Coronation Street bosses issue warning to fans over 'sophisticated' soaps scam

Metro17-06-2025
Coronation Street has issued warnings to fans in a social media statement.
It has become known to people behind the scenes at the soap that fans are falling victim to another type of scam.
Back at the start of this year, both Corrie and Emmerdale accounts shared on social media platform X that scammers were pretending to be stars from the shows.
The statement said: 'Please be aware that actors from both Coronation Street and Emmerdale are currently being impersonated by scammers across all social media platforms.
'No cast member will ever directly request money for messages, meetings or any kind of personal interaction on social media.
'We are aware these sophisticated impersonations can include deep-fake footage (where it appears to be the actor talking but isn't) and personal messages which seem to be realistic and in character. We urge everybody to be vigilant. Please report any concerns to the relevant platform.'
They concluded: 'The legitimate way of meeting with real members of the cast is via official 'meet and greet' events run by ITV Star Tours.'
This time, audience members are being targeted by con artists pretending to be from the Coronation Street casting department. It's also known that fans of Emmerdale are being approached too.
To warn people about the cruel trick, the Corrie X account once again shared a message online, this time saying: 'We are aware that there are some accounts impersonating the Casting department at Coronation Street on social media platforms.
'Our Casting team only uses official methods of communication, this does not involve direct messages on Twitter or any other social media.
'Please be careful when communicating online and report any concerns to the relevant platform.'
Early next year, Coronation Street and Emmerdale will collaborate in a special episode that sees both worlds crossover. More Trending
The soaps revealed in May that the one-off special edition will mark a new broadcast pattern that will launch in 2026.

It was announced earlier this year that both serial dramas will air in what has been dubbed as a 'power hour' from 8pm, Monday to Friday. Ultimately it means that both shows will lose a half an hour episode per week.
This event is the first time that soap worlds have collided in an official capacity – though we have seen small crossovers for Children in Need and to highlight climate change in the past.

Producers have confirmed that the episode will be marked in 'spectacular style', with production teams from Leeds and Trafford working together to achieve an 'ambitious' stunt' that will have 'everlasting consequences' for the communities of Weatherfield and Emmerdale.

Coronation Street to welcome new family who will run Rovers Return

Catherine Tyldesley's character Eva Price, who was last seen on the show in 2018, will return alongside her latest partner and his mother, who are both new to the cobbles. Shameless actor Aaron McCusker stars as Eva's partner Ben Driscoll, with Father Ted's Pauline McLynn playing his interfering mother Maggie. Ben's two sons and Eva's daughter Suzie will also be joining the cast. Residents will discover that Eva and Ben are the new landlords in October, more than seven years after Eva stopped pulling pints to start a new life in France with her daughter. Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks said: 'We are beyond thrilled that Eva is returning as the landlady of the Rovers, with her new blended family in tow. 'The Driscolls do not arrive quietly, so expect big drama, explosive secrets and raucous knees ups galore. To have actors of Catherine, Aaron and Pauline's considerable calibre at the beating heart of this family is absolutely wonderful, and we can't wait for you to get to know and fall in love with them as much as we have already done. 'Strap yourselves in, it's going to be an exciting and eventful ride.' A host of stars have left the British soap this year including Sue Cleaver, who spent 25 years playing Eileen Grimshaw. Among the others who have left are Colson Smith, who played Craig Tinker on the ITV soap opera, and Luca Toolan, who played Mason Radcliffe.

EastEnders star Jessie Wallace admits she 'burst out crying' after reuniting with her on screen daughter Michelle Ryan over two decades after THAT iconic scene

