She Paid Extra for a Big Driveway. Now Her Neighbors' Builders Are Taking It Over
NEED TO KNOW
A woman says her neighbors' builders park five cars and a flatbed truck in their shared driveway from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
She claims a porta potty placed against her garage wall causes strong odors in warm weather
Despite a legal covenant forbidding obstructions, she says her neighbors refuse to make changes
A woman seeks advice from the Reddit community after a long and frustrating battle over the use of her shared driveway. She explains that the large driveway, which provides access to both her house and her neighbors' home, was one of the main reasons she purchased her property.
'The driveway is one of the reasons that we bought the house (at a hefty premium) because we stupidly thought that no one could possibly be unreasonable enough to cause significant obstruction,' she writes. She says she never imagined it would turn into a daily source of stress.
According to her, the trouble starts when new neighbors announce they will be building an extension. 'They will tell the builders 'not to block the driveway' fine, we say, shouldn't be an issue,' she recalls. The neighbors also inform her that building materials will be stored on a grassy area, which initially seems reasonable enough.
But things quickly take a turn. She claims the builders place 'a portapotty up against our garage wall that makes the garage smell like pee and poop whenever the temperature is warm.' In addition, she says the crew arrives daily with 'no less than 5 cars & a large flatbed truck' that remain parked on the shared driveway from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
She says she has repeatedly asked the builders to be more considerate. 'They tend to park with flatbed at the entrance to the site diagonally across half of my driveway stopping me from being able to turn around and back onto my (double) drive,' she explains. If another delivery shows up during this time, she says, 'it blocks the whole area completely.'
The woman points out that their shared driveway is governed by a legal agreement. 'There is a deed of covenant that governs this area. It states that you should not cause obstructions at any time,' she writes. She says she has reminded them of this 'on a number of occasions with absolutely no change.'
This ongoing situation has now stretched to eight months. As someone who works shifts, she says she cannot always predict when she will need access. 'To my mind if they need to load and unload the flatbed – perhaps having five other vehicles on the drive is the issue,' she says, adding that they could 'find other places to put them, so that I am not obstructed.'
She turns to Reddit to ask if her request is unreasonable or if she's in the wrong for pushing the matter. 'So, settle the argument,' she writes. 'AITA and is this an unreasonable request?'
Many commenters side with her, calling the neighbors' actions inconsiderate. One person points out that the legal covenant clearly supports her position.
'Sounds like your neighbours are being completely inconsiderate here. If there's a deed of covenant that clearly states no obstructions, you're well within your rights to enforce it,' the commenter says, suggesting she consider a formal letter or legal advice.

The woman admits she is starting to think that might be the only way forward. 'I think they won't listen unless I instruct a lawyer,' she responds. She says her neighbors are fully aware of the problem but 'don't care.'
What she finds most baffling is the breakdown in what she thought was a good relationship. 'I don't really understand why they are being so unreasonable as I thought we were on fairly good terms,' she says. Despite her repeated attempts to solve the problem amicably, she feels her patience is running out.
Now, after months of blocked access, unpleasant odors, and tense conversations, she's left wondering if standing her ground will escalate tensions further.

'I Don't Cut Checks For Headaches:' Philly Woman Catches Chefs' Warehouse Truck Hit Her Car. Then She Tries to Get Them to Pay
A woman says a Chefs' Warehouse delivery truck wrecked her parked car in broad daylight. While her neighbors rallied around her, she claims the company's customer service was anything but helpful. Caught On Camera In a video with more than 90,000 views, content creator and comedienne Jamie Pappas ( @jamieamaleapappas ) called out the Chefs' Warehouse for their alleged mishandling of a situation involving one of their drivers. 'That's my car, probably wondering how she got there, right? Okay, cautionary tale,' she begins. Stay informed with our newsletter every weekday back Sign up For more information, read our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use . Pappas explains that the incident happened while she was at work. Her car was parked near a coffee shop across from a restaurant, where a security camera captured the hit. The surveillance video clearly shows a Chefs' Warehouse truck hitting her car, knocking the bumper loose, then attempting to back away. Pappas credits nearby neighbors and shop staff for gathering details and leaving a note left o her car letting her know what happened while she was away. A nearby restaurant owner even offered her a free dinner for her trouble. Pappas felt confident the damage would be covered—after all, she has insurance, and the evidence seems clear. But she wanted to avoid paying her deductible since she wasn't at fault, so she reached out to Chefs' Warehouse directly to get the issue sorted. That's when the real frustration set in. Her Negotiation Skills Stop Salesman in His Tracks 'Is This Even Legal?:' Woman Takes 2023 Hyundai Palisade With Glitchy Touchscreen to Dealership. They Say She Needs a New Car 'I didn't hear back from the person that could help me for four business days,' Pappas says, explaining that she missed work and couldn't find a straightforward way to contact anyone responsible. The company's customer service form and generic email led to dead ends, she claims. Eventually, someone from the Bronx branch reached out. While they were 'super nice and helpful,' Pappas says she still 'just got punted down the line.' When she finally spoke to the company's insurance representative—six days after the incident—she says she explained the missed work and other problems the crash caused. His purported response? 