Doctor Who star reveals David Tennant nod in upcoming episode

Yahoo05-05-2025
Millie Gibson will be channelling some David Tennant in her next Doctor Who appearance.
Next week's episode of the hit sci-fi show, titled 'Lucky Day', will mark the return of Gibson's Ruby Sunday after she last appeared in the 2024 Christmas special 'Joy to the World'.
Speaking to Radio Times, the actor described her character's wardrobe in the new episode as "a bit more grown-up" but "still cool".
"She's kind of packed away the tweed vibes, I'd say," she continued, adding that one outfit reminded her of the style worn by David Tennant's Doctor.
"My favourite outfit is towards the end of the episode. I genuinely thought they dressed me like David Tennant!" she said.

"I had a pinstripe waistcoat and pinstripe pants and then a white shirt. I was literally just like David Tennant.
"Pam Downe, our costume designer, has a really subtle way of illustrating that these are what these characters would wear when they get older.
"The colour scheme is a lot of plums, a lot of dark greens and a lot of dark blues. It's just more mature colours."

The new episode will see Ruby face life back on earth without the Doctor. But when a dangerous new threat emerges, Ruby and UNIT must set out to save her new boyfriend Conrad (The Little Mermaid's Jonah Hauer-King) from the terrifying Shreek.
Previously speaking to Collider about Ruby's journey in season 15, Gibson said: "It's the rare case where you see the companion after the Doctor.
"It's never been explored before, and I think it's such a beautiful and clever thing to do. Can you imagine traveling the world with The Doctor and then seeing how they cope with it after when your life just goes back to normal?
"It was the weirdest feeling. But yeah, I'm joined by the beautiful Jonah Hauer-King on her journey. He's a very, very interesting character, and he makes the show even more magical."

Sugar Season 2: Release date speculation, cast and plot details – Everything we know so far

By Aman Shukla Published on August 21, 2025, 19:30 IST Last updated August 21, 2025, 12:04 IST Apple TV+'s Sugar blew everyone away with its slick detective vibes and that wild sci-fi twist in Season 1. Now, fans are practically losing it waiting for Season 2 of this neo-noir gem. From when it might drop to who's back and what's next for John Sugar, here's the full scoop on everything known so far. When's Sugar Season 2 Hitting Screens? No official date has been spilled yet, but the tea points to a 2025 premiere. Apple TV+ gave the green light for Season 2 back in October 2024, and cameras started rolling in LA by February 2025, with some globe-trotting scenes shot overseas. Word on the street is production wrapped in August 2025, so they're probably deep in editing and all that post-production magic right now. Based on how Apple TV+ rolls with shows like this, a mid-2025 vibe—think June to September—feels like a safe bet. Season 1 dropped in April 2024, so a similar timeline makes sense. Keep your eyes peeled on Apple TV+'s socials for a trailer or some sneaky teasers to lock in that date. Who's in the Cast? Returning Stars and New Blood Colin Farrell is back as John Sugar, the private eye with a heart of gold and an alien secret that flipped the script. Dude's performance was straight-up electric, nailing that mix of tough and tender, so no surprise he's the anchor for Season 2. But what about the rest of the Season 1 crew? Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Ruby), Amy Ryan (Melanie), James Cromwell (Jonathan Siegel), Anna Gunn (Margit), Dennis Boutsikaris (Bernie Siegel), Nate Corddry (David Siegel), Sydney Chandler (Olivia Siegel), and Alex Hernandez (Kenny) haven't been confirmed yet. Ruby peaced out to another planet in the finale, so her comeback's a big question mark, but the alien plot could pull her back. Melanie's tight with Sugar, so fingers crossed she's in for the ride. Season 2's bringing some fresh faces to shake things up. Jin Ha ( Pachinko ) is playing a boxer mixed up with some shady folks, Laura Donnelly ( The Nevers ) is a woman who's not falling for Sugar's charm, and Tony Dalton ( Better Call Saul ) steps in as a sheriff's lieutenant. Plus, Shea Whigham ( Fargo ), Sasha Calle ( The Flash ), and Raymond Lee ( Quantum Leap ) are joining the party. Whigham's some government guy helping Sugar, Calle's a hustler on his team, and Lee's role is still hush-hush, which has fans buzzing with theories. This crew's gonna crank up the drama and keep the noir-sci-fi mashup popping. What's the Plot for Sugar Season 2? Season 2 throws John Sugar back into the LA grind, tackling a new missing persons case while chasing a personal lead—finding his missing sister. That Season 1 bombshell about Sugar being an alien watching humans? Yeah, it's about to get wilder. The finale left jaws on the floor with Henry (Jason Butler Harner) turning out to be a shady alien tied to a kidnapping, maybe even Sugar's sister. This season's got Sugar juggling a fresh mystery with his hunt for answers about his family and why he's stuck on Earth. Expect that gritty noir feel—think double-crosses, dark secrets, and moral gray zones—mixed with sci-fi craziness. With aliens now exposed, Sugar's on the run from hunters while facing off with Henry's dark side. Showrunner Sam Catlin ( Breaking Bad ) is leaning hard into Sugar's search for where he belongs, moving from just spying on humans to figuring out who he is. New characters like Ha's boxer and Donnelly's tough-as-nails role are gonna stir up trouble, and LA's shady streets will keep the vibe moody and intense. Oh, and word is they filmed a car chase in Downtown LA with Farrell doing his own stunts—bet that's gonna look insane. Ahmedabad Plane Crash Aman Shukla is a post-graduate in mass communication . ‘Eden' Review: Twilight of the Europeans

