'Youth is capital and guarantee of India's bright future': PM Modi at Rozgar Mela
Addressing the appointees at the 16th edition of Rozgar Mela, Prime Minister Modi said, "Today, the world accepts that India has two immense powers - demography and democracy, that is, the largest youth population and the largest democracy. This strength of the youth is both the capital and the guarantee of a bright future for our India. Our government is working to convert this capital into a formula for prosperity."
Highlighting the outcomes from his recent visit to five nations, PM Modi said that the agreements signed bilaterally with these countries will give a major boost to the manufacturing and service sectors of the country, which will ultimately benefit the youth of the country.
"Two days ago, I returned after travelling to five countries. The echo of India's youth power was heard in every country. During this period, all the agreements that were made will benefit India's youth. India will benefit significantly in the coming days from the agreements made in various sectors, including defence, pharma, digital technology, energy, and rare earth minerals. India's manufacturing and service sectors will get a huge boost," he said.
Emphasising the changing landscape of jobs, the Prime Minister said that the Centre's policies have been reformed to meet the modern needs.
He stated, "With the changing times, in the 21st century, the nature of jobs is also changing. New sectors are emerging; hence, in this decade, India's focus is to prepare its youth for these new opportunities. Many important decisions have also been made for this. Modern policies have been framed keeping in view the modern needs. The ecosystem of startups, innovation and research that is being created is increasing the capability of the youth of the country."
"Today, when I see young people who want to start their own startup, my confidence also increases. I am happy that the youth of my country is moving ahead at a fast pace and with dignity," the PM added.
He also congratulated the youths who were given appointment letters at the 16th edition of Rozgar Mela. He further emphasised the principle of "National Service (Rashtriya Sewa)."
"Our campaign of giving permanent jobs to youths in the Central Government is continuing. We have our identity - 'Bina Parchi, Bina Kharchi'. Today, more than 51,000 youths have been given appointment letters. Through such Rozgar Mela, lakhs of youths have got permanent jobs in the Centre. These youths are playing an important role in nation-building. Even today, some of you have started your career... and many friends will give a new impetus to the industrial development of India. Your departments may be different, but the principle is the same. Whatever your department, work, or place is, there is only one principle - 'National Service'. 'Sutr ek, naagrik pratham'. You have got a very big platform for national service. I congratulate all the young people on such a great success and new journey of yours," PM Modi said.
Prime Minister Modi on Saturday distributed over 51,000 appointment letters to newly appointed youth in various government departments and organisations via video conferencing at the 16th edition of Rozgar Mela.
The new recruits, selected from across the country, will be joining the Ministry of Railways, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Department of Posts, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Department of Financial Services, the Ministry of Labour and Employment, among other departments and ministries.
The 16th edition of the employment drive is being conducted at 47 locations across India. The recruitments are taking place across Central Government Ministries and Departments.
Rozgar Mela is a step towards fulfilling the Prime Minister's commitment to accord the highest priority to employment generation. It will play a significant role in providing meaningful opportunities for the youth to empower themselves and participate in nation-building.
So far, more than 10 lakh appointment letters have been issued under the Rozgar Mela initiative across the country.

According to reports, the 300 Chinese engineers who were recalled by Beijing, were responsible designing the factory, handling the assembly line and training employees. The Indian government said it was monitoring the production capacity of Foxconn, one of the few companies part of the Narendra Modi government's PLI scheme. Its must be noted that China is a global manufacturing and industrial powerhouses, and most of the equipment required to assemble mobile phones comes from there. The Union government has launched the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme which is expected to attract gadget making moguls other than Apple, to establish their presence in the country. The nominations have been made to fill vacancies created by the retirement of earlier nominated members. New Delhi: Senior advocate Ujjwal Nikam, former foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, social worker Master and historian Meenakshi Jain were nominated by President Droupadi Murmu to the Rajya Sabha. The selection of Nikam was long due as he worked in high-profile cases such as the Gulshan Kumar murder, the Shakti Mill gang rape, the Marine Drive rape, the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, and the 26/11 terror attack. The special public prosecutor was routinely in the news during the trial of Akmal Kasab, the lone Pakistani terrorist arrested during the 2008 terror attack. He had later drawn condemnation after he revealed that Kasab had never demanded mutton biryani during his trial. Born in North Maharashtra's Jalgaon, he started practicing as a lawyer in 1979. His father was a judge but he shot to fame for the first time when he was appointed as special public prosecutor in the 1993 serial blasts case. Nikam's proximity with the BJP dispensation grew after the 26/11 case. The Narendra Modi government conferred the Padma Shri to him in 2016. Last year, the BJP dropped two-term sitting MP Poonam Mahajan from the high-profile Mumbai North Central seat and instead gave the poll ticket to Nikam. His electoral debut ended with a loss as Congress Varsha Gaikwad trounced him by a margin of 16,500-plus votes. PM Modi hailed the nominations made by the Rashtrapati Bhavan. A retired Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, Shringla had served as the foreign secretary between January 2020 and April 2022. He had navigated the Indian diplomatic landscape during the Covid pandemic. Shringla was recently part of India's outreach to the Islamic world after Operation Sindoor following