SANDAKAN: arti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) acting president Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam has urged members to strengthen cooperation with allies as preparations intensify for the upcoming 17th State Election. He reminded members to remain cautious about unverified information, particularly reports that could affect unity among PBS, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star), and Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat). The call was made when Joachim officiated the joint annual general meeting of PBS Lamag, Sukau, and Sekong divisions at the Sandakan Community Hall. He also expressed appreciation for the organisers and divisional leaders whose commitment ensured the success of the gathering. On broader cooperation, Joachim reaffirmed that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) will continue working with Pakatan Harapan (PH), reflecting the importance of the coalition's support since 2023 in sustaining political stability in the state. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Three-point plan for Karamunting

Published on: Monday, August 18, 2025 Published on: Mon, Aug 18, 2025 By: Winnie Kasmir Text Size: Hajiji and George (centre) witnessing the handover of land by Walter (left) to Alan. SANDAKAN: The District Municipal Council (MPS) announced three immediate initiatives to improve services in Kampung Karamunting Baharu following the long-awaited gazettement of the water village. Its President Walter Kenson said the measures include the setting up of a Special Coordination Desk with the Karamunting Assemblyman, Land and Survey Department (JTU) and related agencies to resolve boundary and utility issues and deliver official updates to residents. The second initiative is a series of 'Quick Win' municipal services covering waste collection, drain maintenance, street lighting and basic village signboards. 'The third is a Community Technical Service Clinic to assist residents with house numbering, minor plans, structural safety and small business licensing,' he said. Walter made the announcement after formally handing over the land site to the State Government through JTU Deputy Director Chua Ming Ling @ Alan, witnessed by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. The ceremony marked the official transition of Kampung Karamunting Baharu from local authority administration to gazetted village status. 'For MPS, this gazettement ensures residents have clarity of settlement status, while the land at Jalan Cecily can be used for large-scale public facilities to benefit more people,' Walter said, adding that Jalan Cecily was a more strategic site due to better access, utilities and development potential. He thanked the Chief Minister, Karamunting Assemblyman, JTU, Sandakan Land Revenue Office, MPS task force, as well as the village head, JKKK, residents and SK Karamunting community for their support in realising the gazettement. More than 6,000 residents of Kampung Karamunting Baharu had been waiting for over five decades for their water settlement to be formally recognised. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? GRS will use own logo

Published on: Monday, August 18, 2025 Published on: Mon, Aug 18, 2025 By: Amir Anuar Text Size: Nizam said the matter had never arisen as GRS has remained firm in its original position, emphasising that Hajiji had never made any statement or suggestion to that effect. TAWAU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has reaffirmed its decision to use its own component party logo as the election symbol and identity for its candidates, and has no intention of 'borrowing' another component party's logo. Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Information Chief Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said the decision was consistent with the stance of GRS Chairman who is also Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. 'There is no proposal to use another component party's logo,' he said when asked if GRS was considering using Pakatan Harapan's (PH) logo in the upcoming 17th State Election (PRN). Nizam, who is also Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, said the matter had never arisen as GRS has remained firm in its original position, emphasising that Hajiji had never made any statement or suggestion to that effect. He said GRS leadership has from the start been consistent in defending and strengthening the existing Unity Government, which involves cooperation between GRS and PH. 'GRS members, especially in Gagasan, should not be concerned or confused by such rumours, as all our candidates will use the GRS logo as the official symbol in the upcoming PRN,' he said. On related matters, the Apas assemblyman said the GRS-PH combination had proven effective, with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan 1.0 (2021-2025) achieving 94 per cent of its targets through 467 initiatives, according to the SMJ Way Forward Initiative Report. Based on existing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), he expressed confidence the State Government was on the right track to restore Sabah's former glory. 'Achievements in economic development and public welfare under SMJ 2.0 would continue if given another mandate,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Incumbent seats stay with party

Published on: Monday, August 18, 2025 Published on: Mon, Aug 18, 2025 By: Hayati Dzulkifli Text Size: 'Incumbent seats means you don't discuss about the two seats (Inanam and Api-Api). Whether the present YBs (assemblyman, assemblywoman) are going to be the next candidate is a different issue,' said the Api Api Assemblywoman. Kota Kinabalu: Incumbent seats of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in Sabah as well as in Pakatan Harapan (PH) will not be included in negotiation over seats for the coming 17th State Election (PRN17). PH and PKR Sabah advisor Datuk Seri Christina Liew said two State seats of Api-Api and Inanam under PKR Sabah would continue to be contested by the party. She said the same principle applies for the other component parties (Upko, DAP and Amanah) in PH. She said the negotiations would be handled by PKR Sabah head cum State Leadership Council (MPN) Sabah Chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud. '(The negotiation on seats) it is not finalised, but I was informed it is very near to it. We only focus to get ready,' said the state Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister. 'Incumbent seats means you don't discuss about the two seats (Inanam and Api-Api). Whether the present YBs (assemblyman, assemblywoman) are going to be the next candidate is a different issue,' said the Api Api Assemblywoman. However, she said she is ready to defend the Api-Api State seat if asked to do so. 'I know my area very well and there are still a lot of things we have yet to do. I have been the YB (elected people rep for Api-Api) for three terms – one term when I was the opposition and two terms in government. 'If I'm not the candidate, I shall give my best support,' she said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