EastEnders star Jessie Wallace has revealed she 'burst out crying' after reuniting with her on screen daughter Michelle Ryan amid her return to the soap. During her time on the show, Michelle, now 41, was involved in one of the soap's biggest storylines when it was revealed that Kat Slater (Jessie) was in fact Zoe's mother and not her sister, with explosive scenes seeing her yell: 'You ain't my mother!', only for Kat to reply: 'Yes I am!' And now, after returning to Albert Square two decades after her dramatic exit, Jessie revealed she was overcome with emotion at the news. Speaking in an interview with the Radio Times she confessed that they reunited at a secret dinner date with the executive producers. 'I burst out I saw Michelle, I cried – we were all very emotional. It was nostalgic and lovely.' While it isn't uncommon for roles to be recast in the soap world, Jessie was also determined that if Zoe returned it could only be Michelle. 'I said to Ben [executive producer], "It has to be Michelle. It won't feel right if Zoe is recast." I wouldn't be able to give my best performance. The audience would feel completely conned.' She added: 'I love Michelle and have always been protective over her, perhaps that's natural having played her mum. I'm a mother myself now, which I wasn't when we worked together before, and I'm very protective over my daughter.' Michelle had been asked to return to the soap before but had always declined. However this time she felt the time was right after she was moved after seeing the comments on social media following EastEnders' 40th anniversary. After reminiscing on her time on the soap with colleagues she mentioned to her agent that she would go back and as coincidence would have it EastEnders had already been on the phone. Back in June Zoe made a bombshell return to the BBC soap, after her return was kept under wraps. Viewers then saw Zoe in two further episodes that week but she will now be back full-time this summer, as her mother Kat prepares to tie the knot with Alfie Moon for the third time. Speaking previously on her return to the BBC soap, Michelle said: 'It feels like coming home. After doing my first few scenes, it was like I'd never been away. It all happened at the right time. 'I'd already been thinking about a return because I'd met up with Kacey Ainsworth (Little Mo) and Kim Medcalf (Sam Mitchell) and we were reminiscing our fond memories of the show, and I'd also joined social media and saw that there was still a lot of love for the character. 'It just so happened that at the same time, EastEnders had announced a new Exec who was keen to explore the potential of a return as he was such a massive fan of Zoe and the Slaters, so both of our worlds aligned at the right time, and I'm so excited to be back. 'When I was pitched the storylines, and when I read the scripts, I knew it was the right decision.' EastEnders new boss, Executive Producer Ben Wadey added: 'Before I even stepped into the role, Zoe Slater was on my wish-list of returnees as, although we haven't seen her on screen for twenty years, her character has transcended time due to her popular storylines.' Since Zoe's exit from Walford 20 years ago, it's been revealed that she and Kat have become estranged. Teasing her character's reason to come back to Albert Square, Michelle added: 'I can't say too much as there is a lot of drama to come, but Zoe is a mess. 'She's not the girl that left Walford twenty years ago, and she's been really struggling on her own. 'She has her defences up, but this week you will see that she needs help, but whether she is willing to accept it is another story.' It comes after Daily Mail revealed in February that, despite multiple attempts from bosses over the years, Michelle had refused to return to EastEnders. A source revealed: 'Bosses reached out to Michelle several times over the years, they would love to have her back. For example, as the soap was approaching its big 30th anniversary, it was a gentle approach asking if she would consider a return in the lead up to it all. 'This was at the very early stages of their plans but Michelle refused and there was a lot of disappointment amongst bosses. 'It's always been quite baffling why she wouldn't want to reprise a character who is still very much adored by the fans. It's been 20 years since she left Albert Square but still people are talking about her character.'

Great British Sewing Bee viewers all say same thing as they point out 'big flaw'

The Great British Sewing Bee fans issued the same complaint during Tuesday night's episode The Great British Sewing Bee viewers all said the same thing as they pointed out a "big flaw". ‌ During Tuesday's (August 5) instalment of the popular BBC reality programme, judges Esme Young and Patrick Grant challenged the sewers with three tasks celebrating Korea's vibrant fashion and textile heritage. ‌ They were accompanied by acclaimed designer Eudon Choi, who assisted in evaluating each Korean-influenced piece. ‌ For the pattern challenge, contestants were required to craft a jeogori - a traditional Korean jacket that's now featured in modern womenswear and K-Pop fashion. The sewers then had to reimagine taekwondo uniforms and vibrant belts into eye-catching new garments, with Kit securing first place, reports Wales Online. ‌ In the made-to-measure challenge, participants were challenged to design evening attire that drew inspiration from clothing historically worn by Korean military personnel. Born in the 900s during the Goryeo dynasty, the cheollik started as a military coat built for movement and authority with a flat collar, pleats and ties. Over centuries, it's evolved from rugged menswear into elegant womenswear. ‌ Contestants were allocated five hours for the task, having been permitted to practice their designs at home. Following her failure to wow the judges with her garments, Novello was sent home from the contest, whilst Caz claimed the garment of the week accolade. ‌ "It's okay, I expected it," Novello said following her departure. "Sewing has always been in my life, and this experience has blown it out of the water, really. It's just something that I will remember and treasure always." However, after watching the episode, many of the show's viewers shared their frustration at the lack of time the sewers get during each challenge. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one person wrote: "I know it's a competition, but can't they give them a little more time? It's nicer to judge finished garments." Another added: "I know they have to weed out the worst sewers, but give them a bit more time," whilst a third said: "They defo need more time." The Great British Sewing Bee is available to stream on BBC iPlayer
