Billy Joel feels 'good' after brain condition diagnosis
It comes after the 76-year-old singer cancelled all his scheduled concerts, including a show in Edinburgh and Liverpool, after announcing that he was diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH).
The statement shared on Joel's Instagram account in May also revealed that the condition appeared to have been exacerbated by recent performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision and balance.
Speaking to Bill Maher on his Club Random Podcast, the veteran singer shared an update on his health, saying that he was feeling "good".
He said: "It's not fixed, it's still being worked on.
"I feel fine, my balance sucks. It's like being on a boat."
According to the NHS website, NPH is an uncommon and poorly understood condition that often affects people over the age of 60 and can be difficult to diagnose as its symptoms include mobility problems and dementia, which are associated with more common conditions such as Alzheimer's disease.
He told Maher that he does not know what caused the condition and that, despite not drinking anymore, he thought it might have been caused by that.
"They keep referring to what I have as a brain disorder, so it sounds a lot worse than what I am feeling," he added.
The New York-born singer is best known for songs including Uptown Girl, Tell Her About It and An Innocent Man and has achieved five UK top 10 singles and eight UK top 10 albums.
Since beginning his career in the mid-1960s, Joel has won five Grammy Awards and been nominated for 23, and was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame by one of his heroes, Ray Charles, in 1999.

Trump demands Beyonce be prosecuted over fake payment claims
U.S. President Donald Trump has called for Beyonce to be prosecuted over false claims that she was paid to endorse Kamala Harris in 2024. In posts on his social media, Trump claimed that Beyonce was paid $11 million (9.4 million) for endorsing Harris at a campaign event in Houston in October 2024. Trump also took aim at talk show host Oprah Winfrey and civil rights activist Al Sharpton, claiming that the Harris campaign broke the law by paying for celebrity endorsements and demanding all those involved be prosecuted. 'Can you imagine what would happen if politicians started paying for people to endorse them,' Trump wrote on Truth Social. 'All hell would break out! Kamala, and all of those that received Endorsement money, BROKE THE LAW. They should all be prosecuted!' However, there is no evidence to support the claim that Beyonce herself received any payment related to the Harris campaign. There is also no U.S. law barring a campaign from paying for endorsements, provided that expenditures are publicly disclosed. According to federal campaign spending records, the Harris campaign did pay $165,000 (141,000) to Parkwood Entertainment, Beyonce's production company, for a campaign event production expense. A Harris campaign spokesperson told Deadline in 2024 that while they were required by law to cover costs connected to celebrity appearances, they did not pay the celebrities for their endorsements. Despite thorough investigation by media sources and fact-checkers, no evidence has ever been produced to support the claim of an eight-figure endorsement payment. In a February interview with right-wing TV personality Mark Levin, Trump vaguely described his source on the number, saying, 'Somebody just showed me something. They gave her $11 million… [for] an endorsement, I guess, because she didn't sing.' Claims that Beyonce was paid $10 million for her speech at the Houston rally circulated on social media shortly after the event, which were also disproven by fact-checkers. Tina Knowles, Beyonce's mother, took to Instagram in November to call the allegation a 'lie.' 'When In Fact: Beyonce did not receive a penny for speaking at a Presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harriss (sic) Rally in Houston,' Knowles wrote. Beyonce's publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, told fact-checking website PolitiFact in November that the endorsement payment claim 'is beyond ridiculous.' Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan lands major new TV role
Nicola Coughlan is set to lead the next instalment of Channel 4's critically acclaimed anthology series I Am, the broadcaster announced today. The Galway-born actor, best known for her roles in Derry Girls and Bridgerton , will star in I Am Helen , a two-part story created in collaboration with series creator Dominic Savage. First broadcast in 2019, the BAFTA-winning series is known for its standalone episodes that explore women's experiences through character-driven, improvised storytelling. Each episode is co-developed by Savage alongside its lead actor. Past participants have included Kate Winslet, Letitia Wright, Lesley Manville and Samantha Morton. 'It's an absolute honour to be part of telling the next I Am story alongside Dominic Savage – a singular talent and a storyteller deeply committed to exploring the breadth of the female experience,' said Coughlan. 'To follow in the footsteps of the brilliant women who've collaborated with him on this series feels truly surreal, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be embarking on this journey.' She will appear opposite English actor Joe Cole, known for starring alongside Cillian Murphy in Peaky Blinders and for his roles in Gangs of London and A Prayer Before Dawn . At the time of writing, Channel 4 has yet to confirm a broadcast date for I Am Helen .
