Liverpool reject $78mn Bayern bid for Luis Diaz: Report

Liverpool are adamant Luis Diaz is not for sale after rejecting a £59 million bid from Bayern Munich.
The PA news agency understands the Bundesliga champions' offer of £67.5 million ($78.5 million) was immediately dismissed, in keeping with the club's stance which saw them rebut an approach from Barcelona earlier in the summer.
Diaz is in the last two years of his contract and, while talks have not progressed over a new deal, privately Liverpool insist he remains an important player and interested clubs are being told that.
There is also a long-standing interest from the Saudi Pro League in the 28-year-old Colombia international.
Al Hilal's failed £100 million bid for Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, who is two years older, is viewed by some as a benchmark valuation for an elite attacker in the domestic and global market, but regardless there remains no appetite to sell.
Only a few weeks ago Diaz hinted at uncertainty over his future by claiming his representatives were openly discussing his options.
'We are currently in contact with Liverpool, because we are talking to clubs, and that's normal given the transfer market that's opening,' he said last month.
'We're trying to arrange what's best for us.'

Diaz makes debut as Bayern beat Lyon 2-1

dpa Munich Luis Diaz came on for his Bayern Munich debut and was involved in the opening goal in the Bundesliga champions' 2-1 victory over Olympique Lyon in a pre-season match on Saturday. Diaz, who arrived on Wednesday for around ?75 million ($85.4 million), was pulled down by Lyon's Clinton in the 53rd minute and Michael Olise converted the ensuing penalty. Olise completed a brace nine minutes later off Serge Gnabry before Lyon got a late consolation goal from Alejandro Rodriguez. Diaz had three efforts saved by Lyon goalkeepers Remy Descamps and Mathieu Patouillet in Bayern's first pre-season match after a three-week holiday following a Club World Cup quarter-final exit last month. Bayern coach Vincent Kompany changed his full team at half-time, with Diaz among those coming on for the second half after youngsters including Paul Wanner, Lennart Karl and Tom Bischof had been among the starters. Bayern have two more tune-up games before the official start, on Thursday against Tottenham Hotspur and on August 12 against Swiss side Grasshoppers. Their first official season match is the German Super Cup on August 16 against German Cup winners VfB Stuttgart.

Newcastle make Sesko bid with Isak's future ‘complex'

PA Media/dpa London Newcastle United have made an official bid to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko after boss Eddie Howe admitted the situation surrounding unsettled star Alexander Isak was 'far from ideal'. All eyes are on St James' Park right now as the Premier League club look to keep the Swedish sharpshooter while also attempting to bring in a big-name striker. The PA news agency understands Newcastle have accelerated talks with Leipzig to sign Sesko - who Manchester United also have in their sights - and submitted an offer reportedly worth up to £69.7 million ($92.2 million). The development comes after the Magpies rejected a £110 million bid for Isak on Friday from Liverpool, who recently beat them to the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt frontman Hugo Ekitike. 'I think from my situation, I am very much removed from everything that is happening back home,' Newcastle boss Howe said on Isak. 'I was made aware that there was a bid yesterday. That bid was turned down all before I even heard about it, so I think there's people back in England dealing with the situation. 'I really don't know what's going to happen next, but from our perspective we still support Alex in every way, and my wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again.' Isak did not travel to Asia for Newcastle's pre-season tour due to what the club called a 'minor thigh injury', only for talk of his unhappiness to emerge. Howe admitted 'you don't know what's going to happen from this point' and, surprisingly, that he found out that the 25-year-old was training with former club Real Sociedad through the media. 'I know where he is, really, through the media, so I think from that perspective it's difficult for me to go into any kind of detail,' the Newcastle boss said. 'The situation is far from ideal and it is quite complex. I think that's all I have got to say.' Howe was speaking at a press conference in Seoul previewing a friendly against Tottenham and was tight-lipped when quizzed on Newcastle's pursuit of Slovenia international Sesko. The manager said 'he can't talk about individual targets' in the wake of reports in the striker's homeland overnight claiming that the 22-year-old wants to move to St James' Park rather than Old Trafford. Newcastle have now reportedly made an ?75 million ($86.2 million) bid to Leipzig, with a further ?5 million in potential add-ons. Howe said: 'We are looking for the best players that we can get.'

Isak's Liverpool link grows as Newcastle absence continues

Newcastle have rejected Liverpool's opening bid to sign unsettled Sweden striker Alexander Isak, according to reports. Isak has been training at his old club Real Sociedad this week after reportedly telling Newcastle he wants to leave St James' Park. The 25-year-old has been linked with Liverpool since the end of last season, and the Premier League champions are now believed to have formalised their interest with an offer of about 110 million pounds ($146m) plus potential add-ons. But Newcastle, who reportedly value Isak at 150 million pounds ($199m), remain eager to hold on to their prize asset and have rebuffed Liverpool's initial bid. Isak, who joined Newcastle in a 60-million-pound ($80m) move from Real Sociedad in 2022, scored 23 Premier League goals last season to help Newcastle qualify for the Champions League. He has three years left on his Newcastle contract, but did not travel to Asia for the Magpies' ongoing preseason tour, with the club saying he had a minor thigh injury. On Thursday, Real Sociedad confirmed he was at their Zubieta facility with his own trainers. It was reported on Friday that Newcastle had told Isak he could agree a new deal containing a get-out clause for next year, but he responded by insisting he wants to move now. Liverpool manager Arne Slot has already bolstered his attacking options by signing Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike and Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz during the current transfer window. But the Reds are eager to make their forward line even more formidable by adding Isak, as they look to win back-to-back English titles for the first time since the 1980s. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe struck a defiant note earlier this week when he said: 'He is still our player. He's contracted to us. 'We, to a degree, control what is next for him. I would love to believe all possibilities are still available to us. 'My wish is that he stays, but that's not in my full control.' Liverpool have spent more than 250 million pounds ($332m) so far in the summer window, with Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Giorgi Mamardashvili joining Wirtz and Ekitike at Anfield.