'I don't know what you want me to say. I don't cut checks for headaches.' Pappas says she finally got her car back on Aug. 12—more than three weeks after the crash on July 20. 'Chefs' Warehouse better tighten up that customer service if you're gonna do something as egregious as this,' she concludes. The Saga Concludes Chefs' Warehouse is a specialty food distributor that supplies restaurants and food service providers across the U.S. and Canada. The company, headquartered in Ridgefield, Connecticut, operates a fleet of delivery trucks in several major cities. According to its website , it services fine dining restaurants, hotels, caterers, and gourmet markets. The company's insurance ultimately did cover the damages to Pappas' car and reimbursed her for the rideshares she had to take the initial week of the incident, she shared in a follow up video. 'My issue was the lack of empathy or care from the company that put me in this position,' she says. 'I know you may think I am naive to think I should be treated better by a business.' People who commented on Pappas' post disagree with her self-assessment. 'It's NOT naive to expect basic human decency from companies; it's weird that empathy's become so rare. I'm sorry this happened to you!' a person said. 'There is no way he was ever going to make that turn. Idk why he even attempted it. You aren't wrong to have expected the owner to treat you with respect and handle this in a professional manner,' another pointed out. 'Girl you should sue them you have a case,' a third chimed in. Father Defends Buying 16-Year-Old a Luxury Car and Refuses to Spend on Ex-Wife's Kids
The 47-year-old father says he's 'not interested in the whole blended family thing' despite criticism from his ex-wife over a pricey birthday gift NEED TO KNOW A dad's birthday gift for his 16-year-old son sparks a heated disagreement His ex-wife raises concerns about fairness and safety The father insists his financial responsibility is limited to one child A man seeks support from the Reddit community following backlash from his ex-wife over buying their 16-year-old son a luxury car. The father, 47, says he and his ex, 'Anna,' 44, have an 'okay relationship' but that their lives and values have always been different. 'We actually have an okay relationship but things just didn't work out because I put my career first and she's more of a 'follow your heart' kind of person,' he explains, adding that he sees her as financially irresponsible. The two divorced when she was pregnant with their son, and Anna later had two more children — a now 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl. According to the father, Anna 'always complains that I have money to spend on our son but I never spend anything on his siblings.' He notes that Anna's husband, who is the father of her other children, sometimes buys gifts for his son, but the situation is not mutual. 'While that's nice of him I'm not interested in the whole blended family thing, I have one child and that's it,' he says. The dad shares that he doesn't buy Anna's other children birthday or Christmas gifts, nor does he take them on vacations. He says the tension often flares up when he takes his son out of school to travel. 'She thinks it's unfair to his siblings and I'm making him fall behind but that's honestly not the reason — she's just in denial,' he writes. The latest argument happened when their son turned 16. 'I got him his dream car which was a 'luxury' car,' the father says, though he downplays the label. 'The way I see it any car is a luxury since any new model car can be expensive so I don't think it makes him that spoiled,' he explains. He insists that buying the car is well within his means and believes, 'since I'm not [breaking the bank] and he's my only son he should have whatever he likes.' Anna, however, was not impressed with the gift. He says she accused him of getting their son a vehicle 'he could 'kill himself' with' and was upset because 'with the money I could have gotten all three kids cars or at least money for ones in the future.' The father says this suggestion made him angry. 'First of all her kids aren't old enough to drive… and when they do get old enough why would I be the one to buy them a car?' he writes. Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. The argument escalated, and he admits his own behavior may have crossed a line. 'I might be the a-- because I did call her THAT word, in front of our son and I told her I didn't care about her kids,' he recalls. He says Anna responded by calling him 'heartless,' but he defends his stance. 'That's just how I really feel, I don't want to be anything to them,' he insists. The fallout has left the new car sitting with him for now. 'Right now I have the car because she won't let him keep it at her house which just feels petty,' he says. In the Reddit thread, one commenter sides with the father, telling him, 'Anna needs to understand that her kids are nothing to you, whereas your son is her husband's stepson. That is not the same at all.' The commenter adds that as long as he is not encouraging his son to mistreat his half-siblings, 'everything is good.' The father agrees with this assessment. 'Exactly, none of them are the type to get into fights with each other and they all seem to get along,' he says. 'I'd say everything's good.' Now, the dad is left questioning whether he crossed a line by making his feelings about Anna's children so clear. Read the original article on People Solve the daily Crossword
