Travis Kelce 'has lost a step' claims ex-Philadelphia Eagles man... but says the NFL should still fear him
Travis Kelce has 'lost a step' according to a former Eagles linebacker - who still believes the NFL should fear him in his 13th season.
Last year, the 35-year-old had the worst statistical season since his rookie year (in which he played one game), and he was anonymous in the Chiefs' Super Bowl loss to the Eagles.
Nonetheless, former Eagles player and Fox Sports analyst Emmanuel Acho believes it's too soon to write off the Future Hall of Famer.
'I fear him for one more year,' Acho said on The Facility.
'If I'm an opponent of the Chiefs, I need to confirm that Travis Kelce has lost a step... I saw it on tape last year - Travis Kelce struggled more than ever beating man coverage.
'So, I think he's lost a step. But give me one more year to truly confirm Travis Kelce is no longer still the great Travis Kelce.'
Kelce, by all accounts, certainly seems determined to return with a vengeance after Kansas City's 40-22 loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler previously reported that the tight end had lost a whopping 25 pounds this offseason, while his quarterback and good friend Patrick Mahomes gushed about his approach during OTAs.
'If it's the last ride, you would never know,' Mahomes said.
'I mean, the way he's talking about football, the way he's talking about working and trying to be even better this year than he was last year.
'He doesn't seem like a guy that, it's his last ride, like he's tired of the job. He's in here, he's working and I know his body feels good, I think it feels better than even last year before going into last season.'
Following the loss to Philly, Kelce took his time to decide whether or not to return for another NFL season.
He ultimately decided against retiring as he spoke of his desire to perform better throughout the season.
'I don't think it was my best outing. I think I let my guys down in a lot more moments than I helped them, especially if you look at my track record and how I've been in years past,' he said on his New Heights podcast.
'I want to give it a good run. I've got a bad taste in my mouth on how I ended the year and how well I was playing and how accountable I was for the people around me. I love so many people in Kansas City, both in that facility and the community and it's home for me now.
'I don't want to leave that life yet. I put in a lot of hard work and focus into being the best I can be for Kansas City and last year it didn't end well for us. I feel there's a responsibility in me to play out the contract I initially signed to give the organization everything that I've got and that's what I'm going to do man.'
Kelce signed a two-year, $34.25million contract - with $17m guaranteed - back in April 2024.
After reporting to OTAs last month, he skipped voluntary team workouts as he was seen spending some time in Florida.

Club World Cup predictions: Wednesday group-stage tips and odds
Our expert has tips for all four of Wednesday's Club World Cup matches, including Manchester City's opener in Group G against Moroccan outfit Wydad in Philadelphia (kick-off, 5pm BST). He also looks ahead to Real Madrid's clash with Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal, Pachuca against Salzburg and a potential mismatch between Al Ain and Juventus. Odds courtesy of Betano. Manchester City City vs Wydad (Philadelphia, 5pm BST) The Club World Cup offers Manchester City a shot at redemption after a challenging 2024-25 season and Pep Guardiola's side could burst out of the blocks in their opener against the Moroccan side. City have spent £116 million on classy midfielders Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki, as well as flying wing-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, this summer, and they can be expected to take this tournament seriously. This is one of the bigger mismatches in the first round of group games with Wydad down in 383rd in the Opta World Power Rankings, having endured an underwhelming campaign of their own. Rain is forecast in Philadelphia, so there is less chance of the heat stifling City, who are worth a bet to score over 1.5 goals in the first half at 21/20, having scored more first-half goals (41) than any other side in last term's Premier League. Real Madrid vs Al-Hilal (Miami, 8pm BST) There will be plenty of attacking quality on show in this game – from Kylian Mbappe to Aleksandar Mitrovic – but it is former Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic who is an appealing bet to have 2+ shots at 4/5. Milinkovic-Savic could occupy a deeper role under new head coach Simone Inzaghi but he loves getting forward and having a crack at goal, having ranked 18th for shots in the Saudi Pro League last season with an average of 2.61 per game. He also netted 12 goals and should have the chance to take aim given that Real Madrid allowed 10.7 shots per game in La Liga last season and will still be finding their feet under new boss Xabi Alonso. Pachuca vs Salzburg (Cincinnati, 11pm BST) Mexican side Pachuca could be up against it in Group H and they should be opposed in their opener against Red Bull Salzburg, who are 108 places above them in the Opta World Power Rankings. Pachuca finished 16th in last season's Torneo Apertura in Liga MX, winning just three of 17 matches, before scrambling to finish eighth in the Torneo Clausura. Head coach Jaime Lozano has been in charge for just a couple of weeks and they could be out of their depth against Salzburg, who finished the Austrian Bundesliga season with three wins in their last four games, so back them in the draw no bet market at 31/40. Al Ain vs Juventus (Washington DC, 2am Thursday BST) A Juventus win to nil looks a straightforward but value selection at 5/6 when the Turin giants take on Al Ain in their first match at the Club World Cup. The fact Al Ain had three managers during the 2024-25 season, going from Hernan Crespo to Leonardo Jardim to Vladimir Ivic, tells you all you need to know about their recent struggles. They finished a disappointing fifth in the UAE Pro League last term and it is hard to see them even laying a glove on Italian powerhouses Juventus, who placed fourth in Serie A last season, keeping 17 clean sheets in the process.

