Mumbai Coastal Road to remain open 24 hours from Aug 15; CM Fadnavis warns against turning the stretch into a racetrack
Mumbai: From Friday, the Mumbai Coastal Road will be open round the clock, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Thursday, alongside his deputies Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, during the virtual inauguration of the road's promenade, cycle track, and pedestrian subways. The road, so far operational from 7am to midnight, will now be accessible 24 hours. At the event, Fadnavis issued a strong caution to motorists — especially young drivers — against using the high-speed stretch for reckless stunts. "We've observed some motorists trying to show off their driving skills on the coastal road. This not only puts their own lives at risk but also endangers others. The entire stretch is under CCTV surveillance and if anyone indulges in dangerous driving, a notice will be sent and police will visit your home," he warned. I welcome the decision to keep the coastal road operational 24x7, but fear it could now increase noise pollution as many drivers seem to enjoy the thrill of speeding, especially in high-end loud sports cars. While the speeding may be happening in the day too, it probably goes unnoticed as many residents are either at work or other noises drown out the traffic sounds. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like What Will Happen to Your Body If You Start Eating 3 Eggs Every Day? "Special care has been taken to ensure the promenade is fully accessible to persons with disabilities," he added. Fadnavis acknowledged the inconvenience faced by walkers on Marine Drive and Worli during construction, but said the finished project would more than make up for it. To mark the inauguration, BMC allowed a few cyclists to make use of the cycling track on Thursday. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