the Pahalgam terror attack. As the Indian ambassador to the US, Shringla was credited with Modi's public event Howdy Modi in Houston and maintaining warm relationship with US President Donald Trump in his first term. He was later made the chief G20 coordinator for India's G20 Presidency in 2023 and went on to help the Modi government in organising the G20 Summit in New Delhi that year. In Shringla's biography 'Not An Accidental Rise,' author Dipmala Roka has mentioned how he managed administrative and diplomatic efforts to manage the supply chain of essentials, negotiating for the smooth supply chain of drugs and other essentials. The book further mentions that when the Modi government scrapped Article 370 of the Constitution in 2019, Shringla met 400 senators and traveled to 22 states in the US. His name had come up as a BJP candidate from Darjeeling in the last year's general elections, but the party stuck with the sitting MP Raju Bista. A former teacher and social worker of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Sadanand Master had unsuccessfully contested the 2016 and 2021 assembly poll as a BJP candidate. Currently, he is seving as the BJP state president of the Kerala unit. The Sangh veteran survived an attack by CPI(M) goons in 1994 but lost both his legs. Despite his state, he remained active in politics and the BJP presented his case to highlight the Left's brutality in Kerala. Pearl farming: How Jharkhand is training farmers to turn mussels into gold with 10x returns
Ranchi: Jharkhand is rapidly emerging as India's freshwater pearl farming hub, with the state government and Centre implementing comprehensive training programmes and infrastructure development to transform this niche sector into a major livelihood opportunity for rural youth and farmers. The transformation gained momentum when the Centre notified development of Hazaribagh as the first pearl farming cluster with Rs 22 crore investment under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) in collaboration with the Jharkhand government. The facility has already trained over 132 farmers from across the state in advanced pearl culture techniques, with these trained farmers now cascading their knowledge to others in their respective districts, creating a multiplier effect. "Training is the backbone of successful pearl farming. We are focusing on round pearl culture as it fetches more returns compared to designer pearls," said Budhan Singh Purty, a mechanical engineer from NIT Jamshedpur who runs the training centre and has become one of the state's few surgical experts in round pearl cultivation. Live Events The training programmes emphasise skilled surgical grafting techniques, use of specialised instruments, and careful post-surgical management -- critical factors that determine survival rates and quality of pearl production. This focus on technical expertise is crucial since culturing round pearls demands precision to ensure high survival rates and quality production. Recognising the sector's potential, St Xavier's College, Ranchi, has introduced certificate courses in pearl farming ranging from six months to one-and-a-half years, integrating academic research with practical field experience. "Pearl farming is going to be a rising sector in Jharkhand and provide job opportunities to youth. The knowledge of science along with field experience will help develop enterprising skills," Professor Ritesh Kumar Shukla told PTI. Compelling economics drive adoption The state's emergence as a pearl farming hub is driven by compelling economics -- round pearls can be cultivated in backyard settings using cement tanks, buckets, or fish tanks, and yield profits of more than ten times the investment. The cultivation can be done in small spaces, making it accessible to small farmers and youth seeking alternative livelihoods. The economics are straightforward: it costs Rs 35-50 to nurture one mussel for three years until it produces a pearl, which then sells for up to Rs 1,000, depending on quality. This means farmers can expect significant returns on relatively modest investments. Success story: From engineer to pearl entrepreneur Budhan Singh Purty's journey exemplifies the sector's potential. The 46-year-old engineer has scaled up from 5,000 mussels in 2014 to 1.7 lakh mussels currently. With an investment of Rs 6.5 lakh, he expects to earn Rs 32 lakh from his upcoming harvest. "I started pearl farming with 5,000 mussels in a pond in naxal-affected West Singhbhum. Now more farmers are encouraged to take up pearl farming, helping them come back to the mainstream," Purty said. Using his engineering background, Purty has developed indigenous surgical tools costing Rs 3,600 to manufacture, compared to imported alternatives that cost up to Rs 25,000. "As pearl farming expands in the state, there will be huge demand for surgical tools. There is scope to set up a unit to manufacture surgical tools," he said. Purty has established supply chains with TRIFED, Tata BigBasket, IndiaMART , and also supplies to Surat for export purposes, demonstrating the market potential for Jharkhand's pearl production. Government support and future plans State Fisheries Department Director H N Dwivedi emphasised the huge potential to promote natural pearl farming as a cottage industry in Jharkhand, providing employment to youth. "Currently, NABCONS (NABARD Consultancy Services) is conducting gap analysis and soon the action plan to develop Hazaribagh cluster will be ready," Dwivedi said. The state has also proposed setting up a brood bank of Vietnamese mussel species Hyriopsis Cumingii and sought funds from the Centre under PMMSY. The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) has reported that 1.02 lakh pearls were produced from Hazaribagh district alone, indicating the sector's growing scale. Science behind pearl production Mussels, bivalve molluscs found in both freshwater and marine environments, play a central role in freshwater pearl production as living hosts that secrete nacre to form pearls over a three-year period. The process requires careful management and monitoring to ensure optimal conditions for pearl formation. The focus on freshwater pearl cultivation in Jharkhand leverages the state's natural water resources while providing a sustainable livelihood option that can be scaled from small backyard operations to larger commercial ventures. As this sector continues to expand, Jharkhand is positioning itself not just as a production hub but as a centre of excellence for pearl farming training and technology development, potentially transforming the economic landscape for rural communities across the state.
