It has taken a little longer than originally planned but trainer Glen Milligan finally has Golden Honour up to his ideal trip.
The five-year-old has won three races between 1450m and 1600m and Milligan wanted to get him out to those distances again after the gelding's fast-closing third behind Typhoon Neta when resuming over 1100m at Port Macquarie back in February.
'Jon Grisedale rode him first-up and was rapt with him. He said this horse will knock up winning races when he gets out over further,' said Milligan.
'We just had a couple of hiccups along the way and haven't been able to step him up to this trip until now.'
Golden Honour's latest run was a seventh behind King Larry in a Benchmark 66 over 1200m here at Port Macquarie on April 11.
He drops back to a Benchmark 58 Handicap over 1500m this weekend with stable apprentice Teighan Worsnop's claim bringing him down to 59.5kg.
'He's going well without winning and working to the line nicely,' Milligan said.
'He goes up in weight again coming back to a (benchmark) 58 and he is looking for this trip now.
'He will need a little bit of luck from the alley. They jump and start turning after a furlong there.
'Hopefully they can slot in somewhere midfield and see if he's good enough to run over the top of them.'

While Milligan rates Golden Honour a good each-way chance, he feels Kermitisapet is his best hope for the day in the opening race.
The daughter of Kermadec ran a solid third on debut on a heavy track at Tuncurry last September before finishing down the order at Port Macquarie and going for spell.
She resumes in the Country Boosted Maiden Plate (1000m) where she opened at $26 with TAB fixed odds.
'I think she is great value. I thought she would be under $10,' he said.
'She has come back well and this a country only maiden.
'There are couple in there with nice trial form but that's different to race form.
'The only thing is she might get back a little bit but is she jumps and isn't too far off them, she can win.
'She's my best chance for the day.'
Milligan also has Saint Cayetano making his debut in the race but said he still has a bit to learn and will be better in time and over a mile.
Punch One Out and new stable recruit Chelsea both step out in the Super Maiden Handicap (1200m).
Punch One Out raced well in his first campaign with a second to Lightscameraaction over 1006m here at his third start while he also had two handy fourth placings.
'He's a horse that's got plenty of upside but mentally he's not there yet,' said Milligan.
'We were quite happy with him and his last couple of starts were good.
'The only thing that went against him, he got back at his last run and it helps if you can race on speed at Port Macquarie at present for some reason.
'He goes into this race without any trials under his belt but he has had a couple of jumpouts.
'He is doing everything right, just whether he is good enough to win first-up over 1200m.'
Chelsea, a $1m Easter Yearling in 2023, was bought by Milligan in late February for $18,000 after he had just two starts for Chris Waller.
'Mentally and physically, he's still six months away but he has improved every time I have galloped him,' he said.
'He's going to get out over a mile in time.'

Joe Pride taking on Stradbroke Handicap history with Private Eye

Trainer Joe Pride isn't concerned by historical trends as he readies Private Eye for a remarkable bid to win the Group 1 $3m Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday. With the withdrawal of Giga Kick, Pride's sprinter Private Eye has 57kg and will wear the No.1 saddlecloth when he goes first-up into Queensland's premier sprint. Private Eye is attempting to become the first horse this century to win the Stradbroke as topweight and without a lead-up run. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Crawl won the 2001 Stradbroke off a 56-day break between runs but Private Eye will go to Eagle Farm having not started since his fourth behind Robusto in The Ingham at Randwick on December 14, last year – a gap of 182 days. 'Records are made to be broken and I don't think first-up is what it used to be,'' Pride said. 'I've also given Private Eye four barrier trials, I'm very happy with him, and he won't be beaten on the score of fitness.'' Giga Kick, who won the 2022 The Everest beating Private Eye, had 58.5kg in the Stradbroke but after finishing only sixth in Joliestar's Kingsford Smith Cup last Saturday, owner Jonathan Munz confirmed the chestnut is out of Saturday's big race. Munz said although Giga Kick seems to have pulled up well the gelding will undergo a thorough veterinary examination and won't run in Stradbroke. Private Eye is attempting to become the first horse to have the No.1 saddlecloth and shoulder 57kg or more to win the Stradbroke since Rough Habit scored under 58.5kg in 1992. 'His trial last Friday at Rosehill was everything I wanted to see from him. He jumped and put himself on the speed,'' said Pride, who won the Stradbroke with Think About It two years ago. 'He wanted to be there and that's the best version of Private Eye. He ran second in a Stradbroke three years ago (behind Alligator Blood) and I feel he's ready to run super again on Saturday.'' Private Eye, already the winner of $11.9m prizemoney, is on the third line at $11 of early TAB fixed odds betting for the Stradbroke behind the Team Hayes-trained War Machine at $2.80. Meanwhile, Pride said he has decided to give In Flight a short break after her tough win in the Bob Charley AO Stakes at Royal Randwick last Saturday. 'In Flight came out of the race really well but I'm going to give her eight to 10 days off,'' Pride said. 'The plan then is to take her to Melbourne for the (Group 3 $200,000) Sir John Monash Stakes at Caulfield (July 12). 'She should get the wet track she likes down there at that time of year.''

AFL news 2025: Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera trade to Crows, false report, Taylor Walker

Don't miss out on the headlines from AFL. Followed categories will be added to My News. Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera's management has shot down a report suggesting the St Kilda star has put a line through joining Adelaide next season. The silky half back is weighing up a chance to go home to South Australia although the Saints remain confident of keeping the out-of-contract gun playmaker. It was reported on Channel 7's Agenda Setters on Monday night Wanganeen-Milera would only consider Port Adelaide - and not the Crows - over a racism incident involving former Adelaide captain Taylor Walker in 2021. Walker apologised and copped a six-match ban for making a deeply offensive comment toward North Adelaide player Robbie Young in 2021. But Wanganeen-Milera's manager Ben Williams from Players' Ink said his client had not ruled out Adelaide, and was still weighing up his future. 'Reports made in the media suggesting that Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera has ruled out joining the Adelaide Crows due to comments made by Taylor Walker in 2021 are false,' Williams told this masthead. 'Nasiah is currently considering his future and at this stage, no decisions have been made, and any speculation suggesting otherwise is inaccurate.' Wanganeen-Milera will field offers worth more than $1 million a year to stay at St Kilda or switch clubs. The Saints would target Miles Bergman from Port if he chose to move to the Power for next season.
