer Range, following the Nawanshahr blast. 'The team concealed its identity and, without caring for their lives, worked hard to collect intelligence about the wanted and arrested them on August 10,' the ADG said. 'Upon interrogation, it was found that they are associated with Lawrence Bishnoi gang and that their handler is Zeeshan Akhtar, who lives in Canada and had taken responsibility for the murder of Baba Siddique in Mumbai,' he said, adding that Zeeshan Akhtar, Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti, Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist Manu Agwan and Gopi Nawanshahria are all allegedly connected with each other. 'They carry out criminal activities in different parts of the country and contact local youth by luring them with money to commit the crime. The accused in the present case are connected with Zeeshan Akhtar through Instagram and other online apps. Zeeshan Akhtar had also provided grenades to the accused for the Nawanshahr blast. He used to give instructions to them through online applications. He had also instructed them to carry out blasts in Delhi and Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, on Independence Day, August 15,' the ADG said. In June, Mumbai police had said that Zeeshan Akhtar, who is one of the main accused in the murder case of NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, has been detained in Canada. However, there has been little clarity on the case or Akhtar's whereabouts since then.

Thane-based firm dupes man of Rs 23.5 lakh in share trading fraud; six booked
Thane, Aug 16 (PTI) A 44-year-old man was allegedly duped of Rs 23.5 lakh by the owner of a financial services company in Maharashtra's Thane district and his associates, who lured him to invest in share trading, police said on Saturday. A case has been registered against a Diva-based firm's owner and five associates under sections 316(2), 316(5) (criminal breach of trust), 318(4) (cheating) and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for the crime that took place between March and August, an official said. The complainant, who owns a medical store, has alleged that the accused lured him to invest in share trading, he said. 'The complainant was induced to make repeated payments with the assurance of high returns. However, when he demanded his profits or the principal investment back, he was allegedly abused in slang and threatened with dire consequences," the official from Mumbra police said. The complainant approached the police on Wednesday. 'The accused allegedly threatened to kill the complainant and his family members when he insisted on repayment," the official said, adding that a probe is underway into the firm's operations and transactions. More trouble for NCP (SP) leader Eknath Khadse's son-in-law, Pune police book him for taking nude videos of woman
The Pune city police Friday booked Dr Pranjal Khewalkar, the son-in-law of former Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party (SP) leader Eknath Khadse, for allegedly taking nude videos and photographs of a woman in his cell phone without her consent. Khewalkar, the husband of Khadse's daughter Rohini Khadse, the NCP (SP)'s women's wing chief, has been in jail after he was arrested along with four men and two women following a raid on July 27 on a flat in the Kharadi area where the police claimed a 'rave party' was underway. A police press release on Friday said the woman filed a complaint with the cyber police station that Khewalkar, between 2022 and 2025, allegedly took her nude photographs and videos at different locations without her consent and with the purpose of misusing them in the future. The police lodged a fresh FIR against Khewalkar at the cyber police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 77 (voyeurism) and provisions of the Information Technology Act. During the alleged rave party, the police claimed to have recovered 2.7 grams of substance suspected to be cocaine, 70 grams of substance suspected to be marijuana and other items, including ten cell phones, two cars, a hookah pot, liquor and beer bottles, all worth Rs 41,35,400, from the spot. Th FIR in that case was lodged against the accused at the Kharadi police station under sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act (COTPA). Khewalkar's lawyer then alleged that the police planted the contraband seized in this case for 'political' reasons and that drugs were recovered from his possession. The police said analysis of Khewalkar's mobile phone and laptop revealed multiple videos of his alleged obscene and objectionable acts with women during and after the parties. Rupali Chakankar, the chairperson of Maharashtra Women's Commission, wrote a letter to the Pune police to investigate the matter thoroughly. Khadse accused the Pune police of defaming his family by leaking private photos through a conspiracy after arresting his son-in-law.
