Officials including Joint Collector Shiv Narayan Sharma, DRO A Malola, Forest Settlement Officer G Ramakrishna Reddy, Deputy Collectors Rammohan and Mallikarjuna, and various department heads participated in the programme. A total of 364 petitions were received. Speaking at the event, Collector Dr Vinod Kumar emphasized that officials must not only resolve petitions but also conduct field inspections for accurate solutions. He noted that 70-80% of the petiti pal issues. The Collector mentioned that petitions received during his field visits and at his chamber in the district headquarters are also forwarded to the PGRS Tehsildar. A new system is now in place to identify repeated petitions using the Aadhaar number of applicants, with prior submissions being tracked via pink paper printouts.
He further instructed that district officials must visit the field at least once a week and provide high-quality solutions. PGRS endorsements must be issued and uploaded on the PGRS website. These should then be printed, posted, and shared via WhatsApp to applicants and relevant village-level officials. Only frequently used phone numbers should be collected at the time of petition submission. During the event, local journalists submitted a petition to the Collector requesting the establishment of a Press Club in Tadipatri, allocation of housing plots, and free education for their children. Prominent attendees included Anantapur RDO Keshava Naidu, ZP Deputy CEORamasubbaiah, DCO Arunakumari, RTC RM Sumanth, DM&HO Dr. E.B. Devi, PD Housing Shailaja, CPO Ashok Kumar, Survey AD Rupal Naik, and officials from various departments such as Health, Revenue, Education, ICDS, DWMA, Mines, BC Welfare, andMunicipal Administration.

Legal document hurdle for Jagatsinghpur farmers ahead of kharif procurement
JAGATSINGHPUR: The state government's farmer registration drive for paddy procurement season has hit roadblocks in Jagatsinghpur district, amid reports of alleged harassment over legal documents. The government has made it mandatory for all registered farmers to link their bank accounts with Aadhaar card and complete the e-KYC process. The registration, which began on July 19, will continue until August 20. Farmers have been asked to complete the process through their respective PACS. However, secretaries of several PACS in the district have reportedly asked farmers to submit hereditary (genealogical) lists, naming all legal heirs mentioned in land records and documents that farmers are being asked to obtain from local RIs. This has led to long queues at RI offices and allegations of bribes being demanded for issuing the certificates. In cases where the landowner has passed away, PACS officials have refused to accept applications from legal heirs if their names are not reflected in official land documents, even when written consent from all co-heirs is provided, as allowed by rules. Farmers say the insistence on hereditary lists is unnecessary and has led to delays and stress, prompting many to opt out of the process entirely. During the 2024-25 procurement season, 47,736 farmers had registered in Jagatsinghpur district and 45,642 sold their produce. For the ongoing 2025-26 season, over 13,000 farmers have registered so far in the district, raising concerns as the deadline approaches. Activists from the Nab Nirman Krushak Sangathan alleged that thousands of farmers are being harassed and excluded from the procurement system. They warned of intensified protests if immediate corrective steps are not taken. Assistant registrar of Cooperative Societies Pravat Satpathy said, 'Awareness drives and training programmes are underway. Strict action will be taken against any PACS secretary found guilty of misconduct.'

Vijayawada: Minister for mines, geology, and excise Kollu Ravindra announced that the state government has allocated Rs 7,557 crore in the annual budget for the welfare of tribals. He stressed the importance of integrating tribals into the mainstream and raising awareness about their rights and development opportunities. Ravindra was speaking as the chief guest at the International Indigenous People's Day programme, organised by the tribal welfare department at the Meekosam Conference Hall in Machilipatnam on Saturday. He noted that the United Nations has been observing August 9 as World Tribal Day since 1994, and under the directives of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the event is being marked in all districts of the state. The minister said that indigenous people across 90 countries are engaged in diverse professions and face unique challenges. The objective of celebrating this day, he emphasised, is to promote awareness, empowerment, and progress among these communities. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to tribal welfare through various schemes and urged tribal leaders to encourage their people to overcome hesitation and embrace new opportunities. Highlighting issues in remote tribal areas, Ravindra said lack of transportation and Naxal-related disturbances often affect development. He called for fresh thinking to overcome backwardness and acknowledged the historic contributions of tribals to the freedom struggle, citing their support to Alluri Sitarama Raju. He also recalled Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's provision of 7 per cent reservation for Scheduled Tribes in legislative bodies and appealed to them to fully utilise government initiatives. District SP R Gangadhar Rao stressed the need for tribals to be aware of their constitutional rights. He assured that strict legal action would be taken against any atrocities on STs and that police services are available 24/7 for their protection. District In-charge collector Geethanjali Sharma said 20 Aadhaar enrollment kits have been delivered for 100% Aadhaar coverage in ST colonies. She pointed out that the district's Tribal Welfare Hostel, despite having 300 seats, currently accommodates only 90 students, urging greater participation in education. The programme concluded with floral tributes to tribal icons, including Ekalavya and Alluri Sitarama Raju.

Chalavadi Mahasabha alleges errors in internal reservation report, seeks review
Koppal: The Karnataka State Chalavadi Mahasabha has raised serious objections to the internal reservation report submitted by Justice Nagamohan Das, who heads the Internal Reservation Single Member Inquiry Commission, on Aug 4. The survey, conducted from May 5 to July 6, 2025, encompassed 1.1 crore individuals across 27.2 lakh families. These families were categorised into five groups, with many being identified as the most backward. In a letter addressed to chief minister Siddaramaiah and minister HC Mahadevappa, retired IAS officer and mahasabha president Siddaiah alleged that the report misclassified Paraiya and Paravan castes, part of the Scheduled Caste (SC) right-hand community, under the left-hand community. Moreover, several other right-hand communities were reportedly moved to the most backward castes category, allegedly reducing their population share. According to the commission's report, the reservation quotas were allocated as follows: 1% for the left-hand group, 6% for the right-hand group, 5% for Banjara, Bhovi, Korama, Koracha, and non-untouchable castes, and 1% for non-caste groups like Adi Karnataka, Adi Dravida, and Adi Andhra. However, the mahasabha claimed that the report submitted by Justice Nagamohan Das was unscientific and biased. In its letter, the Chalavadi Mahasabha highlighted procedural flaws made by the commission. It pointed out that during the survey, most enumerators were instructed to use a specific app for data entry, but were not provided tablets. Later, the app was removed from their devices on commission's request, resulting in the deletion of thousands of survey entries. No re-surveys were conducted for these families, it said. Furthermore, the mahasabha claimed that the abrupt shift in methodology — from ration card-based to Aadhaar-based — was flawed. A request to include families with multiple children lacking Aadhaar cards led to a policy permitting four individuals per Aadhaar card. By then, approximately eight lakh families were surveyed, excluding at least eight lakh children, with no corrective steps taken, it alleged. The mahasabha also accused the commission of overlooking the issue of enumerators not having identity cards, leading to unverified surveys and incomplete coverage of Scheduled Caste populations. Additionally, they alleged that educated individuals entered their castes as Adi-Karnataka, Adi-Dravida, and Adi-Andhra without mentioning their original castes. The commission, according to the Maha Sabha, did not address these discrepancies, instead assigned a blanket 1% reservation to these groups, deeming it "unscientific and illegal". The commission understated the population growth rate of the Chalavadi community. The actual population stands at 1.47 crore, but the commission pegged it at only 1.16 crore, according to Siddaiah. In light of these alleged inaccuracies, the mahasabha has called for the formation of a cabinet subcommittee to reassess and correct the reservation allocations to ensure justice for all communities.
