Liverpool reject $78mn Bayern bid for Luis Diaz: Report

Liverpool are adamant Luis Diaz is not for sale after rejecting a £59 million bid from Bayern Munich.
The PA news agency understands the Bundesliga champions' offer of £67.5 million ($78.5 million) was immediately dismissed, in keeping with the club's stance which saw them rebut an approach from Barcelona earlier in the summer.
Diaz is in the last two years of his contract and, while talks have not progressed over a new deal, privately Liverpool insist he remains an important player and interested clubs are being told that.
There is also a long-standing interest from the Saudi Pro League in the 28-year-old Colombia international.
Al Hilal's failed £100 million bid for Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, who is two years older, is viewed by some as a benchmark valuation for an elite attacker in the domestic and global market, but regardless there remains no appetite to sell.
Only a few weeks ago Diaz hinted at uncertainty over his future by claiming his representatives were openly discussing his options.
'We are currently in contact with Liverpool, because we are talking to clubs, and that's normal given the transfer market that's opening,' he said last month.
'We're trying to arrange what's best for us.'

Diaz, who arrived on Wednesday for around ?75 million ($85.4 million), was pulled down by Lyon's Clinton in the 53rd minute and Michael Olise converted the ensuing penalty. Olise completed a brace nine minutes later off Serge Gnabry before Lyon got a late consolation goal from Alejandro Rodriguez. Diaz had three efforts saved by Lyon goalkeepers Remy Descamps and Mathieu Patouillet in Bayern's first pre-season match after a three-week holiday following a Club World Cup quarter-final exit last month. Bayern coach Vincent Kompany changed his full team at half-time, with Diaz among those coming on for the second half after youngsters including Paul Wanner, Lennart Karl and Tom Bischof had been among the starters. Bayern have two more tune-up games before the official start, on Thursday against Tottenham Hotspur and on August 12 against Swiss side Grasshoppers. Their first official season match is the German Super Cup on August 16 against German Cup winners VfB Stuttgart.

PA Media/dpa London Newcastle United have made an official bid to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko after boss Eddie Howe admitted the situation surrounding unsettled star Alexander Isak was 'far from ideal'. All eyes are on St James' Park right now as the Premier League club look to keep the Swedish sharpshooter while also attempting to bring in a big-name striker. The PA news agency understands Newcastle have accelerated talks with Leipzig to sign Sesko - who Manchester United also have in their sights - and submitted an offer reportedly worth up to £69.7 million ($92.2 million). The development comes after the Magpies rejected a £110 million bid for Isak on Friday from Liverpool, who recently beat them to the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt frontman Hugo Ekitike. 'I think from my situation, I am very much removed from everything that is happening back home,' Newcastle boss Howe said on Isak. 'I was made aware that there was a bid yesterday. That bid was turned down all before I even heard about it, so I think there's people back in England dealing with the situation. 'I really don't know what's going to happen next, but from our perspective we still support Alex in every way, and my wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again.'
