Draft coastal zone maps are flawed: Puducherry fishers
Leading the demonstration, R Mangayarselvan, founder of the organisation, alleged that the draft CZMP maps had failed to incorporate vital community assets essential for the livelihood and sustenance of the fishing community. He pointed out that critical zones such as fishing areas, breeding and spawning grounds, net-mending spaces, fish auction sites, and designated areas for long-term housing — all mandated under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Notification — had been omitted.
Mangayarselvan further alleged that 551.2 acres of common property in Puducherry's coastal villages and another 175.04 acres in Karaikal had been deliberately excluded from the draft plans. 'These omissions pose a direct threat to the rights, traditions, and livelihoods of coastal fisherfolk. The draft must be revised to reflect ground realities and the provisions of the amended 2024 CRZ Notification,' he said.
The protest also drew political support, with Leader of the Opposition R Siva and DMK convenor joining the agitation and endorsing the community's demands.

'We will become roaring lions to oppose it,' he said, if such attempts were made in Tamil Nadu. VCK president and Chidambaram MP Thol Thirumavalavan also said his party would strongly oppose any such moves. NTK chief coordinator Seeman, in a post on X, said that the special intensive revision of electoral rolls, if done in Tamil Nadu, could result in migrant workers from north Indian states exerting a huge influence on TN politics, thereby eroding the power of Tamil people.

Resume Kudimaramathu if elected: Farmers to EPS
THOOTHUKUDI: Farmers in the district have appealed to leader of opposition and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami to resume 'Kudimaramathu scheme' if his party comes to power in the 2026 election. The appeal was made during EPS's interaction with entrepreneurs, farmers, salt producers, fishermen and advocates here on Saturday. On the occasion, farmers said the DMK government has failed to pursue the Kudimaramathu scheme which was instrumental in protecting and deepening the waterbodies. 'The tank beds are filled with silt deposits that had reduced the storage capacity,' they said, adding that it resulted in flooding in December 2023. Representing two lorry owners' associations, Suburaj urged for a truck terminal in the city as inadequate parking facilities lead to traffic issues. 'Trucking terminals are required in every town to set right traffic issues, as lorry transportation play a vital role in industrial development,' he said. The industrialists said the electricity tariff hike has become a cause for concern amid power interruptions during late hours. A few industrialists and a bishop urged EPS to protest against drug menace immediately, as the contraband, according to them, is easily available to high school students now.

18,573 farmers benefit from ‘Annadata Sukhibhava' in Vizag
Visakhapatnam: Welfare schemes and development programmes are being implemented in the state as part of achieving Swarna Andhra Pradesh goals, said district In-charge Minister Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy. Speaking at the fund release programme of the first phase of district-level 'Annadata Sukhibhava' held at Gajuwaka here on Saturday, the minister said that 18,573 farmers in Visakhapatnam district form a part of the beneficiaries' list. The district In-Charge Minister mentioned that with an aim of providing employment to the youth, land allocations are being made to the industrialists and special measures are taken by focusing on CRZ encroachments. Speaking on the occasion, Telugu Desam Party state president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao stated that the coalition government is implementing every promise made during the election campaign. He informed that the government is giving priority to horticultural crops and encouraged the urban residents to take advantage of the opportunity. North constituency MLA P Vishnu Kumar Raju stated that the schemes being implemented by the Central and State governments will benefit the poor and farmers. DCCB chairman Kona Tatarao opined that good governance is prevailing in the state. District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad informed that the financial assistance of Rs.12.90 crore received by the farmers of the district through the scheme will be directly deposited in their accounts. He said that the scheme will be useful to invest in seeds and fertilisers. GVMC Deputy Mayor Dalli Govinda Raju, former MLC Duvvarapu Rama Rao, District Agriculture Officer Appalaswamy, Tahsildar Srinivasa Rao, public representatives, officials and farmers participated in the programme.
