'Cry me a river': Excuse from Broncos fans slammed amid Reece Walsh and Haas truth
Cobbo then injured his hamstring later in the 22-2 loss to the Melbourne Storm. Cobbo and Mam are expected to miss the remainder of the season, while Reynolds is a hope of returning if the Broncos make finals footy.
Many Brisbane fans admitted their season could have gone up in smokes in the one play having watched both their halves limp off the field. Although Queensland representative Ben Hunt will likely slot into the halves to replace one of them, while his partner is up in the air.
Regardless, not everyone is sympathetic for Broncos fans. NRL reporter Riccio hit back at the excuses he has heard since last Thursday. Riccio claimed he doesn't buy into the ominous chat surrounding the club suggesting many teams are dealing with injuries in 2025 and the squad still holds players such as Reece Walsh and Payne Haas in the starting XIII.
"Cry me a river. Are we seriously going to sit here, and Broncos fans are going to go now rip up there grand final tickets, on the basis of what has happened with these three injuries," Riccio said on Triple M's NRL Daily. "There are clubs that have gone through so much worse, this season, and been able to respond.
"Not only that, they still maintain a roster that includes Reece Walsh, Pat Carrigan, Kotoni Staggs, Ben Hunt, Payne Haas...they can help you win a comp. Here we are, the Broncos, are going to play the whole poor me card...you still have a star-studded roster, go and win the comp and show us what you are made of."
Former NRL star James Graham said the Broncos had already missed their chance of a top four finish after some poor performances earlier in the season. "The reason they are not going to play top four is because of other results at the start of the season. It's not because they lost three players in Melbourne," he said.
Despite the injuries last week, coach Michael Maguire didn't offer an excuse having claimed the team can cover the injuries. 'We'll be right,' he said. 'I mean, we've got people in the background that can come in. That's part of the progression. We've been able to bring a few people in and change around a little bit, so we'll work through that throughout the week.'
Winning the premiership having finished outside the top four in finals footy has proven to be a rare feat in the NRL. Although the Broncos face a fight just to remain in the top eight. Brisbane face a huge game this weekend against the Dolphins on Saturday night and both teams will view it as a must win game.
The Dolphins suffered a shock 64-12 hammering at the hands of the Roosters last weekend and will be looking to bounce back at Suncorp Stadium. And coach Maguire is expected to make a surprise announcement in his halves for the Saturday night game.

Against Melbourne, Staggs switched from centre to five-eighth after Reynolds and Mam went down, and Maguire has the option of keeping him there for their crunch clash with the Dolphins. Although calls are growing for Billy Walters to shift from No.9 to five-eighth for the vital clash.
According to former Broncos Kevin Walters, Maguire is better served playing Staggs in the centres. And the former coach reckons it might be son Billy at No.6 with Hunt at halfback.
'I feel like Kotoni is better in the centres,' Walters said on Fox League. 'The Broncos need someone who is more of a genuine six. Kotoni did a good job the other night but his asset is his running and power game and that's best served in the centres. Billy is an option for them at six.' League legend Wally Lewis agreed and claimed Walters' expected move to the halves is another chance for the Broncos star to silence his critics and believes he will thrive in the jersey his famous father once played in for the Broncos.

Broncos 27, Cardinals 7: Takeaways from offensive performance on offense
The Arizona Cardinals played their second preseason game Saturday night, and it was not a pretty game. They were blown out by the Denver Broncos 27-7. It wasn't a good game on either side of the ball. Offensively, it was bad. What can we take away from the offensive performance? Feels good with Jacoby Brissett For the second straight game, new Cardinals backup Jacoby Brissett impressed. This time, he played only two drives in the first quarter. The first one went only six yards in five plays, picking up a first down, but he led the Cardinals to another touchdown, throwing a beautiful pass to receiver Simi Fehoko for the score. He was 6-of-8 passing for 57 yards and a touchdown, and he picked up a first down on a two-yard quarterback sneak. It gives fans comfort knowing that there is a capable, even competent, backup behind Kyler Murray. However, we must also remember that the five possessions he has played in two preseason games, while three have results in touchdowns, they were all against their opponents' backups. The offensive numbers are just bad The Cardinals gained only 135 yards of offense the entire night. They had only eight first downs. If you take away Brissett's two possessions, quarterback Clayton Tune led the Cardinals on eight drives that netted 62 yards and three first downs. They went three-and-out five times. There was no running game Now, the Cardinals didn't play their starters, so no starting offensive line and no James Conner or Trey Benson. But even still, they gained only 36 yards on 17 carries. At least there were no turnovers If there was one bright side to the Cardinals' abysmal offensive night was the fact that they did not turn the ball over. They didn't fumble at all and no interceptions were thrown, so at least it was a turnover-free game. Crows star could be investigated over alleged comment
Izak Rankine, one of Adelaide's most important players, could come under AFL investigation a week out from the finals. Late on Sunday night several media outlets reported that Rankine may be in trouble for an alleged comment to a Collingwood opponent during Saturday night's massive win. That three-point success in front of a packed house at Adelaide Oval guaranteed the Crows will finish in the top two and secure a home qualifying final. This will be the Crows' first finals appearance since they lost the 2017 grand final to Richmond. Their premierships were in 1997-98. Rankine was among Adelaide's best against the Magpies, kicking a goal late in the second term that gave them the lead for the first time in the match. If a league investigation was to find him guilty of misconduct and he was suspended, it would be a significant blow to Adelaide's finals campaign. There was no official confirmation from the AFL or either club as of late Sunday night that there had been an alleged incident. Adelaide will play North Melbourne next Saturday at Marvel Stadium, their last game before the finals. Rankine, 25, has played 22 games this season for a career total of 105. He is yet to play in a final, having started his AFL career with three seasons at Gold Coast before the Adelaide native was traded to the Crows after the 2022 season.

3 Arizona Cardinals players who improved their stock in preseason loss to the Broncos
In a bad game against the Broncos, few impressed. The Arizona Cardinals lost their second preseason game Saturday night, a 27-7 defeat to the Denver Broncos in which they allowed 562 yards and only gained 135. They didn't play any of their starters expect for rookie cornerback Will Johnson and new linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither. There weren't a lot of positives, but a few players helped their stock as we approach final cuts and the 53-man roster. Which players stood out? QB Jacoby Brissett Brissett doesn't have any worry about making the roster, as he has the backiup quarterback job locked up. However, he led the Cardinals to another touchdown, giving him three touchdown passes in five preseason possessions. They have come against opponent backups, but the ease with which he operates the offense and moved the ball down the field, there is confidence that the offense will be okay should Kyler Murray ever get hurt. WR Simi Fehoko Fehoko had his first preseason action, missing last week's game with a quad injury. He had two receptions for 21 yards, including a 16-yard touchdown reception. He also made a special teams tackle. He is a player most fans won't know, but the TV broadcast emphasized he is good on special teams. He showed enough to probably secure a spot on the roster, especially considering he ha almost all his salary guaranteed in 2025. K Chad Ryland He only had the one extra point and did not have a field-goal attempt, But before the game, he drilled a 72-yard field goal. There is no issue with his leg. That was about it. It was mostly players hurting themselves. Get more Cardinals and NFL coverage from Cards Wire's Jess Root and others by listening to the latest on the Rise Up, See Red podcast.
