Yahoo2 days ago
After Katy Perry came onto the A-list scene, she's been linked to some A-list stars, including some very unexpected ones. While we all know about her brief marriage to Russell Brand and her nine-year relationship with actor Orlando Bloom, did you know about her years-long relationships with other musicians and actors? Perry's relationship timeline is quite wild, full of twists, turns, and a whole lot of engagement rumors.
Most recently, Perry has sparked romance rumors with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and it has everyone talking. But as we said, this isn't the first unexpected romance she's found herself in.
And while she's had quite a few high-profile romances, she does try hard to keep it under wraps. In fact, she even told Billboard in 2015: 'In all my relationships, I've learned how I have to be more careful and that it's not up for public consumption.'
So, we put our detective caps on and searched far and wide for everything we could find about Perry's dating history.
Below, see Perry's complete dating history, from Travie McCoy to Bloom.

Justin Trudeau (2025-)
A month after Perry and Bloom called their engagement off, she was seen with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. It was all obtained in a video through TMZ, which shows the pair in a thoughtful, deep conversation at the swanky Le Violon restaurant in Montreal. He was later seen at one of her concerts, and everyone is wondering how this relationship will go.
Orlando Bloom (2016-2025)
Orlando Bloom and Perry met back in 2016 at a Golden Globes afterparty, and within a few months, they started dating. They confirmed their romance in May 2016 with a now-archived Instagram post. However, within less than a year, they actually split up. Perry was reportedly the one to end it, and their reps confirmed the split to People. 'Before rumors or falsifications get out of hand, we can confirm that Orlando and Katy are taking respectful, loving space at this time,' they said. 'It was a few events that happened over the past few months. They both still love each other very much, though, and getting back together could happen once they have some space.'
But their breakup didn't last long either because they were spotted together in the summer of 2017, and then got back together by Jan 2018. After that, they got engaged on Valentine's Day 2019.
In March 2020, they announced they were expecting a child in Perry's music video for her song 'Never Worn White.' Then, on Aug. 27, 2020, they welcomed their daughter Daisy Dove Bloom into the world.
However, they broke up after nine years together in 2025.
Diplo (2014)
Diplo and Perry sparked romance rumors after getting cozy together a lot in 2014. It was confirmed, but didn't last long at all.
When James Corden appeared as a special guest on Perry's four-day Witness World Wide YouTube live stream, he asked her to rank three of her exes in bed, and ranked Diplo as number three (With Bloom as number two and Mayer as number one), per EOnline.
Riff Raff (2014)
So, this one is a bit confusing. As many know, Perry and Riff Raff attended the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards together in matching denim looks, but was it anything more? Perry did confirm in 2015 through Instagram that they went on a date the year prior. Then, he told TMZ via AZ Central, 'Who knows where things might go. Just got to see where things lead.'
So it just seems to have been one date!
Robert Ackroyd (2012, 2014)
Robert Ackroyd, guitarist for Florence and the Machine, and Perry first started dating back in 2012 sometime around the Coachella Music Festival in April.
'It wasn't serious,' a source told E! News said of the couple when they split up sometime in June 2012. 'She likes him a lot, but it was just a distraction. It was very short-lived, she's still dealing with getting over her marriage [to Russell Brand] and it's going to take her a while to truly be able to trust anyone again.'
They sparked reconciliation rumors in 2014 after eyewitnesses claimed to have seen them making out at a party, but nothing transpired, per E! News.
John Mayer (2012-2015)
As many know, Perry and John Mayer had an on-again, off-again relationship from 2012 to 2015. They first met in September 2009, chatting over drinks at a Jay-Z aftershow, per EOnline. They were pals for a while but it didn't get romantic until after her divorce from Brand; and it started with them as pen pals. (However, per Today, he tried to woo her in 2010!)
The romance rumors started in 2010 when Mayer and Perry were spotted dining at the Chateau Marmont. However, the lovey-dovey stage didn't last long. They broke up and got back together once in 2013, twice in 2014, before splitting up for good in 2015.
