‘Stellar Blade' Crushes PlayStation PC Record With 183,000 Concurrents
Stellar Blade
SHIFT UP
Finally having broken free of PlayStation exclusivity, 2024 actioner Stellar Blade has absolutely dominated all other former PS exclusives that eventually headed to PC.
As we speak, now having launched in all regions, Stellar Blade appears to have peaked at 183,830 players on Steam. Great by any metric, but especially in the context of other PlayStation PC releases. This is double the previous single-player record-holder, the 77,000 of Ghost of Tsushima, and as we head to the weekend, who knows if it could eventually triple that. Here's a list of the other major PC releases from Sony:
Stellar Blade
SHIFTUP
The difference is that some of these are years later rather than just over a year like Stellar Blade, but there's just no question this is a stunning launch from SHIFTUP's game. Although on Sony's end, they do not own this IP, and the future of the franchise's partnership with PlayStation is nebulous. A sequel has been confirmed, likely for 2027, according to a recent SHIFTUP presentation.
The major exception to this PlayStation list is if we break out of single-player only games and include Helldivers 2, which dwarfs them all with its 458,709 peak. Even now, after a big recent update, it's still doing 100,000 players a night, and it has a bigger playerbase on PC than on PlayStation.
Stellar Blade announced 1 million sales in a month after release, and I imagine we may be in for some sales news shortly from this PC release, which is clearly going great. The game is unsurprisingly the #1 seller on Steam right now. A new content pack dropped with this port, but besides that, I have to believe that a recent free demo of the game convinced many to pick up the full copy.
As for me, I highly recommend the game. It was one of my favorites of 2024, and I sunk 50 hours into two playthroughs (NG+ is very well-handled in the game). Since I put it down, the game has added some gameplay updates, things like photo mode and what has to be approaching 100 new outfits by now (I'm not even sure that's an exaggeration). Above all else, it's just a really fun action game, and I'm looking forward to the sequel. Give it a try yourself if you didn't snag it on PlayStation.

PS5 First-Party Game Replaces Creative Director Ahead of Launch
is just a few months away from its planned release for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, it seems the studio is shaking things up as has named a new Creative Director for the cooperative first-person shooter. As pointed out by X, Julia Nardin, who was originally the Narrative Director for Marathon, is now the Creative Director for the upcoming shooter. According to her LinkedIn profile, she was given the new role in May 2025. Previously, Steven Cotton was the Creative Director of Marathon. It is currently unclear why Nardin shifted to the new role and what position Cotton now holds after the shift. Nardin has been with Bungie for nearly six years, where she has helped shape the narrative of multiple Destiny seasons. She was promoted to Narrative Director for Destiny: The Final Shape and Marathon. Previously, she was with ArenaNet, working on the popular MMORPG Guild Wars 2. Although the reasoning for the move is unknown, it has caused a bit of a stir for those anticipating Bungie's next release. In a recent Reddit thread about Nardin's new role, gamers have already assumed the worst is coming to PlayStation's next live service game. 'Yeah, changing the director a few months before release does not signify much confidence,' says one user. 'Hopefully after Concord, and the inevitable upcoming failure of Marathon and Fairgames, this signals a full-scale retreat from this kind of cynical cash grab live service horseshit,' says another user. PlayStation's live service effort hasn't quite gone there way. Although Helldivers 2 was a huge success, it was followed by Concord, one of the company's biggest flops in history. Sony has even cancelled some of these projects, including a God of War multiplayer game by Bluepoint Games. Marathon is slated to release on September 23 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Former Disney Child Star Jake Thomas Announces 'Surprising' Career Move
Millennials grew up with Disney Channel's popular TV show, Lizzie McGuire, from 2001 to 2004. Now, one of the series' stars is making a big move in his career. Jake Thomas, who played Lizzie's younger brother, Matt, is going from fans' television screens to their gaming consoles. He plays Marco Silva in a brand-new digital game, MindsEye. Describing it as a "massive action-adventure, highly cinematic game," to People, Thomas shared that it's like "you're playing a movie." His character is an "eccentric billionaire, who runs Silva Corp." The 35-year-old actor had an eye-opening experience working in the tech world. "Everything is digital, but it's me in the game, which is wild to me," Thomas said. "I got completely scanned into the game, and they've basically just made a digital version of me. They've aged me up just a little bit, but it's a digital version of me." He even got to do his own stunts "from the safety of a studio" and promised fans that "the story is just going to knock your socks off." After his time on Lizzie McGuire, Thomas took some time to explore other interests outside of his acting career. 'I don't think I ever really took a full step back from Hollywood,' he explained to E! News. 'I think there was a point in my life where I did decide that I was focusing on school, I was going to college, I was taking classes and just as many things as I possibly could. I think there was a time where I kind of just wanted to see what I could do, kind of on my own merit and not so much resting on my laurels of the credits that I've done in the past as a kid.'
