A beloved BBC drama that viewers have praised as "phenomenal" has now landed on Netflix for eager audiences to discover. The Ireland-set series Normal People, featuring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal, is currently available for binge-watching on the streaming platform.
The programme, adapted from Sally Rooney's 2018 novel of the same title, chronicles the tumultuous romantic journey of Marianne Sheridan (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Connell Waldron (Paul Mescal). The show captures the intense emotions of their complex relationship as they navigate the challenging transition into adulthood.
Originally broadcast in 2020 during the early days of the Covid pandemic, on BBC Three, the series became an instant sensation amongst audiences. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter

Without a subscription, viewers can still catch it on BBC iPlayer, whilst Disney+ subscribers also have access to the programme.
Normal People, helmed by directors Hettie Macdonald and Academy Award nominee Lenny Abrahamson, garnered widespread critical praise upon its debut and secured four nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards, reports the Daily Record.
The series boasts an outstanding 91 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. One reviewer commented: "The 12-episode limited series powerfully captures the angst and intensity of young love as the pair each navigates their respective struggles with friendships, trauma, and mental health.
"Expectations might be high, but no one needs to worry. If this really is the only BBC drama we get this year, at least it's a good one," another online critic chimed in.
Viewers also showered the show with praise. One five-star review read: "Deeply moving. Lives long in the memory after watching."
Applauding the lead actors, another viewer commented: "Daisy Edgar Jones and Paul Mescal are mesmerizing in this slow paced story.
"Their vulnerability is painful and beautiful to watch. Their chemistry is everything and this would have failed without them."
This sentiment was echoed by another fan who said: "Absolute perfection.
"Beautifully filmed with a great music score and pulled together by two extraordinary performances by Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones.
"You felt every moment with the characters and at the end you just want to go back and watch it all over again.
"Real, raw and vulnerable. This highly emotional show had me hooked from the beginning," another viewer expressed. However, not everyone was enamoured with the series.
One less favourable review read: "Likable leads but the story goes from over the top love to unrealistic breakups and back again. I had enough of it by episode 7."

While the romantic drama has stirred both critics and viewers alike, there's been speculation about a potential sequel. Both Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal hinted last year that a follow-up could be on the horizon, so stay tuned.

