FS1's Colin Cowherd issues bizarre take on Chiefs future, 'the dynasty part is over'
Just as it did for the New England Patriots in the 2000s and 2010s, Chiefs fatigue is beginning to set in not just for opposing fans, but also high-profile members of the media.
On Thursday, FS1's Colin Cowherd spoke about Kansas City's upcoming season on his show The Herd and issued a bizarre statement about the trajectory of Mahomes and the Chiefs ahead of the team's preseason exhibition against the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday, August 9.
Take a look at what the daytime host had to say in this video, which was posted to Twitter by The Herd's official account:
Cowherd is known for his hot takes and outlandish opinions, so fans should certainly take his words with a grain of salt.
Whether or not Kansas City's dynasty is truly coming to an end remains to be seen, but if the videos coming out of Chiefs training camp are any indication, the reigning AFC champions have more wind in their sails than Cowherd thinks.

Texans to sign Jalen Mills
The Texans are adding some veteran help to their secondary in the wake of safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson's knee injury. Agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey told ESPN that their client Jalen Mills will sign with the AFC South club. Mills was most recently a member of the Jets' defensive backfield. Mills had 44 tackles, an interception, and a forced fumble in nine games for the Jets. He also played three seasons with the Patriots and five seasons with the Eagles after entering the league as a 2016 seventh-round pick in Philadelphia. Gardner-Johnson avoided a torn ACL, but it is unclear when he'll be able to return. Safety Jimmie Ward is also dealing with legal issues that could affect his availability during the regular season.

Baylor loses RB Dawson Pendergrass to injury ahead of season opener vs. Auburn
The Baylor Bears suffered a major injury blow before their season opener against the Auburn Tigers later this month. reports that Baylor running back Dawson Pendergrass has sustained a season-ending foot injury three weeks before the Bears begin the 2025 season against Auburn. Baylor head coach Dave Aranda called the injury a "misfortune" and shared that Pendergrass' injury will require surgery. Pendergrass was projected to be the No. 2 back in Baylor's offense this season, but is considered to be a "1-2 punch" alongside the assumed starter Bryson Washington. The duo combined to rush for 1,699 yards last season with 18 touchdowns. Individually, Pendergrass added 671 yards and six scores to the total. According to Pro Football Focus data, Pendergrass gained 399 yards after contact last season while boosting 14 carries of over 10 yards, and 33 touches resulting in first downs. Washington will remain the Bears' projected starting running back. Still, it is assumed that freshman Caden Knighten and redshirt freshman Joseph Dodds will pick up the production that Pendergrass was expected to carry this season. Knighten was the No. 30 running back of the 2025 recruiting cycle, and Dodds redshirted last season after suffering an injury of his own. Baylor lost a pair of running backs, Dominic Richardson and Richard Reese, to the transfer portal last offseason, the duo each produced over 1,000 yards during their time in Waco. Aranda and the Bears will have just under three weeks to adjust their offensive game plan before taking the field for the first time in 2025. Auburn and Baylor will square off on Friday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. CT. Chiefs Target Tyquan Thornton, A Former Patriots Second Rounder, Early In Preseason Loss
On the very first pass in Week One of the preseason, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes targeted wide receiver Tyquan Thornton, and the fourth-year receiver drew a key pass interference penalty against rookie second-round pick Will Johnson of the Arizona Cardinals. Then, on the Chiefs' second drive of the Cardinals' 20-17 victory — and Kansas City's sixth offensive play — Thornton gained 15 yards against Budda Baker, a seven-time Pro Bowler. 'Thornton is doing a nice job,' Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said. Indeed, Thornton is an intriguing player. Though he was mostly a bust with the New England Patriots — with just 39 receptions during his three years in the NFL — he was a second-round pick in 2022 and has impressed during organized team activities and training camp with the Chiefs this year. A few days after the Patriots waived him, the Chiefs signed Thornton to their practice squad on Nov. 19, 2024. Then, Thornton signed a one-year, $1,1 million contract with the Chiefs during the 2025 offseason, citing Mahomes, Reid and the team's strong wide receiver room. That room includes the leader of the wide receivers, JuJu Smith-Schuster, who played with Thornton in New England in 2023. The two receivers remain close and often catch passes together after practice. 'We got that tight bond,' Thornton said. 'That's my guy.' Another former Patriots teammate on the Chiefs is Bailey Zappe, the quarterback who played with Thornton in 2022 and 2023. On a 1st-and-10 play in the second quarter vs. the Cardinals, Zappe, who struggled all game, overthrew Thornton, missing him on a deep pass. Though they didn't connect on that one, the Chiefs have made resurrecting their deep passing game a priority this offseason and hope the speedy Thornton, who ran a 4.28 in the 40-yard dash at the 2022 NFL Combine, can bolster that. He also can help on special teams. Dave Toub, the respected special teams coordinator, said Thornton is the team's best gunner, a position that lines up on the outside and is tasked with taking down the returner. Thornton also was the first Chiefs player to line up as the punt returner on Saturday. 'He's getting a lot of reps everywhere,' Toub said. Thornton attributes his special team prowess to learning from Matthew Slater, a 10-time Pro Bowler on special teams and his Patriots teammate in 2023 and 2024. Though Thornton's ability on that unit helps his chances of making the roster, competition among the Chiefs wide receivers remains fierce. And Jason Brownlee, who is in his second season with the Chiefs and originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets in 2023, certainly threw his hat into the ring. He caught Mahomes' lone touchdown pass of the game — Mahomes had a remarkable and unique line of 1-for-1 for one yard and one touchdown in one minute of action — as he beat cornerback Max Melton on a fade route. 'A nice catch there,' Reid said, 'he's played well.' Brownlee also drew an illegal contact on rookie Denzel Burke on a 3rd and 9 in the second quarter, resulting in a first down in the second quarter — well after Mahomes left the game. That franchise quarterback has liked Thornton since the Chiefs signed him last year. '(He has) a ton of big-play ability,' Mahomes said.
