Mark Chapman to present Saturday's Match Of The Day
The PA news agency understands that the 51-year-old - part of a three-person presenting line-up alongside Kelly Cates and Gabby Logan - who will work on rotation this English football season.
PA understands Chapman will be the first of the trio to host the flagship Saturday night show.
It is understood Cates will host a programme on Wednesday consisting of Uefa Super Cup highlights and a look-ahead to the new English Premier League season, which begins on Friday night, while Logan will host Match Of The Day 's Sunday night programme this week.
The BBC announced on January 15 that Cates, Chapman and Logan would become the presenting team following weeks of speculation about who would take over from Lineker after he said last year that he was stepping down.
The 64-year-old had long intended the final Match Of The Day of last season, on May 26, would be the last time he presented the highlights programme, but was planning to stay on to front the BBC's live coverage of the FA Cup and 2026 World Cup.
However, earlier in the month however he announced he was bringing forward his departure following a social media row in which he shared a post about Zionism featuring a depiction of a rat, historically used as an antisemitic trope.
Lineker, the BBC's highest-paid presenter and Match Of The Day host since 1999, apologised unreservedly for the post but said it was "best for all concerned" if he left completely.
The Leicester-born former England football captain also runs Goalhanger Podcasts which produces podcasts such as The Rest Is Football, The Rest Is History, The Rest Is Politics, and The Rest Is Entertainment.
Cates, 49, the daughter of former Liverpool and Scotland forward and manager Kenny Dalglish, has been a presenter with Sky Sports since rejoining the broadcaster in 2016, fronting coverage of the Premier League. She is also continuing her role with Sky Sports.
Chapman has been broadcasting for more than 25 years and has been a regular presenter of the BBC's Sunday night Match Of The Day programme.
Former gymnast Logan - whose father is former Leeds United and Wales footballer Terry Yorath - became one of the first female sports anchors to break into terrestrial television and has covered several Olympic Games, the World Cup and the Commonwealth Games during her time at the BBC.
The 52-year-old has presented Match Of The Day in Lineker's absence on many occasions, and was also a key part of the BBC's coverage of the Women's Euros in 2022 and last month.
Match Of The Day will return on BBC One at 10.20pm on Saturday August 16.

Mark English smashes his Irish 800m record in Budapest
In a season of breakthroughs, Mark English took another big step forward on Tuesday evening, the 32-year-old smashing his Irish record when finishing second over 800m in 1:43.37 at the Gyulai István Memorial, a Continental Tour Gold meeting, in Budapest. That brought him home behind Kenya's Laban Kipkorir Chepkwony (1:42.96), with France's Yanis Meziane third in 1:43.71. It's the third time English has broken his national 800m record this season, having clocked 1:44.34 in Poland in May and then 1:43.92 in Hengelo, the Netherlands, in June. English had been in fine form since then, powering to his 10th national outdoor title over 800m earlier this month ahead of Cian McPhillips. 'Hopefully I'll have another race or two before the World Championships and I can't wait for that because I'm in great shape at the minute,' he said after that race. 'I'd like to be able to show it with a time.' English bided his time midway through the final lap and unleashed his typically strong finish to take the runner-up spot, his time moving him joint-16th on the world list for 2025 and carving over half a second off his Irish record, marking the third time this season that he has run under 1:44. English had a number of world-class operators behind him, with Spain's Mariano Garcia – a former world indoor and European champion – fourth in 1:43.84, while reigning European Indoor champion Sam Chapple was fifth in 1:43.96 and 2023 world bronze medallist Ben Pattison came home seventh in 1:44.14. Jack Grealish joins Everton on season-long loan from Manchester City
Everton have completed the signing of England winger Jack Grealish on a season-long loan from Manchester City. The 29-year-old has been looking for an exit from Etihad Stadium after making only seven Premier League starts for Pep Guardiola's side last season, seeking regular football ahead of next summer's World Cup. 'I'm over the moon to have signed for Everton – it's massive for me, honestly,' Grealish said. 'This is a great club, with great fans.