Cate Blanchett reveals how Squid Game cameo was kept secret and teases spin-off
Cate Blanchett has addressed how her hugely-secretive Squid Game guest appearance in the show's final episode came about and where it could go next. The South Korean Netflix phenomenon bowed out this summer after becoming the biggest show ever to hit the platform, detailing a dystopian death match that's now entered the popular vernacular, with a pink and green wardrobe that's Halloween-ready. Among the many surprises during the final season, at the top of the list was Blanchett, 56, appearing in the final scene as a Squid Game recruiter based in Los Angeles. In the scene, the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) is driving through the city when he looks down an alley and spots Blanchett's character, suited and booted, playing a game of ddakji with a homeless man. The set-up is identical to how Gong Yoo's salesman first recruited Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) on a subway platform at night, playing the same slap-centric version of the game. Blanchett has now said the offer to appear on the show 'came out of the blue' before she agrred to film the top-secret final scene. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video She told Variety: 'Because it's such a cult series and they were shooting in LA of all places, everyone was on a need-to-know basis.' The 56-year-old told the publication that she didn't even do a wardrobe fitting for the unnamed role, instead bringing her own suit to filming and learning 'very quickly' to play ddakji. 'I had to practice and practice,' she said. 'I knew there were four or five setups that they were going to do, and I knew what they needed from every shot, and then I was given the [script pages]. But it was one of the more mysterious jobs.' TV Editor Sabrina Barr shares her take… The final season, which Metro was able to watch in its entirety before the release, is darn near-perfect. Almost. While creator Hwang Dong-hyuk didn't initially have the three seasons mapped out, he concludes the tale of Player 456, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) in a seamless way that feels as though it was always meant to be a three-part story. As for why season three isn't a clear 10/10, the main qualm I have pertains to a group of characters who are so distracting they bring me back to real life with a sharp jolt – the VIPs. Their presence is jarring and feels unnecessary, even if the intention is to demonstrate who the game is being held for. But, the final moments of season three genuinely made me jaw drop in the best way possible. The chief takeaway from Blanchett's cameo, as well as the scene's reveal that an international version of the Game exists, was that Netflix appeared to be setting up a show spin-off. It's not a suggestion Blanchett denied in the interview. More Trending So could she be the star of a new English-language version of the show? Blanchett says she is 'wildly open to anything'. 'In a world that is so beautifully, magically created like that, for sure,' she said. 'They're amazing world-builders, and that series has been eaten alive. I don't think there's a corner of the globe that it hasn't touched in some way.' View More » Squid Game is available to stream on Netflix. Got a story? Strictly star Alex Kingston's heartbreak before finding love with TV presenter The Doctor Who actress has been announced as one of the stars taking part in Strictly Come Dancing 2025. Strictly Come Dancing contestant Alex Kingston endured a turbulent romantic history before discovering happiness with her current husband. The Doctor Who star, 62, has joined the upcoming series of the popular BBC dancing show as she gets ready to showcase her moves on the ballroom floor. She won over Doctor Who enthusiasts after securing the part of River Song, with her character featuring during David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi's tenures on the science fiction programme. Her television work has included appearances in American medical series ER, costume dramas The Fortunes and Misfortunes of Moll Flanders, Arrow and A Discovery of Witches. Then I discovered she's a trained ballet dancer. 'Hang on a minute! That's not fair!' So, I can't do it on a season when she is on it!" Beyond her screen work, Alex has experienced considerable romantic disappointment. She first met Oscar-nominated performer Ralph Fiennes at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1983. The pair married ten years later, though their relationship ended catastrophically when Ralph became involved with a woman 18 years his senior. Alex previously reflected: "We were like strangers – very fragile," reports the Mirror. "His mother was dying and somehow we thought the wedding was going to heal everything. But that was crazy, of course." Ralph Fiennes and Alex met in the 80s (Image: Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images) In 1995, Ralph starred in Hamlet at Hackney Empire opposite Francesca Annis-who played Gertrude, his character's mother. Despite the age gap, their affair led to him leaving Alex and confessing his love for Francesca. Ralph, aged 32 at the time, embarked on a romance with Francesca, then 50. Francesca, who has three kids with photographer Patrick Wiseman, reportedly left him for the actor. Alex revealed the depth of her emotional struggle post-divorce to the Daily Mail, saying: "I was feeling worthless, that I would never find anyone else as good as my husband, which is ridiculous, but I had so little self-esteem. "Divorce is awful but it is also something I don't regret happening to me because it has shaped who I am now." Their relationship came to an end after an affair (Image: NY Daily News via Getty Images) Ralph and Francesca dated for 10 years between 1997 and 2006 and hit back at age gap concerns. "Of course I don't spend days agonising over the age difference. How can I? There is nothing I can do about it," she once said. "Ralph and I have been together ten years now so, whatever happens, we have had a very good, different relationship and an interesting time." Their relationship crumbled following explosive claims of infidelity when Romanian singer Corneila Crisan alleged she had conducted a two-year affair with Ralph. Alex has suffered her fair share of heartbreak (Image:for Pragnell) The following day, Ralph and Francesca announced their separation, stating: "Miss Annis confirms today that she and Ralph Fiennes are to separate." Ralph's affair had a devastating impact on Alex, who confessed to contemplating suicide. She later married German writer Florian Haertel and they welcomed a daughter, Salome, in 2001. However, the couple separated in 2009 and finalised their divorce four years later. Fortunately, Alex has found love again and is now married to TV presenter Jonathan Stamp, with the couple tying the knot in Italy in 2015.