Manchester City vs Wydad predictions: Club World Cup tips and odds
Our expert has three tips for Wednesday's Club World Cup match between Manchester City and Wydad at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (kick-off, 5pm BST). We think City can make a fast start against their Moroccan opponents. Man City vs Wydad tips City to score over 1.5 goals in first half @ Evs with Paddy Power Erling Haaland and Tijjani Reijnders to combine for 4 or more shots on target @ 17/20 with Paddy Power Jamal Harkass to be carded @ 2/1 with Paddy Power Odds courtesy of Paddy Power Correct at the time of publication and subject to change. Already a Paddy Power member? Check out more free bets from the best betting sites, reviewed by our experts. City can make a flying start Manchester City could hardly have asked for a better game to kick off their Club World Cup campaign and they could be in the goals against Moroccan side Wydad. New signings Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki, who may both start, will want to make an impact and City are worth a bet to score at least a couple of first-half goals at evens with Paddy Power. They racked up 41 first-half goals in the Premier League last season – the most in the division – and a forecast of rain means they should not be worn down too much by the heat in Philadelphia. Haaland and Reijnders to rack up shots There is little value available in the shots markets, but an intriguing wager at 17/20 is Erling Haaland and Reijnders to have four or more shots on target between them. Haaland, City's elected penalty taker, has scored in his last three games for club and country, and last season he averaged 3.5 shots per game in the Premier League and 4.3 in the Champions League. As for Reijnders, he could play slightly deeper in the City system than he did at Milan but he can nonetheless be an attacking threat. The Dutchman netted 10 Serie A goals last season, averaging 2.22 shots per game and 0.81 shots on target per match. Caution on the cards for Harkass Match referee Ramon Abatti Abel has dished out 37 yellow cards in just eight matches in Brazil's Serie A this year, so it could be worth looking at Wydad players to be carded given they are likely to see little of the ball. At 2/1, the Wydad centre-back Jamal Harkass looks a good bet to go into the book. He received eight yellow cards in 26 appearances in the 2024-25 Botola Pro season and he will have his hands full with Haaland here. Man City vs Wydad odds All odds courtesy of Paddy Power. Travelers Championship 2025 betting tips, free bets and latest golf odds
It is a surprise to see Rory McIlroy teeing it up for the third week in a row at this week's Travelers Championship after his grouchy, sub-standard performance at the US Open. But after barely making the cut - and announcing he would not have been too upset if head missed out - McIlroy's final round 67 seemed to lift the gloom. It also earned him a top twenty finish. And he probably felt that after skipping the last two $20million Signature events on the PGA Tour, missing the final one as well would not go down too well. The fact that McIlroy did opt out of the Travelers last year suggests this is not one of his favourite events, even though he has not finished outside the top twenty at TPC River Highlands in five starts. That probably explains why he is a 12-1 shot this week. I tend to agree with the bookmakers' view that we are unlikely to see the best of him until he is back on European soil, in the build-up to next month's Open. Travelers Championship betting tips Scottie Scheffler is the defending champion, and a short-priced favourite at 11-4. But he was well below his best at Oakmont, and had to dig really deep for a share of seventh. Grinding is not the name of the game at the River Highlands. It is an easy par 70 at well short of 7,000 yards, and it tends to be a birdie-fest - Jim Furyk shot a PGA Tour record 58 here a few years ago, and Cameron Young shot 59 last year. Scheffler finished 22 under par a year ago, just a shot adrift of Keegan Bradley's tournament record. But if the world No 1 putts the way he did at Oakmont, he is not going to get near that number. But Xander Schauffele might. The world No 3 began to look like the player who captured two Majors last year with an improved showing at Oakmont. He has a great record in this event, including a victory in 2022. At 16-1 he represents the best value at the top end of the market, and I think previous form here should count for plenty when trying to identify the other likely contenders. Keegan Bradley is another former champion, and is the leading all-time prize money winner here. He did not get beaten up as badly as some at Oakmont, and at 35-1 he has to come into the equation. Young's sub-60 score a year ago came in the third round - but he was so far off the pace that he could only just sneak into the top ten, despite following up with a closing 66. Young also looked like a player returning to form when he finished tied fourth in the US Open, closing with a level par 70. He is still chasing a first PGA Tour win, but 45-1 still seems fairly generous. Brian Harman is also a course specialist - sort of. He is third in the all-time money list here, although he has yet to win the event. He battled hard at Oakmont - a course totally unsuited to his game - and is worth a small interest at 66-1. The duo who fought out the finish at Oakmont, JJ Spaun and Robert MacIntyre, both tee it up again in an event that features 45 of the top fifty players in the world. They could both be forgiven a bit of a comedown after their US Open exertions. So I would prefer small stakes on a couple of other long priced contenders. Akshay Bhatia was fifth here last year and is available at 70-1, while there is more to come from 90-1 chance Andrew Novak. ********************************************************** The other big event taking place this week is the Women's PGA Championship, at PGA Frisco in Texas - a new venue for this Major. It may come as another shock not to see Nelly Korda's name at the top of the market. But 8-1 favourite Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand is proving ultra-consistent this year, and is threatening to knock the American off the top of the world rankings. Korda is 9-1 second best, but I'm reluctant to take single figures at a course that is an unknown factor. So the players who stand out are 20-1 shot Haeran Ryu - the best tee to green player on the LPGA Tour - and Rio Takeda, already a Major winner this year despite being a relative rookie at this level. Takeda can be backed at 33-1. Angel Yin and Mao Saigo are around the same price, and both are in good form.
