THE first half of the new Marvel Studios miniseries Ironheart premieres on June 24 on Disney+.
Actress Dominique Thorne reprises her role as Riri Williams (Ironheart), a genius teenaged innovator who created an advanced suit of armour, rivalling the one built by Tony Stark (Iron Man).
First introduced in 2022's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the six-episode series is set to take place following the film's events, diving into the character's background, upbringing and determination to make a mark on the world.
The show will also introduce Parker Robbins aka The Hood (Anthony Ramos), an ally of Riri's who wears a hood that allows him to tap into dark arts and magic.
In an interview, Dominique explained how her character differs from Tony Stark's, despite following his steps in terms of innovation and intelligence.
The beloved character who kick-started the Marvel cinematic universe (MCU) back in 2008 with the titular film had the resources and foundation which Riri does not have, leaving her fully dependent on herself and giving her different challenges to overcome.
'She does not have a billion dollars at her disposal. She does not have the resources... she doesn't have the mentorship, or the guidance,' Dominique said.
'And so what does it look like for someone like The Hood to enter her sphere now, where she is vulnerable and reflecting? It does set the stage for a very interesting journey ahead to see the people who pop up as she's working to get those answers and what the scale of their influence can be, if any?' she added.
Ironheart is overall MCU'S 14th television project and is set to be the last series and conclusion of the Phase Five group of films and shows, which includes Ant-Man (2023) and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023) and Marvel's latest release Thunderbolts* this year.

Humming home tunes

The Jonas Brothers are dropping their seventh album Greetings from Your Hometown tomorrow, August 8. The new project embraces elements of the American pop-rock trio's hometown New Jersey, drawing inspiration from disco pop sounds. The second single of the album, titled No Time to Talk, is reminiscent of the 1977 banger Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees. The musical siblings Joe, Nick and Kevin Jonas are expected to feature on the production. 'It really is a love letter to our roots musically and to our home state,' Nick said in an interview. 'There's a heavy influence of Bruce Springsteen and storytelling behind some of the greats from the state. But also, it's just about coming back to those roots. 'We are a family at our core, more than a band or anything else. Any time we come back to that feeling of playing music in our living room in Jersey, it's a great feeling,' he added. Formed in 2005, the band first gained popularity for its contributions to various Disney projects, most famously the Disney Channel show Hannah Montana. The then teen heart-throbs later appeared in the films Camp Rock (2008) and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam (2010). In 2013, the band split up due to creative differences causing a 'deep rift', with each of them pursuing individual projects. In 2019, the Jonas Brothers announced the end of their 'hiatus' on social media, and released their fifth album, Happiness Begins. Greetings from Your Hometown serves as a follow-up to The Album (2023), which received generally positive reviews for its feel-good tunes and catchy melodies, which captured the band's essence. This year marks 20 years since the group's formation, which the brothers will be celebrating by embarking on the Jonas20: Greetings from Your Hometown Tour.

Heroes return

Marvel superhero film The Fantastic Four: First Steps is out now in theatres. Starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn, the film tackles the titular team who must protect their 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic world Earth-828 from the planet-devouring cosmic Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his herald the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). Known for her role as Nadia Vulvokov in the Netflix series Russian Doll, actress Natasha Lyonne is also set to appear in the film. 'I think people are going to love it (the film), and I'm so proud to be a part of it,' she said in an interview. Director Matt Shakman revealed that he cast the Marvel heroes without auditions, explaining that he had an instinct for who would be right for each part. 'Great actors create great chemistry. You bring people together, and you build a process that supports the building of that chemistry,' he said. The director made sure to decorate the rehearsal room in a 1960s style and had the cast learn period dances. He also included archival stills from National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) launches to immerse the performers into the film's atmosphere. 'We approached the story dramaturgically as you would a play, before we got on our feet with anything,' Pedro, who plays the role of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, said. 'It was Matt setting up the circumstances to be together as a cast and flesh out a language that bonded each of us together as a family,' he added. The film marks the comic heroes' return to the big screen since the critical and commercial failure of 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Four (2015). It is expected to be received positively due to the new version's vibrant retro aesthetic that better captures the illustrated books' essence than its predecessor's dark and edgy approach.

Robert Downey Jr's faith in entertainment industry reaffirmed after Marvel co-star's rise to fame

Bang Showbiz | Los Angeles Robert Downey Jr. says Pedro Pascal's 'slow trajectory' to becoming a 'household name' has reaffirmed his 'faith' in the entertainment industry. The acting heavyweights have grown close after shooting forthcoming Marvel film Avengers: Doomsday, and Downey Jr. is delighted to see Pascal is on a 'wildly hot streak' after a gradual rise to fame. He told Vanity Fair magazine: 'Pascal's slow trajectory to becoming a household name who is on a wildly hot streak kind of reaffirms my faith in our industry.' Pascal's breakout role came in 2014 when he portrayed Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones, and he went on to play Javier Pena in Netflix crime show Narcos. More recently, Pascal told how he heads to Downey Jr.'s house for Avengers cast 'homework' days ahead of starring in Doomsday, in which he will play Reed Richards/ Mister Fantastic, and he praised his pal as 'so immediately generous and inviting'. Speaking about Downey Jr. - who will play Victor von Doom/ Doctor Doom in the 2026 movie - the 50-yearold actor said: 'He's just so immediately generous and inviting that you feel like you can be afraid, you can be hungry, you can be ambivalent.' Vanessa Kirby will also appear in Avengers: Doomsday, as Sue Storm/ Invisible Woman, and she has found Pascal to be someone you can 'trust'.
