KTR, Harish tell BRS students wing to educate people on injustice to TG on river waters issue
Giving a PowerPoint presentation to the members of BRSV on Kaleshwaram and PBLP at the meeting here on Saturday, working president K.T. Rama Rao and senior leader T. Harish Rao said the responsibility of educating people, particularly the student community and the youth is on BRSV., and reminded them how students and youth had played a key role in the statehood movement.
They explained to the BRSV members how party president K. Chandrasekhar Rao had encouraged youth in politics and how he, as the Chief Minister, had achieved 95% quota to Telangana youth in jobs by getting the Presidential Order amended.
Stating that the commitment of Mr. Revanth Reddy to Telangana was exposed in his refusal even to utter 'Jai Telangana' slogan, they alleged that the Chief Minister is trying to erase the memories of Statehood movement.
With the help of the PowerPoint presentation, Mr. Harish Rao explained to them how the Pothireddypadu Head Regulator and Banakacherla Cross Regulator are proving to be a death knell to the river water interests of Telangana. He sought to know when there was no clarity on the assured water in Godavari Basin, how can A.P. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu say that they would only utilise floodwater.
Mr. Rama Rao said despite getting 18 clearances and permissions to utilise 240 tmc ft with Kaleshwaram project, the Naidu government had opposed it along with other projects by writing several letters to the Centre and other agencies. He had also opposed 967 tmc ft assured water of Godavari to Telangana, Mr. Rama Rao said, and added that Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao had written to the Centre in 2020 itself seeking 1950 tmc ft water out of an average 3,000 tmc ft Godavari water flowing into sea.
Party leaders G. Jagadish Reddy, Deshapathi Srinivas, Gellu Srinivas Yadav and others spoke.

Man dies by suicide in Kolkata, family claims he was living in fear of NRC
Kolkata: A 63-year-old man was found hanging in his residence in Kolkata on Sunday morning, with his family claiming that he had been living in fear that he would be sent to Bangladesh if the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was implemented. The victim worked as a non-teaching staff member at a private school in Dhakuria in south Kolkata.(For representation/PTI) Initial probe revealed that the deceased, Dilip Kumar Saha, had arrived in Kolkata in 1972 from Nawabganj in Dhaka and had been living in Anandapally West in the Regent Park area, a police officer said. Saha worked as a non-teaching staff member at a private school in Dhakuria in south Kolkata. "This morning, his wife called him several times, but received no response from inside his locked room. She then called their niece-in-law from a neighbouring house. They broke open the door to find him hanging from the ceiling fan," the officer said. The deceased's wife Arati Saha said her husband had been worried that he would be deported to Bangladesh after implementation of the NRC. "He has been under severe stress for quite some time regarding this. There was no other tension. He came to Kolkata in his childhood. He was afraid that he would be sent to a detention camp and then pushed back to Bangladesh, where he had nobody. He had valid voter ID card and other documents," she said. It is suspected that this fear led him to take his own life, the police officer said, adding that a suicide note has been recovered from the room. The matter is being investigated, the officer said. Power Minister and local Trinamool Congress MLA Arup Biswas reached the place and spoke to the family members. "This is what the fear of being thrown out of the country could do to a man. What they (Centre) have started in the name of the SIR shows their anti-people attitude, and the result is in front of you," Biswas said.

