Comelec to Duterte Youth Nominee: Explain use of different surname
Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia said the Law Department will direct Drixie Mae Cardema to answer allegations that she used a different family name for her CONA.
Reports on social media alleged that the full name of the Duterte Youth nominee was Drixie Mae Suarez and not Cardema.
'Ang Law Department namin ay kumilos na sa allegations and any moment from now, ang nominee ng Duterte Youth ay maaaring makatanggap ng SCO dahil sa allegations ng paggamit ng ibang family name,' Garcia said.
(The Comelec Law Department is now taking action and the DY nominee may receive the SCO.)
'Maganda yun para kahit paano mapasagot ang naturang first nominee dahil napaka-unfair din naman sa kanya na inaakusahan sya ng kung ano-ano sa social media,' he said.
(This will give the nominee a chance to explain the accusations against her.)
Garcia clarified the case will not affect Drixie's nomination and possible proclamation as no formal petition was filed for the cancellation of her nomination.
'Ang isang kandidato pag nag-submit sa Comelec, ang lahat ng sina-submit nya katulad ng certificate of candidacy ay under oath. Pinanumpaan yan at therefore, kapag hindi ka nagsabi ng totoo, perjury yan and election offense. Kaya gusto natin alamin din, kaya ang kumikilos ng motu proprio ay ang Law Department,' he said.
(When candidates submit their candidacies, their documents are submitted under oath. Therefore, lying on these documents may be considered perjury or an election offense. That's why there is an investigation.)
'Technically, wala pong effect whatsoever sa nomination ng naturang number one nominee,' he added.
(Technically, this will not affect her nomination.)
It can be recalled that the Duterte Youth ranked second in the party-list race for Eleksyon 2025, garnering 2.3 million votes. However, the Comelec, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, postponed their proclamation due to their pending cases. —LDF, GMA Integrated News

Torreon, Bondoc ask Senate to probe Eleksyon 2025 'irregularities'
Defeated senatorial candidates of the Duterte-backed PDP Laban called on the Senate to probe the supposed "irregularities" during Eleksyon 2025. Israelito Torreon, lawyer of former senatorial candidate Apollo Quiboloy, and Jimmy Bondoc went to the Senate and filed a petition for the upper chamber and its concerned committees, especially the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, to investigate the supposed 'direct and blatant involvement of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the widespread and well-documented irregularities in the 2025 National, Local, and Bangsamoro Elections.' In the letter addressed to Senate President Francis 'Chiz' Escuderom, Torreon enumerated several alleged 'anomalous and irregular' instances involving Comelec during the midterm polls. Among them are the alleged mishandling of election paraphernalia, online voting irregularities, questionable procurement activities, and mismatches between ballot contents and voter receipts. 'Indeed, the 2025 Elections revealed the vulnerabilities and statutory gaps in our current automated elections system,' the letter read. Of the 12-man PDP Laban senatorial slate, five candidates won in the last elections, namely Senators Ronald dela Rosa, Bong Go, Rodante Marcoleta, Camille Villar, and Imee Marcos. "While we celebrate the victory of our peers here in the new Senate, we also cannot in good conscience turn a blind eye to the frustrating realities that diminish the faith of the Filipino People in our democratic process," added the petitioners in the letter. Comelec, meanwhile, said it welcomes the possible probe of the Senate. 'We believe a prompt and thorough Senate inquiry will greatly assist the public in understanding the gravity of these issues, and allow the legislature to explore remedial or regulatory measures to ensure that the next elections are secure, transparent, and genuinely reflective of the will of the People,' said Comelec in a statement. To recall, the PDP Laban in June also filed a petition before the Supreme Court seeking for a manual recount of senatorial votes in the 2025 elections. Comelec chairman George Garcia previously noted that the random manual audit of the automated elections indicated a 99.997% accuracy by the machines used. The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) also said it recorded a 99.909% match between the physical and transmitted election returns for the 2025 polls. —VAL, GMA Integrated News For more Eleksyon 2025 related content and updates, visit GMA News Online's Eleksyon 2025 microsite.

Macalintal asks SC to declare BSKE postponement 'unconstitutional'
Election lawyer Romulo Macalintal on Friday asked the Supreme Court (SC) to declare the law postponing the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) as unconstitutional. In a 34-page petition, Macalintal asked the Court to declare Republic Act (RA) 12232 unconstitutional, or to the extent that it pertains to the postponement of the election on December 1, 2025. This came after President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. signed into law the measure seeking to postpone the BSKE to November 2026. Macalintal also sought a temporary restraining order and/ or status quo ante order directing the respondents to cease and desist from implementing RA 12232 or to observe the status quo before its passage. He also asked the Court to direct the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to continue preparing for the December elections. The respondents are the Senate of the Philippines, the House of Representatives, the Office of the President, through Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, and the Comelec. When sought for comment, Comelec chairperson George Garcia welcomed the filing, saying that the 'cloud of uncertainty should be removed outright.' 'Early filing of petition means early determination whether to proceed or not with our preparations,' Garcia said in a statement. In his petition, Macalintal argued that the postponement is a violation of the people's right to suffrage and a violation of their right to information, affecting their constitutional right. 'Maging doon sa desisyon ng ating Korte Suprema sa kaso ng Macalintal vs. Comelec noong 2023, sinabi ng ating Korte Suprema na walang kapangyarihan ang Kongreso na mag-postpone ng halalan ng walang ano mang dahilan, mabigat na kadahilanan,' he said. (Even in the decision of our Supreme Court in the case of Macalintal vs. Comelec in 2023, our Supreme Court said that Congress has no power to postpone the election without any reason, without a grave cause.) ''Yung setting the term of office of the barangay official is not a valid ground to postpone the election. Sapagkat wala namang sinasabi doon sa desisyon ng ating Korte Suprema na kapag ikaw ay nag set ng term of office, pwede ka mag postpone ng halalan,' he added. (The setting of the term of office of the barangay official is not a valid ground to postpone the election because there is nothing in the decision of our Supreme Court that says that when you set the term of office, you can postpone the election.) —VAL, GMA Integrated News

Meanwhile, poll chief George Erwin Garcia ealier said the Comelec is continuing its preparation for the BARMM elections as they started setting up checkpoints and coordinated with the police and military to ensure public safety during the election period. Garcia also said they recommended the lifting of control over Buluan, Maguindanao del Sur and Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte as the election period starts. 'Regular na ginagawa pa rin natin tulad ng paglalagay ng ibat ibang checkpoints sa important points d'yan sa buong Bangsamoro Region,' he told reporters. (We are implementing regular security measures such as setting up of checkpoints in important areas in the Bangsamoro region.) BARMM polls The Bangsamoro polls was reset from May 12 to October 13, 2025 after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in February signed into law the measure postponing the first-ever parliamentary elections. The suspension came months after the Supreme Court (SC), in September 2024, upheld the validity of the Bangsamoro Organic Law but declared that Sulu was not part of BARMM. The Court denied motions seeking the reversal of the decision in November 2024. The SC ruling necessitated the redistribution of the seven vacated seats originally allocated to Sulu under the Bangsamoro Electoral Code. However, the Bangsamoro government has yet to issue a decision on the reallocation. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
