Watch: 12 injured in early morning bus, taxi collision
Garrith Jamieson of ALS Paramedics reported that emergency services found total carnage after a bus and a fully laden taxi had collided.

'Paramedics quickly set up a triage system and immediately called for more ambulances as well as Advanced Life Support Paramedics to assist with the multiple casualty scene,' said Jamieson.
The injured passengers sustained injuries ranging from moderate to severe.
'They were stabilised before being transported to various Durban hospitals.
'At this stage the events leading up to the accident are unknown, however the police were on the scene and will be investigating further,' he added.

Limpopo police confirm inquest after US millionaire killed by buffalo
An inquest has been opened into the death of Asher Watkins during a hunting safari on Sunday. This was confirmed to Caxton Network News by Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the spokesperson for the Limpopo police. Hans Vermaak of Coenraad Vermaak Safaris (CVS) said in a statement earlier that Watkins was killed in an 'unprovoked attack by an unwounded' Cape buffalo that he was tracking. He said they are co-operating with 'relevant authorities to ensure all procedures are followed'. Asher, in his 50s, was a millionaire from Dallas, Texas, who reportedly believed in hunting as a powerful conservation tool. He was a managing partner at Watkins Ranch Group – a real estate marketing firm dedicated to the sale of ranches, land and recreational properties. 'We can confirm that SAPS Makhado are investigating an inquest following the untimely death… The incident happened on Sunday [around] 13:00 on [a] farm along [the] N1 to Musina,' Ledwaba said. Ledwaba said that the security personnel at the farm – along the N1 to Musina – took police officers to the scene. 'They were shown a lifeless body of a man already certified dead inside an ambulance. [The] deceased [had] injuries on the stomach and the side of the ribs.' Vermaak's statement said: 'Asher was fatally injured in a sudden and unprovoked attack by an unwounded buffalo he was tracking, together with one of our professional hunters and one of our trackers.' Ledwaba said the buffalo was found lying dead nearby, with a bullet wound. 'Police investigations are continuing,' he concluded. Caxton Network News contacted CVS to ask if the buffalo was shot after Watkins' death, but was told the company would not make any statements other than what was said in the initial statement. CVS reiterated that the buffalo was not wounded when it was being tracked by the hunting party. 'While we understand the media and public's interest in this matter, we trust that you will appreciate that our priority at this time is with the family of the deceased and all individuals directly affected by this tragic event.' CVS said it does not intend to publicly share any specific details regarding the event. 'This decision has been made out of respect for the family's privacy and in recognition of the sensitive and traumatic nature of the situation. In our view, sharing further specifics would not serve to add any value and may only contribute to further distress for those directly involved.' Westonaria primary school under fire over corporal punishment allegations
A parent has come forward with disturbing claims that her three children were subjected to corporal punishment at Laerskool Venterpos Primary in Westonaria – including being beaten with a cricket bat and PVC pipes – prompting the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) to launch a formal investigation. Randfontein Herald reports that according to the parent, her son returned home at around 09:00 one morning, having walked home from school after he was beaten on the hands with a cricket bat. He told her his fingers were broken. Mother claims she was threatened by principal Shocked by this, she immediately returned to the school and informed the principal that she intended to open a case. The parent alleges she was then thrown out of the school and further claims the principal threatened to expel her two other children, who are still enrolled there. 'As a parent, I am not allowed to hit my children, so who gives a teacher the right to do so?' she questioned. Repeated incidents despite previous complaint The parent stated this was not the first incident. When she first became aware of corporal punishment at the school, she approached the principal, who reportedly called in five teachers. The parent said all five admitted to the punishment and promised to stop – but the abuse allegedly continued. Investigation is under way In response to these allegations, GDE spokesperson Steve Mabona confirmed that an investigation into the alleged use of corporal punishment is currently underway. 'We take the safety of all our learners very seriously, and as such, necessary disciplinary action will be taken accordingly, pending the outcome of the investigations. 'We condemn any form of assault on learners in schools, as corporal punishment is outlawed by the Constitution and the South African Schools Act [84 of 1996].' Support team dispatched to school Mabona explained that such cases are referred to the department's labour relations unit for thorough investigation, counselling and consequence management. 'Furthermore, we appeal to our educators to refrain from all types of misconduct and focus on learning and teaching. Educators should lead by example to ensure that learners mirror their conduct in creating a safe school environment, conducive to effective learning and teaching.' The department has also dispatched its psycho-social support team to the school to provide the necessary support. Limpopo pig farm murders: Charges withdrawn as accused turns state witness
The state has officially withdrawn charges against Rudolf de Wet, the second accused in the gruesome Onverwacht pig farm double murder case, after he was confirmed as a state witness. According to Polokwane Review, De Wet appeared in the Limpopo High Court this morning following his request earlier this week to turn state witness in exchange for immunity from prosecution. The former farm supervisor worked under Zachariah Olivier, the first accused in the case. De Wet's co-operation comes as the court prepares for the trial, now set to run from October 6 to 17. Olivier, along with former employee William Musora, a Zimbabwean national, still faces charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and defeating the ends of justice. Musora also faces an additional charge of illegal immigration. The case stems from the murders of Lucodia Ndlovu and Maria Makgatho, who were reportedly shot after entering the Onverwacht farm outside Polokwane in search of expired food in August 2024. The women's bodies were allegedly disposed of by feeding them to pigs. Ndlovu's partner was also shot but survived the attack. The state must still prove its allegations in court, but De Wet's testimony is expected to be a key component in the case against Olivier and Musora.
