Edmundo Sosa homers as Phillies sweep Rangers
Sosa's solo homer in the fifth tied the game 2-2. Philadelphia took the lead in the frame when Bryson Stott singled, stole second, and scored on Weston Wilson's hit off Rangers starter Patrick Corbin (6-8).
The Phillies' Zach Wheeler (10-5), working with two extra days of rest because of a sore shoulder, allowed two runs on three hits and three walks over five innings while striking out seven and won for the first time since July 6, with two losses and a pair of no decisions in the interim.
Tanner Banks, Matt Strahm and Orion Kerkering each pitched a scoreless inning in relief of Wheeler before Jhoan Duran allowed a hit in the ninth on the way to recording his 20th save of the season and second in as many games in this series.
Corbin went 4 1/3 inning, surrendering three runs on four hits and three walks with one strikeout. The loss snapped a streak of four straight no decisions for Corbin, whose most recent victory came on July 10 on the road against the Angels.
Both teams had seven hits, with J.T. Realmuto and Stott leading Philadelphia with two each; seven different players produced hits for the Rangers.
The Phillies have won six of their past seven games while the Rangers have dropped four straight.
Joc Pederson staked the Rangers to the lead with a two-run home run in the first inning that allowed Corey Seager, who had walked, to score ahead of him. Philadelphia answered in the fourth when Trea Turner walked to open the frame and sprinted home on Bryce Harper's double to the right field corner.
Brandon Marsh's sacrifice fly in the ninth off Rangers reliever Phil Maton plated Harrison Bader with the game's final run.

August 13 - Nine-time Grand Slam champion Monica Seles is battling a new challenge: a neuromuscular autoimmune disease called myasthenia gravis. The 51-year-old Seles is going public about the condition she was diagnosed with three years ago. It causes muscle weakness in the arms and legs and bouts of double vision among other symptoms. Seles was noticing odd changes around five years ago and it eventually became apparent to her that something major was wrong. "I would be playing (tennis) with some kids or family members, and I would miss a ball," Seles said, according to The Guardian. "I was like, 'Yeah, I see two balls.' These are obviously symptoms that you can't ignore. "And, for me, this is when this journey started. And it took me quite some time to really absorb it, speak openly about it, because it's a difficult one. It affects my day-to-day life quite a lot." There currently is no cure for the disease. Seles, of course, had a different hurdle earlier in life as she was stabbed with a knife by a fan during a 1993 match in Hamburg, Germany. Seles was 19 at the time and would be away from the sport for 27 months due to both physical and mental anguish. Seles won eight Grand Slam titles prior to the stabbing and reached the finals of all four majors in 1992, winning three of them. She won the Australian Open for the third straight time months before the stabbing. After she returned, Seles won just one Grand Slam title -- the 1996 Australian Open. "I had to, in tennis terms, I guess, reset -- hard reset -- a few times," Seles said. "I call my first hard reset when I came to the U.S. as a young 13-year-old (from Yugoslavia). Didn't speak the language; left my family. It's a very tough time. "Then, obviously, becoming a great player, it's a reset, too, because the fame, money, the attention, changes (everything), and it's hard as a 16-year-old to deal with all that. Then obviously my stabbing -- I had to do a huge reset." Decades later, Seles is now adjusting to a "new normal" and looking to move forward with the next version of herself. "Really, being diagnosed with myasthenia gravis: another reset," Seles said. "But one thing, as I tell kids that I mentor: 'You've got to always adjust. That ball is bouncing, and you've just got to adjust. And that's what I'm doing now." Seles decided to reveal her condition and use her platform to help educate people about the little-known disease. "My MG journey over the past 5 years has not been an easy one," Seles said in a statement through argenx, a company partnering with Seles to raise awareness at the upcoming U.S. Open. "I felt isolated and defeated as many of the activities I enjoyed were no longer physically possible for me. I've since realized that by sharing my story, I can raise awareness of this disease, empower patients to advocate for themselves and help them connect with the MG community for support." Seles retired from professional tennis in 2008 and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame one year later. She won 53 tournaments and spent 178 weeks at No. 1, sixth-most all-time among female players. --Field Level Media

Rams have 'no update' on ailing QB Matthew Stafford
August 13 - Tuesday marked another day on the sidelines for Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, whose back problem continued to keep him out of duty at training camp. Stafford, 37, was expected to participate in his first training camp practice on Monday but came out in street clothes. It was no different Tuesday, as Jimmy Garoppolo worked with the first team again and Stafford stayed out of the mix. "No, no update on Matthew," assistant head coach and passing game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant said, per Pro Football Talk, "but what I will tell you is it's very tough for not only him and for the organization. I would say is that he's trying his best." Pleasant went on to say that the Rams were "Matthew's team" but that he was pleased with how the offensive coaching staff was "catering an offense" toward Garoppolo in recent days. The developments create further uncertainty about Stafford's readiness to play in Week 1. Garoppolo is taking the majority of first-team reps as the Rams prepare to open the regular season Sept. 7 against the visiting Houston Texans. Stafford led the Rams to a 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI and is entering his 17th NFL season. Dodgers reliever Brock Stewart (shoulder) placed on 15-day IL
August 13 - Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Brock Stewart is being placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation, manager Dave Roberts told reporters Tuesday. Roberts said he believes that the team caught this situation early. Stewart last appeared in a game on Aug. 9 vs. Toronto, tossing a scoreless inning. He'll undergo testing on Wednesday, per Roberts. Stewart, who was drafted by the Dodgers in 2014, returned to the organization as a trade-deadline acquisition from the Minnesota Twins.
