In NCIS: Origins Season 2, Will Gibbs Go From ‘Probie' to Assertive Agent? EP Previews ‘Honest' Evolution Ahead
That is the question I and probably other NCIS: Origins viewers have, heading into Season 2 of the prequel spinoff (now airing Tuesdays at 9, this fall!).

NCIS: Origins, starring Austin Stowell as Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, didn't put up 'huge' Nielsen numbers, but it was well-received for what it is — a wonderfully cast deep-dive into The Man Who Would One Day Become Boss' first days at NIS' Camp Pendleton office. (TVLine readers gave Season 1 an average grade of 'A.')
Working under Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid) and Lala Dominguez (Mariel Molino), alongside 'Randy' Randolf (Caleb Foote) and Vera Strickland (Diany Rodriguez), and with support from 'HSIC' Mary Jo Hayes (Tyla Abercrumbie), Gibbs kept a (very) low profile to start, and only recently started to more loudly voice his opinions.
In fact, it was what Gibbs was up to outside of the team's Quonset hut that drew more attention, especially when his role in drug lord Pedro Hernandez's murder was confirmed for Franks and others.
There's no hard and fast rule for when a 'probie' can shrug off that dismissive designation — it's arguably around a year, Google tells me? — but while Gibbs is, yes, the 'new guy' on the team, it only gets more and more disheartening to see him in so supportive a capacity, and never steering any investigations (outside of the whole Bugs/second sniper mystery that bookended Season 1).
Gibbs will one day run the D.C. office, very effectively and for a long while, so I hope to see sparks of that leadership potential 'flicker' more and more occasionally in NCIS: Origins Season 2. That is why I asked co-showrunners David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal if Gibbs will in fact 'be a bit more active, speak up more, and have a say in investigations' during the show's sophomore run.
'We're inching our way there, definitely, in a way that we think is honest for the character,' North told me.
'I mean, just take the fact that in Season 1, we know Gibbs' gut was churning a little bit about Bugs and thinking, 'Maybe there's more to this story?'' North reminded. 'But Gibbs didn't go down that path, he didn't gnaw at Franks and say, 'Hey, my gut…' — and he learned in the end he was right. Those are all stepping stones toward becoming the Gibbs that we met in 2003.'

The Mavs' big man put up an impressive run of performances with the team last season, but given his tendency to miss games during the season, Dallas can only hope to see him spend more time on the court with the team. Additionally, there is also growing uncertainty about the timeline for Kyrie Irving's return from injury. After initial reports suggested that Irving would be back on the floor by January 2026, the guard recently mentioned that there is no such guarantee. This could have a massive impact on Dallas' performance next season. WNBA reality TV: Minnesota Lynx 'Stud Budz' live stream dominated All-Star weekend
INDIANAPOLIS — Walking the halls in the bowels of the Gainbridge Fieldhouse before the WNBA All-Star Game Saturday, Minnesota Lynx guard Natisha Hiedeman was omnipresent. One half of the "Stud Budz," Hiedeman and her Lynx teammate Courtney Williams — who both have pink hair —started a live stream on Twitch a couple of months ago and spent All-Star weekend giving the fans a behind-the-scenes look at the W. Their Twitch bio describes the stream as "just two Stud Budz who hoop and live our best life." "It really started off as two friends, we knew about Twitch, and said, 'Let's just start streaming,'" Hiedeman said, not pausing the stream to do an interview with USA TODAY Studio IX. "It's a platform that's unique, that really no one in the W has touched, so we was like, 'Let's be the first ones.'" Williams, playing on Team Collier, said the 72-hour All-Star stream has been eye-opening. "We are so surprised, honestly, we did not know how much love we'd be getting," Williams said. "I think people just love getting that behind the scenes, being so authentic, seeing players mess with us." There were close to 15,000 people streaming the duo as they made their way through Indianapolis this weekend. All-Star captains Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier talked to Hiedeman about the Twitch stream before their pregame media availability on Saturday. "How does your phone not overheat?" Clark asked. Then she copped to being a fangirl. "I was watching the live stream all last night, downstairs on my TV." Team Collier's Angel Reese said the authenticity of the Stud Budz is what sets the content apart. "It's like a reality TV show with them," Reese, a member of the Chicago Sky, said. "They have made it the best. No matter where we are, what party we at, the players made the weekend what it is and you really enjoy the moment because it's so much fun. "Getting to know everyone off the court. You're battling all year, it's competition, but just being able to build relationships has been great. I am happy for what they are doing, I hope they continue to do it and make some money." The best moment of All-Star weekend? "Not a favorite moment, but Stud Budz has been the highlight of, I think, everybody's weekend," Collier said. Hiedeman said the sky is the limit now that their brand has been unleashed."We going to be at the Grammys, ESPYs, what other live events?" Hiedeman said. "Paris fashion week, the Met Gala — anything big and, like a good time, if it's fun and live, call us and we will be there."

Former Ohio State quarterback Will Howard discusses last six months while at ESPYs
To say that it's been a memorable and eventful last six months for former Ohio State quarterback Will Howard would be an understatement. Not only did he realize a couple of childhood dreams by winning a College Football Playoff national championship and by being selected in the NFL draft, but he also appeared on the red carpet at the ESPYs because the Buckeyes were nominated for "Team of the Year." And while OSU didn't win that award, he still got to rub elbows with American sports' royalty and experience all that comes from being a part of the festivities. One other thing Howard has been able to do is learn from future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers after he was signed to lead the Steelers this coming year. Howard -- all decked out in his best -- took some time while at the ESPYs to talk about those things and more while on the red carpet ahead of sitting in the audience in person to watch the annual sports awards show. As he always is, Howard was gracious and engaging in talking about a six-month whirlwind that will undoubtedly be unlike any other in his life. He reflected on his transfer to Ohio State, making a run to the national championship, and what it means to be mentored by Rodgers. It's unlikely that Howard will get much time under center in Pittsburgh this season, but as Rodgers moves on, if he can learn and make the most of the opportunity he has, maybe we can see him doing some of the same things he did for Ohio State for the Steelers in the near future.
