Former Tiger, Clemson pro Logan Davidson makes his MLB Debut for the Oakland Athletics
Former Clemson standout Logan Davidson made his MLB debut Saturday night, entering as a pinch-runner for the Oakland Athletics against the Philadelphia Phillies. With the appearance, Davidson became the 73rd former Tiger to play in the big leagues—and the sixth to do so in 2025.
The Charlotte native also etched his name into program history alongside his father, Mark Davidson, a former big leaguer who spent six seasons with the Twins and Astros from 1986 to 1991. The Davidsons are now the first father-son duo from Clemson to reach Major League Baseball.
During his three years at Clemson from 2017 to 2019, Davidson started all 187 games at shortstop and established himself as one of the program's top players in recent memory. A switch-hitter and two-time All-ACC performer, he batted .290 with 42 home runs, 45 doubles, 142 RBIs, 171 runs scored and 37 stolen bases. He remains the only Tiger to record double-digit home runs and steals in three different seasons.
In 2019, Davidson served as team co-captain and earned first-team Academic All-America honors while being named ACC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He posted a .291 average with 15 home runs, 55 RBIs and 17 steals that season. A year earlier, he was a third-team All-American after hitting .292 with 15 homers and 46 RBIs. He was also recognized as a first-team freshman All-American in 2017.
A standout in the classroom, Davidson completed his management degree in just six semesters, graduating in May 2019 with a 3.99 GPA. He earned all As except for one B during his academic career. The Athletics selected him 29th overall in the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft.
Davidson spent five seasons in Oakland's system before his call-up, including a strong showing in Triple-A Las Vegas in 2025, where he hit .303 with a .452 on-base percentage, two homers and 22 RBIs in 41 games. Over 524 minor league games, he compiled a .259 average with 52 homers, 251 RBIs and 33 steals.
With Davidson's debut, Clemson continued its streak of producing big-league talent—every Tiger team from 1974 through 2021 featured at least one future MLB player.
