Time of India27-04-2025
Varanasi: Panic broke out at Varanasi airport after a Canadian national aboard a Bengaluru-bound IndiGo flight claimed he was carrying a bomb on Saturday night.
Following his claim, the flight was taken back to the apron of Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport from the runway and was checked for several hours by CISF and the bomb disposal squad before it was allowed to depart on Sunday morning.

Subsequently, the Canadian, Yohanathan Nishanth (23), was arrested by Phoolpur police. DCP Gomati Zone Akash Patel said Nishanth claimed to have a bomb in his bag when the flight was in the process of taking off. The pilot immediately alerted the Air Traffic Control (ATC) and the aircraft was moved to the isolation bay after safely disembarking all the passengers. After intensive checking by BDS and CISF personnel for five hours, no explosive material was found.
The Canada high commission has been informed about the incident. Phoolpur police station inspector Pravin Kumar said the individual from Canada appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. IndiGo Airlines flight 6E-499 was positioned for departure at 10:24 pm, already experiencing a delay from its original schedule of 9:55 pm on Saturday.
The preliminary enquiry conducted by police and CISF security staff revealed that whilst the aircraft was moving from the apron to the runway, Yohanathan had shifted from his allocated seat.
When cabin crew instructed him to return to his designated seat, he became agitated. Subsequently, he started making alarming declarations about carrying explosives in his baggage and also started shouting religious slogans.
All the passengers spent the night in the terminal building. After receiving clearance from security agencies, the aircraft departed for Bengaluru at 7 am on Sunday, officials said.

Group Of People Slammed For Using Soap While Bathing At Canadian Lake: "It's Not A Bathtub"

A video has surfaced online showing a group of people bathing with soap at a Canadian lake in Brampton. In the video, two couples can be seen using soap and cleansing products in the water, which may harm fish and other marine life. The internet claimed the group was Indian, sparking outrage among locals who condemned the "irresponsible" behaviour. "Canada's beaches are turning to baths for foreigners. Canada's transformation to a 3rd world country is happening daily," the caption of the video shared on X read. Here's the video: Canada's beaches are turning to baths for foreigners. Canada's transformation to a 3rd world country happening daily. — Kirk Lubimov (@KirkLubimov) August 9, 2025 The footage has sparked outrage among locals and netizens, who criticise the act as polluting and disrespectful. Many users demanded police action, with some expressing frustration over the perceived disregard for environmental responsibility. One user wrote, "I thought it was forbidden to do that. Soap is polluting the water." Another commented, "Soap and shampoo. That can't be good for the fish and other water creatures." A third said, "Bathing with soap and shampoo at the beach is harmful to the environment and can negatively impact the delicate ecosystem of the water body. While it might seem convenient, using soap in natural water sources like oceans, lakes, or rivers can disrupt the water's chemistry, harming aquatic life and potentially affecting the health of other beachgoers." A fourth added, "Brampton!!! I am sick of this shit happening in our country. Our waters are not your bathtub; we swim in these waters. @CityBrampton this needs full attention, this is our clean swimming beaches, and they are destroying it, charges need to be laid." However, some users accused the original poster of racism, arguing that assuming the individuals were Indian based on their brown skin tone was unfair and stereotypical. A fifth user stated, "You want to hate on them because you're a racist? Fine, own that. But don't dress it up with some fake 'conscious eco-climate warrior' spin. Lol. The West cares about climate. Nature & environment." NDTV could not verify whether the group of people were Indian or not.

Mumbai Police Provides Security Cover To Kapil Sharma After Two Shooting Incidents At His Canada Cafe

Mumbai Police has extended security protection to popular comedian and television host Kapil Sharma after his newly opened cafe in Canada became the target of two separate shooting incidents within the past month. The attacks on Kap's Cafe in Surrey have prompted authorities to take preventive measures for the entertainer's safety. The most recent shooting occurred during the early morning hours of Thursday, August 7, in Surrey's Newton neighborhood. Surrey Police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 4:40 AM outside a business establishment in the 8400 block of 120 Street. While police officials did not publicly identify the targeted venue, Canadian media sources confirmed that Sharma's Kap's Cafe was the location of the attack. This incident follows a similar shooting that took place at the same cafe on July 10, 2025, creating a disturbing pattern of targeted violence. In both instances, no individuals were physically harmed, though the repeated nature of these attacks has generated significant security concerns for the establishment and its proprietor. Surrey Police have launched comprehensive investigations into both shooting incidents, examining potential connections between the attacks and exploring whether they might be linked to broader criminal activities in the region. The investigations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the motives behind the targeted violence. The 43-year-old comedian, widely recognized for his successful television program The Kapil Sharma Show, established the cafe earlier this year as part of his expanding business ventures in international markets. Sources indicate that Sharma has maintained regular communication with Canadian law enforcement officials and is providing full cooperation with their investigation efforts. Evidence from the July incident revealed at least ten bullet holes in one of the cafe's windows, with another window pane completely shattered during the attack. The building housing the cafe contains retail establishments at ground level with residential apartments situated above, though the exact number of residents affected by the incidents remains unclear. The frequency of these attacks has heightened concerns about a potential wave of targeted violence in the area, with authorities continuing their investigation amid unverified online speculation about possible gang involvement. The pattern of repeated attacks on the same establishment has led security experts to recommend enhanced protective measures for business owners in the region. Local authorities are working closely with business owners and residents to address safety concerns while the investigation progresses. The cafe had opened just days before the first shooting incident in July, making the timing of the attacks particularly concerning for law enforcement officials examining the circumstances surrounding these violent incidents.
