Mets Tabbed 'Best Landing Spot' In Trade For $8.7 Million Slugger

The New York Mets are one of the best teams in baseball this year, but they still need to make some upgrades to their roster.
While the first half was great in Queens, the Mets got crushed by the Cincinnati Reds to start the second half on Friday.
In the coming weeks, it should be expected that the Mets will be active on the trade market.
Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter recently suggested the Mets were the "best landing spot" in a trade for Baltimore Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins in the coming weeks.

TAMPA, FLORIDA - JULY 18: Cedric Mullins #31 of the Baltimore Orioles dives for a ball in the first inning during a game against the Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field on July 18, 2025 in Tampa, Florida. More"Mullins continues to be a solid source of power and speed, and he has a 101 OPS+ with 13 home runs, 41 RBI, and 13 steals in 312 plate appearances," Reuter wrote. "His defensive metrics (-16 DRS) are poor, which has undercut his offensive value, though he has been a quality defender in center field in the past.
"The Mets have given 273 plate appearances to Tyrone Taylor this season, and he is hitting .213/.267/.313 for a 68 OPS+, so finding an upgrade in the outfield should be a priority. Mullins would allow Jeff McNeil to shift back to second base, leaving Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio to split time at the hot corner."
Mullins seemed like quite an enticing trade option earlier in the season, but he hasn't been very impressive recently.
He has a slightly above-average bat, but it doesn't make up for his horrendous defense in the outfield. The veteran is on an expiring contract, so the Mets wouldn't be tied into much if they acquired him.
The only reason this trade would make sense is that the Mets could likely acquire him for very little prospect capital. Mullins likely wouldn't require a top-20 prospect in the Mets' system, so New York could part ways with one or two lower-level talents to take a shot on the struggling veteran.