He confirmed having written the song 'Still Feel Like Your Man' about their relationship. Perry, on the other hand, allegedly wrote a song about them during the early stages of their romance called 'Legendary Lovers' from her album Prism.
Russell Brand (2009-2011)
Despite popular belief, Perry and Russell Brand didn't first meet at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, they met the year prior when Perry was asked to film a brief cameo for his film Get Him to the Greek. Their romance started in 2009, and within four months, they announced their engagement, which reportedly occurred in Jaipur, India.
They married in Oct 2010 in a traditional Hindu ceremony.
They split up in Dec 2011 when he texted her he wanted a divorce while she was on tour.
Perry told Vogue in 2013, 'At first when I met him, he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they're like, 'I can't handle the equalness.' He didn't like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting. Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011.'
Josh Groban (2009)
After splitting up with McCoy, Perry had a fling with fellow singer (and later pal) Josh Groban. While neither confirmed it at the time, Perry sparked a lot of speculation after she posted a photo of a temporary tattoo of his name on the upper part of the left breast.
Despite denying the speculation for years, Groban did finally admit they dated on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in 2018: 'We did [date]. We were both very private, and so we realized we were better as friends. And we've been very, very good friends to this day.'
James Valentine (2009)
While neither the Maroon 5 guitarist or Perry commented on it, one of their mutual pals did.
Truth & Salvage Co. frontman Tim Jones said to Blast Magazine in 2010 that the pair dated. 'She was dating my friend, James Valentine, who plays guitar in Maroon 5,' he said. 'We were up at his house one night, and she was asleep. He had a piano there, and it was late. I started playing and working on a song.'
Travie McCoy (2007-2008)
Travie McCoy of Gym Class Heroes were together from 2007 to late 2008., and most notably, she appeared in his band's music video for 'Cupid's Chokehold.'
Not only that, but they decided to pull a fake marriage prank on their family. She told PopEater via People: 'We took all the pictures with the minister, with the fake cake, in the fake chapel and got a fake marriage certificate. We went and bought a wedding dress and a suit at a thrift store, and scanned the pictures and the certificate to my family members, my manager at the time [and] totally freaked the s— out of them.'
McCoy posted on his blog confirming their split on New Year's, per Billboard. Not only did Perry end the relationship, but McCoy claimed to Yahoo UK that she ended it over email. 'It started off with 'I love you so much I hate to do this,'' he said about the email, noting his drug addiction at the time may have heavily contributed to the split. 'It destroyed me.'
It's heavily believed that Perry's song 'Circle The Drain,' is about their romance, with lyrics like 'Can't be your savior, I don't have the power/ I'm not gonna stay and watch you circle the drain.'
Johnny Lewis (2005-2006)
Actor Johnny Lewis, known for his roles in Sons of Anarchy and The Runaways, was Perry's boyfriend from 2005 to 2006. Not much is known about their romance, but we do know they broke up so Perry could focus on her career.
It's heavily speculated that her hit song, 'The One That Got Away,' is at least partially inspired by him.
However, in 2012, at the age of 28, police were called on him after it was said he violently attacked two people at the property next door. He ended up killing his 81-year-old landlady, her cat, and then fell off the roof to his death, per AP News.
Matthew Thiessen
Matthew Thiessen of Reliant K and Perry dated from 2003 to 2005, also working as songwriting collaborators. According to 94.9 HOM, some songs on Perry's first album are allegedly about Thiessen, including 'Thinking of You,' a song about a woman torn between two lovers, and 'I'm Still Breathing,' which is a song about ending a toxic relationship.
Not much is known about their romance, but Thiessen did say to Songfacts.com in 2012: 'I used to date her back in the day for a couple of years. But we're still really good friends. We're not too close, but yeah, she's a great person.'
Justin York (2002-2005)
Justin York, younger brother of Paramore member Taylor York, and Katy Perry dated from 2002 to 2005. Per FamousFix, they allegedly met in high school, and worked together for a bit, but split up after three years.
