Amit Shah holds review meeting with Andhra CM Naidu on implementation of new criminal laws
New Delhi [India], May 23 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level review meeting with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Delhi on Friday to discuss the implementation of the three new criminal laws in the state.
Following the meeting, CM Naidu wrote in a post on X, 'Participated in a review meeting chaired by the Hon'ble Union Home Minister & Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, in Delhi today to discuss the implementation of the three new criminal laws.'

Naidu is on a two-day visit to Delhi, holding a series of meetings with Union Ministers to seek the Centre's support for the timely execution of several ongoing and proposed projects in Andhra Pradesh. He is also scheduled to attend the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting on May 24, which has drawn multiple Chief Ministers to the national capital.
Earlier in the day, Naidu met Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil and submitted a proposal for the Polavaram-Banakacherla Link Project. In a separate meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, he presented a strategic vision to position the State as a national hub for defence manufacturing and aerospace innovation.
The Chief Minister also discussed the Polavaram-Banakacherla project with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The project aims to divert surplus Godavari floodwater to drought-affected areas in Andhra Pradesh through a three-part water transfer system. It includes the Bollapalle reservoir, lift irrigation systems, and tunnels through the Nallamala hills.
'We discussed the crucial Polavaram-Banakacherla project aimed at taking Godavari waters to the drought-hit regions of Andhra Pradesh. Powered by Centre-State collaboration, this river-linking initiative will ensure water access and long-term development for our people,' Naidu said in another post on X.
In a meeting with Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Naidu sought the Centre's support to position Andhra Pradesh as a national space manufacturing and innovation hub.
'With our proximity to Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR), industrial readiness, and the guidance of Dr. S. Somanath as our Honorary Adviser, Andhra Pradesh is uniquely placed to boost India's space ambitions. We aim for world-class Space Cities, FDI in advanced technologies, and seamless public-private collaboration. AP is ready to power India's next leap in space,' Naidu said in a post on X.
Naidu also met Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Prahlad Joshi and sought rooftop solar capacity allocation for Andhra Pradesh under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
The three new criminal laws--Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam--were conceptualised with the vision of the Prime Minister to replace colonial-era laws that persisted post-independence and to reform the judicial system by shifting the focus from punishment to justice. Centre, state committed to make Uttarakhand national horticulture hub: Chouhan
Dehradun, The Centre and the Uttarakhand government are committed to making the state a national hub of horticulture, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Friday. "I am from a farmer family, I know the pain of farmers. That is why today I have come directly to the farm and sat on the cot, so that I can know whether the benefits of the government schemes are reaching the ground or not. Direct communication with the farmers ensures their strong participation," he said at the Chaupal. Talking to the media, he said the state government is doing excellent work in the field of agriculture under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The Centre, along with the Uttarakhand government, will ensure that the farmers here not only get the benefit of modern agricultural techniques, but also get markets for their products at the national and international level, he said. Further, Chouhan said farming will be made more profitable in future by giving special emphasis on natural farming, technological innovation and water conservation.

Chilling video shows high-speed bike crash that killed Indian MBBS student in Vietnam
A shocking CCTV footage has surfaced showing the moment a speeding motorcycle, driven by a 21-year-old Indian student in Vietnam, crashed into a wall, resulting in his death. Arshid Ashrith, a third-year MBBS student from Telangana, was riding at high speed when he lost control and collided with a wall, along with his friend who was riding pillion. The freak accident occurred in Can Tho city and was captured by a surveillance camera. The footage shows slow-moving traffic in a quiet neighbourhood when, suddenly, a loud, fast-moving motorcycle suddenly zooms into frame from the opposite direction. To avoid colliding with another biker, Ashrith swerved to the left, causing the bike to mount the footpath before slamming into the wall of a nearby house. The impact was violent, the bike flipped twice in the air before landing several feet away as a mangled heap. Both riders were flung off on impact. While Ashrith died in the crash, his friend sustained serious injuries. Arshid Ashrith's parents are from Telangana's Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district and work as cloth merchants. The news of their son's death has left the family heartbroken. According to NDTV, MLA Dr P Harish Babu visited Ashrith's residence to offer condolences to the grieving family. During the visit, he also spoke with Union Minister G Kishan Reddy over the phone and urged him to assist in expediting the repatriation of Ashrith's body to India. Last month, two Indian students studying at Cleveland State University were killed in a car accident in Pennsylvania. 20-year-old Manav Patel and 23-year-old Saurav Prabhakar's car crashed into a tree and struck a bridge on May 10. In April, a 21-year-old Indian student named Harsimrat Kaur Randhawa was killed after she was struck by a stray bullet in Canada while she was waiting at a bus stop on her way to work.

Omar Abdullah NEW DELHI: Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Friday brought up the issue of the restoration of statehood to the Union territory, at the flagging-off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the Vande Bharat Express between Srinagar and the pilgrim town of Katra. "If you see, by the blessings of Mata (Vaishno Devi), lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha has got a promotion and I had a demotion. I was chief minister of a state and now I of the Union territory.
