Ranvir Shorey was reacting to a news clip about a group of men, reportedly MNS workers, assaulting a shop owner for refusing to speak in Marathi on Tuesday in the Bhayander area of Maharashtra's Thane.
The viral video showed that the men slapped the shop owner several times after he was asked, 'Which language is spoken in the state?'
The shop owner's response, who was talking in Hindi, that 'all languages' infuriated the men who had visited his shop to buy food, as reported by PTI.
The incident reportedly occurred shortly after the Maharashtra government withdrew its orders on implementing the three-language policy in the state, which led to the opposition describing it as a 'Hindi imposition'.
Following the Mira Road incident, MNS workers allegedly assaulted a man in Pune's Vanaz area for posting objectionable content against party chief Raj Thackeray on social media.
According to a Pune Times Mirror report, the man, identified as Kedar Soman, was tracked down by the MNS workers after he shared a post on social media criticising Raj Thackeray.
He was allegedly beaten up by the MNS workers and later handed over to the police. The incident caused temporary tension in the area, prompting police intervention.
Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam also reacted to MNS workers slapping the shopkeeper and said that laws will be enforced if anyone disrespects the language in the state.
'In Maharashtra, you have to speak Marathi. If you don't know Marathi, your attitude shouldn't be that you won't speak Marathi... If anyone disrespects Marathi in Maharashtra, we will enforce our laws,' Kadam told ANI.

CM office, Raj Bhawan submit separate stands to J&K High Court on Gulmarg lease issue
The J&K Chief Minister's office and the Raj Bhawan on Tuesday (August12, 2025) submitted two separate positions to the J&K High Court that was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on Gulmarg, a hill resort in north Kashmir that attracts high-end tourists to the Valley round-the-year. The Division Bench, comprising J&K Chief Justice Arun Palli and justice Rajnesh Oswal, was informed by Senior Additional Advocate General Mohsin-ul-Showkat Qadri that there were two separate replies from the Chief Minister's office and the Lieutenant Governor's office. These were produced before the court in a sealed cover. The court was hearing the PIL on environmental concerns of Gulmarg and the recent eviction of owners of the Nedou's Hotel in Gulmarg after 137 years of possession. Justice Palli and Justice Oswal, while taking note of the two separate replies, decided to hear the case again on August 28, 2025. However, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed displeasure over the Raj Bhawan's move. Talking to The Hindu, Mr. Abdullah said, 'Until recently the L-G has continued to maintain that he only has responsibility for security and Law and Order. Now suddenly he's got involved in this. It's unfortunate that the elected government is sought to be undermined by the unelected government'. Around 55 hotels out of 59 could go under the hammer because of the lack of lease extensions in Gulmarg. The J&K Land Grant Rules-2022, which replaced the J&K Land Grants Rules-1960, introduced by the L-G in 2022 barred extension in case of lease expiry. The L-G administration had asked the outgoing lease holders to evict properties or else face evictions under the new rules. However, the current land holders termed these rules 'exclusive to J&K where the first right to lease-holders has not been granted and revised rates negotiated'. Many leaseholders have already challenged the new rules before the court. During the L-G rule, it was decided that an expert committee will enlist all properties where lease had ended and will be e-auctioned afresh. For the first time, the earlier bar that only locals could apply for lease of land has been done away with. The new rules instead open bidding to 'any person legally competent under Section 11 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872.' In the past, no land in Gulmarg was granted on lease to any person who was not a permanent resident of the erstwhile state of J&K.

'Factual accuracy, respectful language and a positive outlook are essential for guiding society in the right direction,' he said. The workshop, organised by the Vidhan Sabha, aimed to familiarise journalists with legislative procedures, parliamentary traditions and digital platforms. Kalyan also referred to the 'One Nation, One Legislature' concept and the House's digital transition, stressing the media's role in making India a developed nation by 2047. 'There is no limit to learning. No matter how high we reach, there is always room for improvement and learning,' Kalyan said. Former Haryana chief secretary Keshni Anand Arora said diligence, positive thinking and inner happiness are keys to success, urging journalists to work with optimism despite challenges. She said that having a clear goal in life is essential. 'Without a goal, one is like a ship without direction,' she said, noting that the media faces many challenges. PRS Legislative Research's Chakshu Roy cautioned that covering expunged remarks or unpublished documents from the House amounts to a breach of privilege. Haryana Sahitya and Sanskriti Academy director Chander Trikha stressed that credibility must remain intact despite challenges, even as Panjab University's Gurmeet Singh, a professor in the Hindi department, advised journalists to strengthen their technical knowledge.

Maharashtra Civic Polls: Raj Thackeray's Party Demands Ballot Paper Voting
Mumbai: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Tuesday joined the Opposition demand to hold the upcoming civic body polls in the state using ballot papers. A delegation of MNS leaders also met the State Election Commissioner with a list of demands, which included use of VVPATs (voter verifiable paper audit trails), a method of providing feedback to voters who use an electronic voting machine. "It appears there is a problem in electoral rolls. There was also an issue of use of VVPATs," MNS leader Shirish Sawant told reporters. MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar said people think democracy is in "danger". "What is the issue in holding polls using ballot papers? If you (the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti coalition) think you will come to power irrespective of the Thackeray cousins (Raj and Uddhav) coming together, then hold polls using ballot papers," Mr Nandgaonkar demanded. The Shiv Sena (UBT), too, has been demanding holding elections using ballot papers instead of electronic voting machines (EVMs).
