Gehlot asks protesting RAS aspirants to meet BJP state president

Time of India15-06-2025
Jaipur: Former chief minister
Ashok Gehlot
met a delegation of RAS Mains aspirants at his residence in Civil Lines Sunday. The aspirants were protesting for over a week at
Rajasthan University
, demanding exam dates be postponed.
However, admit cards for the exam were released by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) Saturday.
While speaking to the aspirants, the former chief minister advised them to meet the BJP state president again Monday, who assured the students that their demands would be met. Aspirants mentioned that despite assurances from several ministers, including both deputy chief ministers of the state, their demands were not met.
"Time is limited, so my suggestion to you is to meet the BJP state president once again regarding the issue. He can place your demands in front of the chief minister. If you wait at his residence, then he will surely meet you all," said Gehlot.
RPSC issued admit cards Saturday for RAS Mains 2024, confirming the examination dates as June 17-18. This decision finalises the schedule despite protests by candidates in Jaipur, who demanded the exam be postponed until after declaration of the RAS 2023 results.

After CSDS psephologist deletes X post, BJP accuses Congress of making 'baseless claims' on voter fraud

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday (August 19, 2025) accused the Congress of making 'baseless' claims about 'vote theft' and targeting the Election Commission of India in 'collusion' with a Delhi-based think tank. This came after Sanjay Kumar, a psephologist and a professor with the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), who had shared voter data from two Maharashtra Assembly seats related to last year's State election in a post on X on Sunday (August 17, 2025), subsequently deleted his post on Tuesday (August 19, 2025), apologising for posting erroneous data. The post had claimed a significant decrease in voter numbers in two Assembly seats in the State election compared to the 2024 general election, which was held nearly six months earlier. 'Fake data' Reacting sharply, BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia lashed out at Mr. Kumar for posting 'false data' which he claimed was used by the Opposition to target the EC, calling it a 'dangerous game'. 'This survey organisation [CSDS] is nothing but a puppet at the hands of leaders like Rahul Gandhi who could not win people's trust. He needs such an organisation which can provide fake data and facts so that he can make baseless allegations,' Mr. Bhatia said. 'Congress leader Pawan Khera tweets on this and then deletes. Rahul Gandhi's baseless allegations are also based on CSDS data,' he added. Deleting his post on Tuesday (August 19, 2025), Mr. Kumar wrote on X, 'I sincerely apologise for the tweets posted regarding Maharashtra elections. An error occurred while comparing the data of 2024 LS and 2024 AS. The data in the row was misread by our Data team.' The erroneous tweet has since been removed, he said, adding, 'I had no intention of dispersing any form of misinformation.'

IAS Fraternity 🇮🇳 (@IASfraternity) August 19, 2025 The confrontation between two Constitutional position holders—the CEC and the LoP – began after Rahul Gandhi alleged 'vote theft" and irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in the state. The Election Commission has repeatedly denied these 'baseless" accusations and called on Gandhi to sign an affidavit or apologise. ALSO READ: Can India's Chief Election Commissioner Be Impeached? Sudershan Reddy's candidature strengthens our collective resolve to safeguard democracy, says Stalin

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin congratulated retired Supreme Court judge B. Sudershan Reddy on being named INDIA bloc's Vice-Presidential candidate. 'I wholeheartedly congratulate Thiru B. Sudershan Reddy on being chosen as the vice-presidential candidate of the Opposition,' he said. Mr. Reddy was a jurist of integrity and independence, and a champion of civil liberties and social justice, and upheld constitutional values throughout his career, Mr. Stalin said. 'At a time when our institutions are under strain, his candidature strengthens our collective resolve to safeguard democracy and protect the spirit of the Constitution,' he added. Contending that all the independent institutions meant to safeguard democracy had been turned into the 'subsidiary bodies of the ruling party', and that the Constitution was in danger, he said, 'In such a situation, the responsibility before us is to support only the one who believes in India's fundamental ideals of secularism, federalism, social justice, and unity in diversity.' Mr. Stalin alleged that the BJP-led government at the Centre was 'continuously inflicting injustice on Tamil Nadu' — refusing to accept the State's rightful demands such as exemption from NEET, recognition of Keeladi's antiquity, fairness in fund devolution, and release of educational funds. 'Through Governors, it has been running a parallel government and blocking the functioning of State governments, while engaging in efforts to weaken institutions of higher education.' The DMK was consistently and vociferously raising its voice in Parliament against the unconstitutional denial of the State rights, the centralisation of power, the rising tide of hate propaganda, and the relentless imposition of Hindi and Sanskrit — 'all of which dig a grave for the Constitution and attempt to bury it', Mr. Stalin said. The DMK president said 'secular-spirited people of Tamil Nadu' had, in successive elections, overwhelmingly voted for the MPs and MLAs of the DMK-led alliance to defend the rights of the State and safeguard the Constitution. 'This decision stands as both a reaffirmation of the people's faith and a mark of respect for their mandate and sentiment.' 'As someone who can create space for constructive debates in Parliament, conduct the House by giving the rightful place to the voice of the Opposition, and as a democrat who has faith in the Constitution and in the principles of federalism, pluralism, social justice, and linguistic rights — Mr. Sudershan Reddy stands. As the opposite of anti-federalism, authoritarianism, and the trend of spreading hatred — Mr. Sudershan Reddy stands,' he said.
