Durga Ashtami holds a great religious and spiritual importance as this day is purely dedicated to worship Goddess Durga. On this sacred day, devotees offer their sincere prayers to Maa Durga and seek blessings.
As per Hindu Scriptures, Maa Durga is the divine feminine energy and the mother of this universe. She is the power, creation, preserver and destroyer of the universe. Maa Durga is known as a Hindu warrior Goddess, who takes birth to defeat all the demons and to establish the righteousness in the universe.
The ten armed Goddess possess all the divine super powers to protect her devotees from the evil energy and black magic.
This is the great time to worship Maa Durga as the Shravan month is going and devotees can invoke both the deities - Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga during this time period and utilize the time in a best way they can. They can visit the temple, offer prayers to them, chanting mantras and reciting the Shiva Chalisa and Durga Saptashati Path.

Wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath before starting puja rituals. Do offer Arghya to Lord Surya and after that place an altar where you can place an idol of Maa Durga and light a diya in front of that. After this, you can offer some bhog prasad to Maa Durga and in the evening you can visit temple where you can offer shhringar and garland and sweets to Mata Rani and seek blessings.

This marked a turning point in modern warfare and human history. Hiroshima was bombed One of the most horrific events in the history of the world took place on August 6, 1945, when United States dropped the world's first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. At 8:15 am, the bomb was dropped from the B-29 bomber Enola Gay. The bomb, which detonated approximately 600 metres above the city centre, released an immense burst of heat and radiation. An estimated 70,000 people lost their lives from the heat while tens of thousands more died in the following days and months from injuries, burns, and radiation sickness. The Hiroshima bombing ushered in the nuclear age, demonstrating the terrifying power of atomic weapons. It also sparked an international movement for disarmament and peace, as the world confronted the devastating human cost of nuclear war. Birth of India's first test tube baby India achieved a milestone in medical history on this day in 1978 with the birth of the country's first test tube baby Kanupriya Agarwal. Born in Kolkata, her birth occurred just 67 days after the world's first IVF baby was born in the UK. This made India second country in the world to successfully use in-vitro fertilisation (IVF). The pioneering effort was led by Dr Subhas Mukherjee, a brilliant but underrecognised physician and scientist from West Bengal. Using limited resources, Mukherjee developed India's first IVF protocol at a time when the country lacked modern laboratory infrastructure. The fertilisation was done outside the body, and the embryo was implanted in the mother's uterus, leading to Durga's birth. The Indian scientific community failed to verify or support his work, and he was barred from traveling abroad to present his findings. Disheartened and disgraced, Mukherjee died by suicide in 1981, with his groundbreaking work unacknowledged. It was years after his death, his work was finally validated. In 2002, a high-level committee officially confirmed that Mukherjee had indeed created the world's second test-tube baby. Live Events Sage Lomasha's counsel and the power of the fast The ministers greeted the sage with folded hands: 'O revered one, we are truly blessed to be in your presence.' The sage responded, 'Honourable minister, I am pleased by your humility and conduct. Please tell me the reason for your visit. I will do my best to help, for our bodies are meant to perform good deeds.' The ministers explained their king's sorrow. 'O Rishivara, you are more capable than Brahma himself in understanding our troubles. King Mahajita of Mahishmati is virtuous and dearly loved by his people. He treats his subjects like his own children, yet he remains childless. This causes him great sorrow, which we, his people, also feel. It is our duty to share in our king's happiness and sorrow. We do not know the cause of his childlessness, which is why we have come to you. Now that we have found you, we believe our suffering will end. Please tell us what can be done so our king may have a son. This would be a great kindness to us all.' After meditating, the sage revealed that the king's suffering was due to past karma. 'O noble ones, in a past life your king was proud and committed sinful acts. He wandered from village to village. Once, on the Ekadashi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Jyeshtha, he had gone without food for two days. At noon, he came to a reservoir to drink water. There, a cow that had just given birth was also drinking. He drove the thirsty cow away so he could drink first. That is the reason the king now suffers. The merit from observing Ekadashi in his previous life earned him a royal birth in this one. However, the sin of turning away the thirsty cow caused his present childlessness.' The ministers pleaded for a remedy. 'O revered sage, the scriptures say that good deeds can wash away past sins. Please show us a way to absolve the king of his past misdeeds so he may be blessed with a child.' The sage advised: 'If all of you observe the Putrada Ekadashi fast during the Shukla Paksha of the month of Shravan, stay awake throughout the night, and dedicate the merit of this fast to your king, then he will be blessed with a son. His suffering will be removed as a result.' Blessings after observance The ministers followed the sage's advice. They observed the fast and stayed awake on the night of Ekadashi. On Dwadashi, they offered the merit of their fasting to the king. As a result, the queen conceived and later gave birth to a son. This event gave the Ekadashi its name—Putrada Ekadashi—or 'giver of sons.'
