Bad news for Gautam Adani, this govt cancels two Adani projects at…, due to…
According to a government order (GO) issued by Chief Secretary K Vijayanand, AGEL had sought cancellation of the projects due to boundary disputes between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, which it referred to as 'local issues.' Why Two Adani Projects Were Cancelled?
'The government, after detailed examination of the proposal of AGEL in consultation with various stakeholders, has further issued orders for the cancellation of 1200 MW Kurukutti and 1000 MW Karrivalasa Pumped Hydro Storage Power Projects in Parvathipuram Manyam District allotted to AGEL,' Vijayanand said.
The AGEL received permission to set up these two projects during the previous YSRCP government on June 29, 2022.
The feasibility reports for these projects were prepared by the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (NREDCAP) by engaging TCE Ltd while AGEL took up the responsibility of survey and investigations and the preparation of detailed project report (DPR). Why Adani's Company Requested To Cancel Projects?
On September 12, 2024, AGEL requested the cancellation of these two projects due to a boundary dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh and requested to refund the facilitation charges paid by the company or adjust those funds towards the allotment fee due for 1000 MW Pedakota and 600 MW Raiwada PSP Projects.
The Pedaktoa and Raiwada projects were also allotted to AGEL.
Taking into consideration the difficulties in conducting survey and investigations due to border disputes, the vice chairman and managing director of NREDCAP, M Kamalakara Babu, has requested the government to consider the cancellation of the Kurukutti and Karrivalasa PSP projects as 'there is no fault on the part of the developer', AGEL, said Vijayanand.
Further, Babu also requested the approval to adjust fee paid for these projects after deducting the expenses incurred for conducting the survey and investigations by NREDCAP against facilitation fees and DPR expenses after adjusting the taxes payable, in respect of 1000 MW Pedakota PSP and 600 MW Raiwada PSP Projects.
The AGEL's cancellation proposal was placed before the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) meeting held on July 17 and it had agreed to cancel Kurukutti and Karrivalasa projects due to local issues as per the request of the developer, added Vijayanand.

Adani group announces $10 bn investment in Vietnam's growing economy
Ahmedabad-based Adani Group has pledged to invest up to $10 billion in Vietnam, marking one of its largest overseas commitments as it eyes strategic expansion across Southeast Asia. Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani conveyed the group's plans during a meeting with Vietnamese Communist Party General Secretary To Lam in Hanoi on Wednesday, outlining investment opportunities in infrastructure, energy, seaports, airports, logistics, and digital technology. While the group plans to invest a massive $100 billion in India over the next five years, internationally, it has already acquired Haifa Port in Israel in 2023 for $1.15 billion. It has also made significant investments in Australia, including a coal mine and a port project. The group is making its presence felt in Vietnam through a proposed port project in Da Nang. This latest pledge signals Adani's deeper push into the fast-growing Vietnamese economy and aligns with the country's priorities in renewable energy and digital transformation. The Vietnamese leadership welcomed the proposal and encouraged swift coordination between Adani and local authorities to fast-track project execution.

Assam govt., not Adani acquiring land near Guwahati airport: CM Himanta
The Assam government has initiated the process of acquiring around 500 bighas (around 166 acres) near Guwahati airport to construct a stadium for concerts and a convention centre, but a section of media outlets is wrongfully claiming that the Adani group is acquiring it, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said here. The government aims to secure land from genuine investors who want to sell their land, and residents will not be evicted, Mr. Sarma assured at a press conference. ''This move has been initiated by the state government to safeguard the land for the people of Assam, and we plan to take up three specific projects in the area,'' he said. These include a state-of-the-art stadium to promote Assam's concert economy, a convention centre on the lines of the Bharat Mandapam and an entertainment zone or amusement park on the lines of Universal Studios, but not on such a big scale, he added. ''All these projects will be fully planned and implemented by the State government and not by any industrial house'', he said. Appeal to media He urged the media not to mislead the public, as ''we have seen recently that certain media houses are claiming that the State government is handing over land to Adani or Ambani''. ''If these industrial houses come to Assam, we will welcome them with garlands and open arms, but they are not coming here for every project,'' he added. Flagship scheme for women The CM also announced that the third edition of the State's flagship Orunodoi scheme, catering to women beneficiaries, will be launched on September 17, coinciding with the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will cover 40 lakh beneficiaries in the state. Mr. Sarma said the Orunodoi scheme was first introduced in the 2019 budget, followed by Orunodoi 2.0 after the formation of the current government, which benefited 28 lakh people, and was closed this July. In Orunodoi 3.0, all beneficiaries have been linked with Aadhaar and will receive ₹1,250 each. As part of the rollout, elected panchayat representatives and district administration officials will visit each beneficiary in August to present them with a book and a letter from the Chief Minister stating that they have been selected for the scheme, he added. Mr. Sarma also announced a new initiative — Orunodoi Plus — which will be rolled out as a pilot project starting January 2026 for four months. Under this, eligible beneficiaries who purchase LPG cylinders will receive an additional ₹250 subsidy. "A form for LPG connection will also be provided with the letter, and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) will inform the State government when the beneficiary buys gas. The ₹250 will be directly credited to their bank account," he said. "We are launching the scheme initially for four months to test coordination among the agencies. If it works, we will scale it up," he added. Mr. Sarma also announced the launch of the second edition of the 'Nijut Moina' scheme, providing financial support to eligible girl students for higher studies so that they do not drop out of school and become victims of child marriage. The forms will be distributed to eligible girl students from August 6, he said. Residents of Assam studying in central universities like Tezpur and Assam University will also be covered under the scheme. The scheme was launched in October last year to provide financial assistance to girl students from higher secondary to post-graduate level in government and government-aided institutions, as most girls drop out of schools after class 10, and parents then marry them off.
