After DU, Allahabad University To Introduce 4-Year UG Courses
Allahabad University will launch four-year UG courses from 2025-26 under NEP 2020, offering flexible exits and honours options, similar to Delhi University's model
Allahabad Central University is all set to roll out four-year undergraduate (UG) courses from the academic session 2025-26, similar to Delhi University. The move aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and was approved in a recent Academic Council meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Sangeeta Srivastava.
As per the new curriculum framework, the undergraduate course will be spread across eight semesters, fully adopting the semester system. Students will study three subjects in the initial years, two majors and one minor. From the third year onwards, the minor subject will be dropped, allowing students to focus solely on their major subjects. In the fourth year (seventh and eighth semesters), eligible students will have the opportunity to pursue Honours in one of the two major subjects. Meritorious students will also have the option to pursue Honours with Research.
The new system offers flexibility, allowing students to exit with a certificate after one year, a diploma after two years, a degree after three years, and an honours degree after four years. Each semester will carry 20 mandatory credits, and the entire course will total 160 credits.
Moreover, the university plans to introduce over 150 two-credit skill-based and optional courses under the NEP. Earlier, Allahabad University had already implemented integrated five-year courses such as BA-LLB, BTech-MTech, and BFA. Now, in the second phase of NEP implementation, all UG programmes under the Faculties of Arts, Science, and Commerce have been restructured to align with the NEP framework.

A prolific writer, he authored over 200 academic papers and several influential books, including Marx's Revenge and The Rediscovery of India. His sharp intellect and contrarian thinking made him a respected—often provocative—voice in both scholarly and policy circles. Desai was appointed a life peer in the UK's House of Lords in 1991 and remained deeply engaged in public life, using his platform to foster stronger India–UK ties. Despite spending much of his career abroad, he retained a strong connection to India through his writing, commentary, and the establishment of the Meghnad Desai Academy of Economics in Mumbai. Awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2008, Desai remained a steadfast believer in open debate, cultural dialogue, and academic freedom. Punjab govt to bring OTS scheme for arhtiyas
Chandigarh, Jul 29 (PTI) Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian on Tuesday said the Punjab government will bring One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme to reduce the burden of interest and penalties on shops and plots allotted to the 'arhtiyas' (commission agents) in mandis (grain markets) across the state. Khudian, who is also the head of the Group of Ministers (GoM) constituted to further streamline paddy and other Kharif crops procurement to ensure a hassle-free experience for farmers, said the Punjab Mandi Board's OTS scheme is expected to benefit a large number of 'arhtiyas', enhancing their financial stability and contributing to the overall growth of the agricultural sector in Punjab. The 'arhtiyas', who were also present on the occasion, said the payment rate of loading the produce in the mandis has not been increased since many years. They demanded an increase in the payment rate to which Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Director Varinder Kumar Sharma replied that an approval with regard to the same has been given by the Government of India and the notification would be issued soon. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led Punjab government has constituted a GoM, comprising Agriculture Minister Khudian as the chairman, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar and Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal as members to ensure smooth procurement of Kharif crops, said an official statement.
