Jaipur: 'Surya Namaskar', 'Makar Sankranti', Pushkar fair, blue pottery, other traditional dance, art and medicines are among the topics that are covered by the new textbooks for classes 1-5 by the state's school education department as part of incorporating the 'Indian Knowledge System', officials said Wednesday.

Under the environmental studies curriculum, class 4 students will be taught 12 postures of 'Surya Namaskar'. They will also learn about fairs, festivals, and arts of Rajasthan, such as the Pushkar fair, festivals like 'Gangaur', 'Hariyali Teej', and the desert festival. Artisanal works like blue pottery, 'Bandhej', and 'Leheriya' will also be taught.
In class 5, students will learn about different types of 'Pranayam' (breathing exercise), such as 'Bhastrika', 'Anulom Vilom', 'Kapalbharti', and 'Bhamri'.
They will be taught the state's dance forms such as 'Ghoomar' and 'Kalbeliya'. Local medicines and traditional treatment methods, like usage of 'neem', aloe vera, 'tulsi', 'amla', and 'ashwagandha', will also be taught.
The focus of the new curriculum is on competency-based learning, with time allocated, from 30 minutes to one hour, for each topic depending on the class and learning level of students, officials said.
"In all textbooks, the focus is on activity and experience-based learning, along with toy-based learning, to make education fun for students. Another priority is to include 21st century skills like logical reasoning, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and creative development. Our aim is to develop an interest for education in the child, which will act as self motivation for them to attend classes in school," said a senior official of the Rajasthan State Council of Educational Research & Training (RSCERT).

After every five chapters in the new textbooks, an activity-based learning assignment has been added. For example, to teach shapes such as circles or rectangles, poems have been cited in the mathematics textbook for class 2, explaining the shape with examples. A note for teachers in the chapter mentions that shapes being taught should be shown to students from the surroundings.
The chapters have been written in a theme-based manner and not by providing direct information, to make them engaging for students, officials said.

7-minutes of this workout has proven to be 40% more powerful than High Intensity Interval Training for body transformation

When it comes to fast, efficient workouts, everyone's mind goes to High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) as the holy grail. But new findings are replacing that thought. Researchers now propose that a little-known alternative, Sprint Interval Training (SIT), may be even more potent with greater fat loss, greater muscle gain, and takes much less time. It sounds too good to be true. But the statistics prove it. A peer-reviewed article published in Run Repeat, titled 'Sprint Interval Training: Burn 40% More Fat Than HIIT in 60% Less Time,' concludes that, Sprint Interval Training (SIT) is significantly more effective than HIIT or traditional cardio for fat loss and muscle gain, while requiring much less time. How? Read on to know more! SIT vs. HIIT: The real difference Both SIT and HIIT fall under the umbrella of high-effort training. The difference lies in the intensity and duration. HIIT typically involves short bursts at about 70–90% of max effort for 30 seconds to 4 minutes, followed by active recovery. SIT pushes the body to 100% max effort, but for even shorter periods, i.e, usually 20 to 30 seconds, with longer rest in between. This tiny variation in form creates a huge variation in result. What does the research say A review of 75 studies that contrasted Sprint Interval Training (SIT), High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), and Moderate-Intensity Continuous Training (MICT) produced astonishing findings: SIT created more than 90% more fat loss than MICT. It was also 39.6% better at lessening body fat than HIIT. On average, SIT workouts took 60–70% less time, but produced the highest outcomes. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Finger Shape Says a Lot About Your Personality, Read Now Tips and Tricks Undo In real-life terms, in terms of time commitment: SIT volunteers trained -390 minutes over 9–10 weeks HIIT took -995 minutes MICT took -1350 minutes Just 7 minutes a session, 3 times a week, for SIT and still performed higher than longer routines. What goes on in those 7 minutes? Here is a typical SIT workout: Warm-up: 2–3 minutes of gentle movement Sprint rounds: 3-6 rounds of 20–30 seconds maximum effort Rest intervals: 2–4 minutes walking or complete rest between sprints Cooldown: 1–2 minutes to bring the heart rate back to resting level Although the work period is brief, the physiological effect is tremendous. Sprint intervals ignite fast-twitch muscle fibers, stimulate growth hormone release, enhance fat burning, and enhance post-workout calorie burning. The body burns calories for hours after the workout is completed and it is a process referred to as excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC). Why it works SIT's success relies on trying your best. In contrast to HIIT or MICT, it recruits the entire range of muscle fibers, specifically those responsible for explosive power. This provokes a more intense metabolic response, enhances insulin sensitivity, and speeds up fat breakdown. It also: Raises levels of testosterone and growth hormone Raises VO2 max (a metric of cardiovascular capacity) Enhances mitochondrial efficiency, or the cells become more efficient at utilizing energy And it accomplishes all this without long sessions or heavy weights. Who all can try it SIT is scalable and that's part of why it's gaining popularity. A beginner can begin with: Just 2 sprints lasting 20 seconds each and 3 to 4 minutes rest between rounds. Gradually, one can progress to 6–8 sprints. The mantra is quality over quantity. Each sprint should be an all-out effort. Note: Patients with existing heart or joint problems should see their doctor beforehand. Because SIT is so strenuous, it places a greater burden on the cardiovascular system. Can it build muscle too? Yes, especially in the legs, glutes, and core. Sprinting places a high mechanical stress on the muscles, which causes muscle sparing and, in some instances, even lean muscle growth. This also makes SIT a better choice for those who prefer a lean, athletic physique over bulk.