Robert Pattinson (Rumored)
Okay, okay, we had to mention this one because we know everyone would be asking. Robert Pattinson and Perry were at the center of dating rumors for years, especially since they always seemed to hang out whenever she was single. However, as W Magazine, has said, they've just been close pals throughout it all, nothing more!

‘Vulture' is a provocative satire about a clueless scoop seeker in Gaza

'Doctor Strangelove,' 'Catch-22,' and 'M*A*S*H' collide in British journalist Phoebe Greenwood's blistering debut novel, 'Vulture,' a darkly comic, searing satire grounded in historic politics, suffused with incipient journalism and imbued with self-aggrandizement. Dominoes fall quickly and hard for 33-year-old budding reporter Sara Byrne, assigned as a freelance stringer by the fictional London Tribune to cover the 2012 Gaza War. She is ambitious and clueless. A nepo baby, she's certain a scoop will make her career and bring her out of the shadow of her recently deceased father, Bill, a foreign affairs writer considered a titan among the giants of Fleet Street. She finds herself ensconced in all-expenses-paid headquarters for foreign correspondents like her: the Beach, Gaza's four-star 'nice hotel,' an 'oasis of humanity in a blighted desert' featuring a room with uninterrupted sea views and shrimps in a clay pot. Observing the consequences of conflict, Sara soon realizes she is embedded in her own emotional war zone. The Beach is a convenient location for mingling, networking and seeking contacts through a fixer, someone essential for foreign correspondents. Sara's fixer is Nasser. He introduces her to an aged, grieving Palestinian widower who has lost his whole family in a bombing, but she doesn't see any point in even being in Gaza if the only story 'was sad Mohammeds talking about their dead kids and dead wives and neighbors and so forth.' She dismisses ongoing attacks, thinking everything is 'getting a bit samey.' A morgue visit elicits disinterest and little more than a body count, with Sara wondering if 'ten makes a massacre. I only counted six.' In a crowd of dead, limp bodies, she spots a sobbing Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist and exclaims, 'What good is a crying photographer to anyone?' Heartless, she wants a bigger story, something that would put her byline on the front page. If Nasser can't get her into Hamas' underground tunnels 'where all the men running the war were hiding with their rockets,' then she would have to find someone who could. That someone appears to be Fadi, part of the fixer culture. He wore 'skin-tight black jeans and a black t-shirt with I Heart Brooklyn written on it in red, loopy letters' and 'stank of aftershave that could easily have been his sister's perfume and smoked cigarettes greedily.' His alluring credentials include an uncle he claims is a top fighter in the resistance who can get Sara a meet and greet with the leader of the Al-Yasser Front. Fadi promises a photo shoot with black balaclavas, guns and black flags. Foolhardily, defying Nasser's caution, Sara offers Fadi $1,000 for an excursion into the 'terror tunnels,' certain this will give her a proper story to write rather than what she terms 'monkey journalism.' Instead, after several delays and setbacks, she finds herself involved in an excruciatingly senseless death when the Beach's restaurant is bombed. Greenwood's graphic details are vivid and disturbing, from screaming that is 'a high unnatural wail that could shrivel souls like salted slugs' to air 'powdered with concrete and sulfur.' With dead bodies scattered around her, Sara, her hands dripping a trail of blood, retreats to her room, feeling responsible for one particularly shocking death. A series of flashbacks sprinkled throughout the novel highlight the deep psychological wounds Sara brings to her wartime experience. They underscore the guilt she carries from traumatic relationships with her father, mother and an adulterous affair. She believes she can never match her father's success as a reporter and on the first anniversary of his death, instead of visiting his grave, her mother takes her to a Sloane Square department store (because that's where she was taken as a child to buy shoes). Her clandestine involvement with her father's close friend and literary agent, whose wife is dying of cancer, implodes, leaving her a bitter 'other woman' living her own soap opera. It complicates a sexual encounter with an Italian cohort in Gaza. One of those flashback chapters, 'The Cradle of Civilization,' unravels the ironic, ravaging narcissistic, perhaps psychopathic implications of the title. Like the bird of prey