13MP construction projects to leverage modern tech for efficiency
Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan highlighted that these methods will speed up project completion while cutting material waste and costs.
The plan also aims to build one million affordable homes over a decade through government and private sector collaboration.
Transit-oriented development (TOD) will be expanded to better link housing with public transport networks.
Amir Hamzah noted that Bumiputera contractors have a significant role in driving sustainable and inclusive development under the 13MP.
He spoke at the Malaysian Bumiputera Contractors Association (PKBM) dinner during its 6th AGM.
The minister launched the PKBM BIM Satellite Centre, a joint effort with CIDB E-Construct Services Sdn Bhd.
The centre will train contractors in BIM, now mandatory for projects worth RM10 million and above.
Contractors will receive guidance on applying BIM across all construction phases, from planning to maintenance.
This initiative aims to boost efficiency, reduce waste, and support Malaysia's construction industry digital transformation.
The move aligns with the MADANI Government's vision for a more productive and transparent sector. - Bernama

Gobind: 13MP Highlights Technology, AI To Boost Malaysia's Digital Transformation
GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- The 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) clearly emphasises technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), in line with the government's push to accelerate the country's digital transformation, said Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo. He said one of the key priorities highlighted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is the development of the AI Nation Framework, which aims to fully leverage the country's 5G network to create digital solutions, including smart city initiatives using existing data. 'The 13MP also emphasises 'data commission'. The Prime Minister has made it clear that the concept of a data bank is closely linked to digital trust, among other related areas. 'These are steps that we see as supporting the aspiration to achieve AI nation status in the near future,' Gobind told reporters after launching the 5G Enterprise and AI City Grant today. He said this initiative will be featured at the upcoming Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur 2025 (SCEKL25), scheduled for Sept 17–19, which will serve as a platform to showcase Malaysia's smart city transformation and foster collaboration among city leaders, innovators, and digital solution providers. Leveraging world-class 5G connectivity, the minister said Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) have been tasked with leading the AI Cities initiative, which builds upon and complements the Smart Cities programme under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government. 'I hope these efforts have — and will continue to — lay the groundwork for real, actionable innovation. By aligning strategic leadership with on-the-ground execution, we have seen how national initiatives can translate into meaningful local impact. 'The grants awarded today are a direct outcome of this alignment — where policy meets purpose, and vision meets implementation,' the minister said. The grant was awarded to 14 recipients, comprising universities, companies, and local authorities.

Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey G. Kitingan (GRS-Keningau), when debating the motion on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) at the Dewan Rakyat today, called for Sabah's fisheries, agriculture and livestock sectors, which hold vast potential, to be fully explored. 'It needs to be implemented using a new approach that covers the entire industrial chain, rather than through standalone projects,' he said. Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (Warisan-Semporna), meanwhile, urged the government to give serious attention to the implementation of development projects in Sabah to ensure the benefits reach the people of the state. He added that the projects should focus on addressing issues such as water supply and dilapidated schools to ensure balanced development between Sabah and other states. Mohamad Shafizan Kepli (GPS-Batang Lupar) called on the Ministry of Education to focus on constructing additional blocks in critical rural schools to address classroom shortages that have led to classes being merged and the implementation of a two-session system.
