
Sebokeng SAPS conduct school search operation
SEBOKENG.-The Sebokeng Police recently collaborated with Sector Managers, Community Policing Forum, Youth Crime Prevention Desk, Gauteng Traffic Wardens and Siyabangena Patrollers to conduct a school search operation at Sizanani Secondary School in Zone 13 Sebokeng.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane said that the aim of this operations was to address the learners about, substance abuse, possession of dangerous weapons, gangsterism, bullying, sexual offenses and other crimes that may affect learners.
'The operations will be conducted weekly at random schools in order to make schools safer and crime free. Some learners tend to recruit others to be gang members or introduce them to illegal substances, therefore schools are no longer treated as a place of learning. The Station Commander Brigadier Thembekile Kubone would like to encourage parents to assist the police in anyway possible, and further plead that if parents notice any unusual behavior in their children to contact Sebokeng SAPS Social Crime Prevention for further assistance.'
Meanwhile the police urge the community members to participate in various structures of community patrols and to further call Sebokeng SAPS on 082 498 9563, 112, 10111, 08600 10111 or alternatively via MySAPS should there be any information.

R60k reward offer for third suspect in murder of IFP deputy chief whip
Gauteng police are offering a R60,000 reward for anyone who can provide information that can lead to the arrest of the remaining suspect in the murder of IFP MP and deputy chief whip Khethamabala Sithole. They are searching for Zamani Ngila Ximba for the shooting of Sithole and the attempted murder of two other party members at Buyafuthi Hostel in Katlehong in Gauteng on May 31. Former mayor of Stellenbosch Nyaniso Jindela shot dead
Jindela was shot dead on Monday night. Nyaniso Jindela, the former mayor of Stellenbosch in the Western Cape, has been shot and killed. It is understood that Jindela was shot dead on Monday evening. Shooting Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg told The Citizen on Tuesday that police are investigating the shooting. 'Stellenbosch police registered a murder case for investigation following a shooting incident on Monday evening, 9 June 2025, at about 20:00, in Vineyard Street, Kayamandi, in which a 59-year-old man was shot and fatally wounded. 'Police members attended to the crime scene, where they found the victim with a gunshot wound to his throat. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation. The suspects are yet to be arrested,' Twigg said. Twigg has urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySaps anonymously. 'Mr Jindela was a former councillor who served the community with distinction, including in the role of deputy mayor. The incident is currently under investigation by the South African Police Service (Saps) and the municipality will fully support Saps by providing any information they may require. 'We extend our deepest condolences to Mr Jindela's family and loved ones during this horrific time,' the municipality said. Arrest Jindela, his wife Unathi and three others were arrested in 2021 in connection with the murder of 56-year-old Cameron Mcako, a former Stellenbosch deputy mayor. Mcako was shot outside his Kayamandi tavern on 1 November 2019, in what the police believed was a politically motivated murder. The accused face charges of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, illegal possession of a firearm and the unlawful possession of ammunition. Community rallies to find missing 16-year-old Chanelle Plaatjies
Chanelle Plaatjies Image: Facebook Paarl East community activists and the family of missing 16-year-old Chanelle Plaatjies combed dense bush behind Allandale Prison on Monday night, hoping to find her or evidence of what may have happened to her. Plaatjies was reported missing by her mother on May 28, police spokesperson FC van Wyk told the Cape Argus. Police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi last night confirmed that a body had been found. "We can confirm that forensic experts responded to information earlier today (Monday), which led to the recovery of a body of a victim near a local dam in Paarl policing precinct. "The body is yet to be identified. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. "Paarl police registered a murder for further investigation. The suspects are yet to be arrested.
