American visits Poundland for first time and is floored by 'unexpected' discovery
YouTuber The Magic Geekdom visited a Poundland store for the first time and she was blown away by the size of one department as she exclaimed she was "not expecting" it An American YouTube star visited Poundland for the first time and was left stunned by the products on offer in one department. Cara, who runs t he Magic Geekdom channel which boasts more than 77,000 subscribers, and she updates her followers on her travels around the UK. One British tradition she had yet to experience was a visit to iconic high street budget store Poundland, but that changed as she updated her fans in her latest video. It was the size of the clothes department that really shocked Cara as she compared it to a similar US chain called Dollar Tree. She said: "I've never actually gone shopping in a Poundland. There's a whole clothing department I was not expecting. I feel like in the US our Dollar Trees do not have this many clothes. "I was not expecting a whole section of clothes, like this is huge. Do you see this? This whole clothing section is giving Primark. I'm just curious. I don't think I'm going to buy anything but I did see some slippers I thought were cute. It's so loud in here." Poundland was founded in 1990 and now boast more than 800 stores. The YouTuber spent a significant amount of time in the budget store, perusing the aisles as she compared the products on offer to what one might expect to find in a Dollar Tree store in the USA. Cara added: "I don't know, I'm going to say, and granted a dollar costs less than a pound. I mean a pound is worth more than a dollar. "These seem like better quality things than you would find at the dollar tree in the US. I think you would be hard pressed to find a set of kitchen utensils for that cheap in the US. The sign says there are over 1,500 items that are a pound or less. "They do have a little bit of everything here don't they. The car station area, they've got a bike pump." In another video, Cara claimed she had discovered the UK's 'most overlooked city' as a visit there left her stunned. She could not contain her excitement when she went to Leeds. She expressed her surprise at the beauty of the city, highlighting Leeds City Museum as a prime example of the city's allure. The YouTuber said: "This was my very first time in Leeds and it completely blew me away! I didn't know much about the city going in, but after a full day exploring its stunning arcades, fascinating museums, delicious food spots, and lively streets, I can honestly say Leeds is one of the most overlooked cities I've visited so far in the UK. "From beautiful architecture to incredible markets and independent shops, this city has so much to offer."

Neil Perry's new restaurant, brought to life in Song Bird's former nest, serves Italian classics with a side of la dolce vita
If the name 'Gran Torino' rings a bell, you might be thinking of the vintage car or the Clint Eastwood movie by the same name. But now, there's another reason to remember it: Neil Perry's latest restaurant. Taking over the former home of his Cantonese diner Song Bird in the heritage-listed Gaden House in Double Bay – which recently had its final flight less than a year after its shiny big opening – Gran Torino serves up Italian classics with a modern Australian spin and that unmistakable Perry polish. Gran Torino is a one-minute walk from Perry's cream-accented flagship diner Margaret – voted the second-best steak restaurant in the world – as well as his casual outpost Next Door (get the burge r) and excellent bakery, Baker Bleu. The elegant two-storey dining room has been reimagined by long-time collaborators, fashion designer Collette Dinnigan and food photographer Earl Carter. Think bold red accents and striking black-and-white photographs from the 1950s and '60s that adorn the walls and add a touch of la dolce vita The menu, crafted by Perry with executive chef Richard Purdue (Margaret, ex- Rockpool, ex- Rosetta) and Margaret's current head chef Ervin Mumajesi, champions seasonal produce from Perry's trusted local suppliers. Dishes are kept authentic to highlight the freshest seafood and prime cuts of meat. Perry says: 'The basis of all Italian cooking is to work with the seasons, so Gran Torino's menu will reflect what's available at the market each day. Antipasti and pasta to begin, followed by seafood and meat for mains. To be cooking these dishes in this beautiful dining room just feels right.' Go with Perry's rec and kick things off with antipasti – the bresaola using thinly sliced Mishima beef topped with Reggiano, or the shaved raw artichokes and fennel, are our picks. Move on to house-made pasta like the pumpkin tortelli with burnt butter, the tagliolini with blue swimmer crab, or the agnolotti del plin that's stuffed with veal and guinea fowl (plin means 'pinch' and refers to the way the pasta is sealed). For mains, how about a mighty 1kg bistecca alla Fiorentina, or a grilled swordfish steak? Make sure you have a separate 'dessert stomach' for classic tiramisu and bomboloni filled with vanilla cream and raspberry conserve. The drinks list is just as enticing, with Bellinis, Martinis, Italian vermouths and Campari, plus drops from Australia to Italy and across to the Americas. And there's more to come. In September, Neil and Samantha Perry will launch Bar Torino in the space that Bobbie's occupied. It will be a more casual Italian spot for spuntini, antipasti, pasta and larger plates, served from midday 'til late. Got a celebratory dinner coming up? Give Gran Torino a try.

NFL star Travis Kelce wants to ‘do good' with fame from dating Taylor Swift
The 35-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end also said he did not like negative comments that had been made about him since his relationship with Swift, who announced her 12th studio album The Life Of A Showgirl on Tuesday, began. Speaking about increased media scrutiny in an interview with British GQ, Kelce said: 'You can't block that (attention) out. If someone says something that they don't like about you, you have to be able to understand how you are portraying yourself for them to say that. 'I don't want anyone to say anything negative about me. Some people don't give a f***. I'm someone who does care. 'I do want people to look at me like I'm doing good in the world, I'm influencing and using my platform for the better, being a role model, being somebody that has done it the right way.' But Kelce said he was not offended by being dubbed a 'meathead jock', and added he finds it funny and that 'acting like you're the smartest one in the room just isn't the way to go'. He said that as well as being the 35-year-old Shake It Off singer's boyfriend, he was also a 'fan' of her music, and enjoyed seeing her come to his matches. The American footballer went on to speak about Swift's similarities to his mother Donna, adding: 'Their kindness, their genuineness, their ability to say hello to everyone in the room. 'Their ability to show love and support no matter what. And on top of that, their work ethic. I saw my mother reach goals that she had set for herself, go from being a teller to working all the way up in the KeyBank building. 'I've seen Taylor do the exact same thing of setting goals for herself and exceeding the expectations and really captivating the world in that regard.' During his NFL career, Kelce has won three Super Bowls, and hosts the New Heights podcast alongside his brother Jason, who is a retired NFL player. See the full feature in the September issue of British GQ, available via digital download and on newsstands from Tuesday August 19.