Jude Law plays a philosophic doctor with dentures in 'Eden,' a historical drama that's by turns bracing, glum and absurd. His character, Friedrich Ritter, inspired by a desire to 'save humanity from itself,' and buttressed by a lot of improperly digested Nietzsche, has fled Germany after World War I to build a life on the island of Floreana in the Galápagos archipelago. He and his wife, Dore (Vanessa Kirby), who has multiple sclerosis, live in a rough and ready style, growing vegetables that are easy on the gums. Richter sends prose accounts of his lifestyle to a German newspaper, which turns out to be not such a hot idea, because when the movie begins his solitude is compromised by the arrival of a starry-eyed fan, Heinz (Daniel Brühl), and Margret (Sydney Sweeney), Heinz's quiet wife. If Friedrich and Dore aren't too taken with Heinz's schemes, the island's growing population is further rocked by the arrival of a self-styled Baroness, played with maximum glam-queen entitlement by Ana de Armas and complemented by a few not-too-handy boy toys. Her exaggerated German accent at times sounds a little like Madeline Kahn's in 'Blazing Saddles.' There are erotic shenanigans galore, and as the tension mounts, harrowing acts of violence. It's a little surprising that these proceedings are led by the director Ron Howard, since this subject matter is more perverse than anything he has set his sights on before. The actors are up to the task, however. De Armas is particularly distinctive; she has a tight grip on her character's venality, but also revels in her absurdity. EdenRated R for language, violence and sexuality. Running time: 2 hours 9 minutes. In theaters.

The Thursday Murder Club': The Verdict On Each Character And Cast Member

The typical murder mystery that crime thriller fans know and love typically sees a temperamental detective lead a team of officers on a murder case, from their base at police headquarters. Netflix's The Thursday Murder Club is anything but, yet promises to be a fan-favourite upon its release on August 22. The film, which is based on the best-selling book by Richard Osman, follows a group of friends living in Cooper Chase Retirement Village, as they meet every Thursday to solve a mixture of cold cases in their local area. Suddenly, the group are thrust into the heart of a real case, and will stop at nothing to solve the crime, even if it means making enemies along the way. Filled with a star-studded cast including Helen Mirren, Naomi Ackie, David Tennant, Ben Kingsley and more, we break down the roles of the main cast members, and the parts they'll play in solving the cases. Who is Elizabeth Best? As the head of the Thursday Murder Club, Elizabeth leaves no stone unturned, thanks to her sharp eye for investigating cold cases. She's often at the forefront of the mysteries, rallying the group together and even coming face to face with dangerous suspects. What else has Helen Mirren starred in? Dame Helen Mirren has starred in numerous award-winning films and television series including The Queen, Gosford Park and 1923. Who is Ron Ritchie? Ron Ritchie is a strong-willed former union activist who is a member of the Thursday Murder club. While he may appear blunt, he works well alongside the other members of the group and is extremely loyal. What else has Pierce Brosnan starred in? A former James Bond, Brosnan has starred in GoldenEye, The King's Daughter and The Out-Laws. Who is Ibrahim Arif? A former psychiatrist, he is one of the core members of the club who binds the group together thanks to his calm and collected attitude. What else has Ben Kingsley starred in? With a career spanning decades, he has previously featured in As You Like It, Anne Frank: The Whole Story and Mrs. Harris and more. Who is Joyce Meadowcroft? Previously a nurse, Joyce is the club's newest member. Although her kind demeanour may initially fool you, she's just as sharp and strong-willed as the other members. What else has Celia Imrie starred in? Celia is best known for starring in Nanny McPhee, Bridget Jones's Diary and Better Things. Who is Ian Ventham? He is the assertive and rather villainous owner of the retirement village, who clearly cares little for the residents. In the trailer Ian can be heard saying that he's, 'not worried about the cantankerous old farts', which points to him being a potential ally to the club's opposers. What else has David Tennant starred in? He is best known for starring Dr Who, Broadchurch and Jessica Jones. Who is DCI Chris Hudson? He is the detective chief inspector on the case, and PC Donna De Freitas' (see below) boss. As the Thursday Murder Club digs further into the cases, DCI Chris Hudson's frustration against the group begins to deepen. In the trailer, he can be seen yelling, 'police work is off-limits to anyone who isn't the police!' to the members. What else has Daniel Mays starred in? Prior to Thursday Murder Club he has starred in Line of Duty, Outcasts and Vera Drake. Who is Bogdan? He is a young man of Polish descent who supports the club in their key investigations. While not much is known about his role, his alliance with the group may serve them well in their time of need. What else has Henry Lloyd-Hughes starred in? He has previously starred in Unrelated, Weekender and Parade's End. Who is PC Donna De Freitas? She is a local police officer who joins forces with the Thursday Murder Club, as their insider who gives the team confidential information regarding their cold cases. It's likely that due to this, she'll be at odds with her boss DCI Chris Hudson and Ian Ventham. What else has Naomi Ackie starred in? Naomi is best known for starring in The End of the F***ing World, Blink Twice and Mickey 17.