Kolkata man found dead, family says he ended life fearing NRC deportation
The family of a 63-year-old man who was found dead in his Kolkata residence Sunday alleged that he died by suicide since he was living in fear of being deported to Bangladesh under the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC), police said. A suicide note purportedly written by the victim, Dilip Kumar Saha, an Indian citizen, was found from the spot, police said. Saha, who reportedly moved to Kolkata from Nawabganj in Dhaka in 1972, was found hanging in his room in the Anandapally West area of Regent Park. Police said Saha's wife Arati Saha, and another relative broke into the room after he did not respond to their repeated calls. He was declared dead on arrival at a hospital. Arati claimed that her husband was under mental stress as he feared being sent to a detention camp and eventually deported to Bangladesh even as he possessed valid voter ID and other documents. Saha worked as a non-teaching staffer at a private school in Dhakuria in south Kolkata. The matter is under investigation, police said. Meanwhile, local TMC MLA and Power Minister Arup Biswas, who visited the family, said, 'This is what the fear of being thrown out of the country could do to a man. What they (Centre) have started in the name of the SIR shows their anti-people attitude, and the result is in front of you.' Later in the day, the TMC held a press meet, with party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh holding the BJP-led Centre responsible for Saha's death. Ghosh accused the Centre of creating 'an atmosphere of terror' that is causing 'valid Indians' to fear for their lives, especially those who may struggle to produce their parents' documents. Education Minister Bratya Basu also condemned the incident, calling the BJP's 'insulting and harassing' notices to Hindu Bengalis regarding the NRC. 'The way in which the BJP has been sending NRC notices to Hindu Bengalis, is to insult and harass them. Not being able to tolerate this, Dilip Kumar Saha has ended his life. His wife, Aarti has said this. Migrant workers are being called infiltrators. In Pune, a man who fought in the Kargil war was called the same,' Basu said. -with PTI inputs

Will oppose Banakacherla, protect T's river water rights: Uttam
1 2 Hyderabad: Irrigation and civil supplies minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday asserted that the Congress govt will oppose Andhra Pradesh's Banakacherla project at every level. He termed the project, being taken up by AP, as a violation of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act and the 1980 Godavari River Water Agreement. Speaking at various programmes in Peddapalli district along with ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, D Sridhar Babu, Tummala Nageswara Rao, and Adluri Laxman Kumar, Uttam said the Central Water Commission (CWC), the Godavari River Management Board (GRMB), and the Polavaram Project Authority rejected permissions for Banakacherla based on Telangana's objections. The Centre also withheld environmental clearances in response to the state's representations. Referring to the recent meeting of chief ministers of Telangana and AP with the Union jal shakti minister in New Delhi, Uttam said Telangana firmly placed its objections against the Banakacherla project. He accused BRS leaders of speaking irresponsibly and misleading the public despite knowing that the project violates inter-state water-sharing laws. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo He also criticised Andhra Pradesh minister Nara Lokesh for vowing to proceed with Banakacherla, stating that Telangana would not allow the project to be built. Banakacherla is against the provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act and earlier water-sharing agreements. Telangana govt will take all steps to halt its construction. Former chief minister K Chandrasekar Rao allowed Godavari water to be diverted to Rayalaseema. He betrayed Telangana's river water rights. Telangana govt intends not only to use existing irrigation infrastructure but also build new projects along the Godavari river, including the Icchampally project, to fully utilise its share of river water," he said. Over 1 lakh crore was spent on the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project by the previous BRS govt, but the Medigadda barrage component of the project failed to provide any benefit. Though the Kaleshwaram project passes through the Manthani constituency, it has not irrigated even a single acre. Yet, Telangana achieved record-level paddy production, showing that the state's agricultural performance was not dependent on Kaleshwaram alone, he addded. On the issuance of new ration cards, the minister said the Congress govt was currently distributing fine rice to 3.17 crore beneficiaries, replacing the low-quality coarse rice that 2.81 crore people received during the previous govt tenure. "Nearly, 84% of the state's population is covered under the fine rice scheme. The number of ration cards increased from 89 lakh to 98.59 lakh, with 8.64 lakh new cards issued since Congress came to power," he added. Box: Uttam Kumar Reddy said the state cabinet will discuss the report on the Kaleshwaram project and take a policy decision. "The Congress govt is committed to protecting the river water rights of the people of Telangana," he added. The minister inaugurated the Ramagundam lift irrigation scheme in Anthargone mandal, stating that the project would provide irrigation water to 13,396 acres.