Emotional strength as important as physical strength for men: Yoga expert Saurabh Bothra shares 7 healthy habits

Men often grow up being reminded to 'toughen up' whenever emotions surface. But expressing emotions needs to be normalized, and emotional strength must be as prioritized as physical strength, says yoga expert Saurabh Bothra. With rising burnout and the constant pressure of comparison, even men are turning to mind-body practices like yoga, breathwork, and therapy, not for trends, but for tangible results like better focus, clarity and sleep. The expert suggests healthy habits to build emotional strength in men, to avoid stress, anxiety and depression. A man with emotional strength may have better focus, clarity and healthier relationships.(Freepik) Why emotional strength can't be optional anymore Are you someone who locks yourself up in the 'never cry, handle problems alone, always appear in control' box associated with men? Silence can kill, says Bothra, pointing out statistics that in India, the male suicide rate stands at 14.2 per 100,000. "Unchecked distress bleeds into relationships and the workplace. Irritability, withdrawal, and reckless coping behaviours strain marriages, derail careers, and model unhealthy habits for the next generation. Emotional fitness flips that script," Bothra tells Health Shots. Habits to build emotional strength The goal of building these emotional strength habits is to develop the ability to notice, name, and regulate feelings without getting hijacked by them. The following practices cover body, mind, and community, and none require dramatic lifestyle overhauls, says Bothra. 1. Breath‑led movement Spend ten minutes each morning in slow, deliberate motion. A gentle Surya Namaskar or sun salutation sequence blends stretching with diaphragmatic breathing, down‑regulates the nervous system, and lubricates joints before the day's demands hit. No fancy gear, studio, or chanting required. 2. Name the emotion to tame it Keep a pocket notebook or phone note where you jot a one‑word check‑in three times daily — angry, restless, content, overwhelmed. Labeling converts vague discomfort into a manageable data point. Over weeks, patterns emerge, showing who or what reliably pushes buttons. That awareness is half the battle won. 3. Keep taking micro-breaks Treat the brain like a muscle that needs rest between sets. Schedule two five‑minute breaks in the workday to step outside, stretch, or practise box breathing (inhale‑hold‑exhale‑hold, four counts each). Short, regular resets beat one long vacation that never arrives. 4. Brotherhood, not bravado Statistics say 40 percent of Indian men still never discuss mental health. Break the stalemate by inviting a friend for coffee and opening with a simple 'I've been feeling weird lately, you ever get that?' Vulnerability given is often vulnerability returned. If circles of trust are scarce, structured men's groups — both in‑person and online — provide guided sharing without judgment. 5. Take professional help Therapy is not a last resort. It is coaching for the mind. A few sessions can teach evidence‑based techniques like cognitive reframing or acceptance and commitment strategies. Pairing this with movement‑oriented disciplines such as yoga, martial arts, or even mindful running produces a feedback loop: body calms mind, and an organised mind directs the body with purpose. 6. Learn to laugh and smile more Seek moments that genuinely make you laugh - be it a funny video, playful banter, or nostalgic memories. Smiling and laughing release endorphins, lower stress and remind you that joy too, is a skill worth practising. 7. Make habits stick Emotional fitness is about being more in control. It's the difference between reacting on impulse and responding with intention. That kind of resilience doesn't come from suppressing emotion or pushing through blindly. It comes from knowing what's happening inside you and learning how to work with it. Practices like conscious breathwork and simple asanas help build that internal awareness. You begin to notice what sets you off, what grounds you, and how to return to balance without needing to escape. Over time, this becomes less of a routine and more of a mindset. For any man who wants to show up fully for his work, his people, and himself, that mindset changes everything.