seeking carrion, a foreign correspondent is characterized as a misery merchant or conflict cowboy, making a living from death and disaster. Even as their function is to give voice to the voiceless, Greenwood writes, their assignment is to 'stand in the middle of something,' to understand (from the Old English, understanden) and listen. As they do so, like Sara, seeking a 'defining moment' they might morph into news cannibals. And then there are the other birds. They are scattered throughout the novel. Keep an eye on them. Sara does. The literal ones and the magical, metaphorical ones. The first sighting is a simple one, easily dismissed. A manky bird on her balcony jolts Sara from semi-wakefulness right after she's had a dream of her dying father. Its habitual appearance becomes disconcerting. Is it just a bird or is it a harbinger of doom and death? She begins to think of it as a 'deranged stalker,' a 'horrifying, tapping shitting bird,' terrorizing her. Eventually, Sara, her health deteriorating from what appears as an undiagnosed illness, begins to hallucinate, seeing the bird's 'heart beating visibly under its feathered ribs, its metallic purple face,' culminating in believing the bird has transmogrified into a talking pigeon that is her father. Greenwood's stinging, salient novel remains relevant (the more things change, the more they stay the same), excoriating those who make a business of war whether it's public or personal. As the owner of the Beach observes: 'War may be hell but it's one hell of an employer.' 'Vulture' is a provocative, uncompromising powerhouse of a read. AMC Theatres is Planning to Shorten Its Pre-Show Ads Following Blowback From Studios — GeekTyrant

Everyone who frequents movie theaters these days is well aware that when the lights dim, there's still a fair amount of time before your movie begins. You have ads, trailers, and the theatre's commercial to sit through before you even get to the movie you came for, and sometimes I am left wondering what it is I came to watch after seeing all the content that came before it. But one of the country's biggest chains is looking to downsize that wait time. After blowback from some major Hollywood studios over AMC Theatres' decision to book more ads before each movie's showtime, Deadline reports that the No. 1 circuit is working to shorten its preshow. It's still early and specific details are unknown, but there's hope that a shave can be done by year's end. News leaked back in June that as of July 1, AMC had worked a deal with National CineMedia Inc. to run spots during each movie's pre-shows, specifically a platinum spot. AMC's rivals, i.e. the repsective No. 2 and 3 chains Regal and Cinemark, already were participating in this ad revenue stream. AMC didn't see any business deteriorating for the competition, and it opted into the National CineMedia pact. Execs at the major studios were upset by the move, angry that moviegoers no longer were sitting through their in-cinema trailers for future movies due to lengthy preshows — a very powerful piece of marketing as moviegoing begets more moviegoing. Adding more fuel to the fire was AMC running a notice on its ticket-buying portal: 'Please allow 25-30 extra minutes for trailers and additional content before the movie starts.' Some studio execs read that notice as, 'Hey, moviegoers, why don't you just skip the pre-show until the movie starts?' Myriad studios launched their own studies last month noticing that the preshows for the top three chains ran from 24-28 minutes before one particular new wide release that weekend in SoCal. One internal study observed that only 80% of the audience were in their seats to watch trailers a mere four minutes before a movie began. 80% sounds solid to me, and I would assume that those 20% are either running late, buying concessions, or hitting the bathroom before the movie starts. No one is truly paying attention to those ads, as people do their best these days to avoid commercials and ads wherever they come across them. But AMC shortening their intro sounds like a positive move to me, and executives can go on to pretend that the ads that remain are making a difference.

‘Weapons' is a fright-night delight from a promising director

Even greater than the pleasure that accompanies the emergence of a new talent is the pleasure of seeing that talent confirmed. With 'Weapons,' an almost absurdly enjoyable nerve-shredding night at the movies, the writer-director Zach Cregger vaults into the esteemed company of modern horror maestros like Ari Aster ('Hereditary,' 'Midsommar'), Robert Eggers ('The Lighthouse,' 'Nosferatu') and Jordan Peele ('Get Out,' 'Nope').
